Much activities much improvement and so he will rebuild the country with thugs and hooligans. Much more criminals will hit our shores running from Africa, Asia, India, Iran, Syria, Venezuela and who knows where else!!! Dominica will soon me little Vegas. I wont take any chances if I’m approached by thugs. I went t a gas station in Portsmouth to buy gas and this man watched me like I slept with his girl. Watched me with a hateful eyes – I put myself on alert for any stupid move he may have attempted. But it went well for both of us – Cause he’d be dead and I’d be sitting in jail. There was a store in Roseau selling guns close to the old market – Think it was Useley Edwards that was the name of the store – And with all these guns which were available at this store; people were not killing one-another in Dominica as they do now.

These premises should invest in CCTV as a means of security, and maybe offer a small reward for information leading to an arrest. Someone must know who is carrying out these robberies.

All we are talking about is lack of jobs is the reason for those things. While i agree that is somewhat true please remember bankers are employed and steal our money, so please tell me is lack of unemployment.

Another thing america is the land of opportunities and there you will find all kinds of jobs. I am guessing that since there have so much job opportunites well there are no robberies. Well that is the mentality we have in this country, and we should look pass the petty politics. Irrespective of what party in power nothing will change.

It boils down to the people who commits the crimes character and there culture and we should avoid the blame game. Everybody should be held accountable for there actions and not other people

I can’t believe these silly arguments about whether or not the spate in crime is the government’s fault. Hello people….what is the responsibility of government? What do we pay taxes to them to do? Check any place that had a high crime rate that was subsequently reduced, it is ALWAYS due to gov’t actions. Whether this means increasing police, creating more jobs, holding families responsible…there is no ONE way to do it, but leadership has to come from the top.

Yes, crimes will ALWAYS be committed, but the government via law enforcement is supposed to lay out plans showing how they will curb it. Have we received an official report on the number of robberies, suicides, murders, rapes, child abuse that has taken place in 2015 vs. 2014? What are the professionals pointing to as an indicator of this uptick in lawlessness?

For once Dominicans, lets stop speculating and demand our “leaders” do their jobs, provide factual info, and concrete next steps!

You must say “All is well” so that you can receive Christmas gifts from your government, seeing that there is no election this Christmas, and therefore no bribes to take home. :) :-D

For as long as I can remember, this petrol station has always been robbed. Clearly, over the years it has changed hands the various companies has never seen it hit to 1) change the way petrol is served and upgrade to the self service system whereby the pumps can be controlled from inside without stepping out. 2) The physical security of the stations needs a serious review and fast. The criminals have clearly identified this particular business as a sort target because of the lack of physical security and will continue to do so.
Employers should be protecting their employees and not leave them at the mercy of these callous criminals. Profits seems to be put before the safety of employees.

This will continue to occur if proper physical security measures are not taken

You did not have the privilege to get a tertiary education because your parents could not afford. Imagine that your parents or you can’t get a loan at the bank so that u could further your education because they do have assets for assurities. U can’t even plant a garden. what mmust you do? I grew up hungry without money too, i teach myself how to fix Walkman and keyboards while i was in high school to pay for my recess and have spending $. I would get 3 Walkman fix 1, use the other two for parts to make another one sell it an so on.
If you don’t have a skill or know a trade and all you have is free time then find somebody that does the trade or have a good skill and work for them for free (not hard just to learn). You not working anyway so you might as well be doing an apprenticeship.

I don’t think English was one of the “Sick” subjects you left school with nuh.

Listen “Gangsta Purple” A positive young man leaving school even if he cannot find a job does NOT pick up a gun and a ski mask. That nature of pulling a gun on someone and firing is hardcore. All your “Ghetto youths” want to do is pull up on a block and smoke weed, all day … all night. I understand the country is hard, but to run up in a gas station at like 7:30 is not people that doing that cause the country hard.

Getting a loan to further education is a BAD IDEA. You have a weight on your shoulders before you even have a job. And there is no guarantee that you will get a job either. That is the thinking of 30 years ago that is still being perpetuated. If you have a trade or something that you do well that others will pay you for and you do good work, you will be hired. The problem in DA is that there are so many men (especially) that think they have a trade and can do it well, but all they do is make mess’ and want their MONEY. They don’t think about how much they cost the person that they were working for when they have to put out to have somene else come out and redo their work. Too many people do not do good work here. They don’t care about doing good quality workmanship, only about that they did ‘something’ and now they need to get paid for their time. Quit thinking up excuses as to why you think that it is right to steal from others. There is too much lazines.

Did you state, “sick” subjects? I think you meant “six”subjects. Even then it gives no one reason to steal what does not belong to them. In the eyes of the government it is a crime.. In the eyes of God, it is a sin. One earthly and spiritual but in reality, the same, deserving of punishment.

There are many jobs that these extremely lazy individuals won’t do. Ones that they can do without education (but why should anyone go to school and not get their subjects – too lazy to learn). You know how hard it is to get a gardener in Dominica? You know how hard it is to get an honest helper in the home? Too lazy to work and when they have job is still teef they teefing on the job. it’s called evil PURE EVIL. And GREED. And LAZINESS. Wanting things the easy way out, don’t care who get hurt in the process, and thinking people have no right for their hard earned material items, it should be yours. Well what must you do? Go find the jobs that you all are too lazy to do. No money to eat, but enough to spend on RUM and DRUGS. Uneducated comment but you have computer to write it on. Is it stolen?

Ever heard of setting a rat trap. Here is a solution. Put an armed guard or two at every retail location especially the ones that stay open late. Make sure that individuals are in an inconspicuous location. Make it look vulnerable. When I say armed I mean rapid fire lots of rounds. As soon as those robbers do thier thing ambush them on the way out and light those mfs to kingdom come. These rats will think twice about robbing and the population of robber rats will be reduced. No one will feel sorry. This station has the card Blanche to defend its property after two robberies. Enough is enough.

    • December 23, 2015

It is against the law to shoot a person while he is attempting to run away… Your suggestion is one of execution. Please remember how the law regards individuals acting as judge, jury and execution.

      • Shaka Zulu
        December 23, 2015

A man who uses a gun to commit robbery is considered armed and dangerous. You don’t stop a criminal with a gun with nothing else but a gun. Once you shooting security guard tells you they are not afraid to use. I agree no one should act as judge, jury and executioner so discretion will always be required. So when the opportunity presents itself, light them off.

Ok, so I realize that these armed robberies are increasing in frequency these days. However I have not heard any words from the leadership of this country condemning these actions in any way. Not just mentioning it on some talk show but calling a press conference and strongly speaking out against these armed robberies. The leader should also send a clear message to these criminals of the actions that he will take to make the streets of Dominica safe. From what I am seeing if this continues then the tourists will not want to come anymore, the foreign investors will not invest and the big plans my PM has for us through his Citizenship by Investment Program will suck salt.

The fact of the matter is their PARENTS have failed them not the government! A man becomes a man when he stops blaming other people for his situation and takes responsibility for his own actions. the same can e said of young women.

that ignorant culture of constantly blaming and pointing the finger at government is pure unadulterated foolishness. you’re making an excuse for people who are mentally lazy & backward, people that are easily swayed because they have no self direction.
that is an individual problem not a government problem. what the government should do is bring back hanging for murder, castration for rape, 10 years hard labour for robbery. Repeal gun laws for 10 years making illegal for any citizen without a house or apartment on their name to own one. the purpose of guns is to protect property, if you do not have property then you do not need a gun.

Criminals are criminals no matter where they are and what they do. Criminals have choices. Why do you think they rob and steal from people? Christians recognize Our Lord Jesus Christ as the Messiah, the King, Lord and Savior of the world. There is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
It may be time to turn around and do likewise and call Him by His Holy Name, giving due worship to Him. He is the Healer of all our woes. You may be hindering yourself, placing an obstacle in your way because you do not worship Him.
Furthermore, Our Lord did not promise us a bed of roses. Nowhere in the Holy Bible does it state that.
You are not alone Many people in the world are unemployed and they do not resort to robbery.
We are the people of the New Testament. Ask Our Almighty Father, God (not Jehovah) to help you, through His Blessed Son Our Lord Jesus Christ.. Pray fervently, be caring and helpful to all with no exception. Then see what God can do. One more thing, God will answer prayers in His time; not ours. He is more patient than we are. He asks for our patience and perseverance.

This time money was stolen so you all can’t say anything. As obvious as it may sound, a few sheets of plywood, red clinic stipend, and some cooking gas can only take you so far. You sound like you half retarded. Skeritt is fully aware that the island is filled with your kind that is why he will do what he wants and get away with it. JUST LIKE JOB FROM THE BIBLE. “Yet skeritt slay me yet will I trust him”. YOU FOOLS

So BWA Bande what your saying Is that it is better to sit around earn nothing and complain than to start working for 500 a month and work your way up? The 500 you would earn would be yours it would be honest. You said that I should not use the Hatians as an example because they are starting life over in a new country which is true but why should we Dominicans not be willing to put in the work to start our lives as adults. Because we are natives should we not work hard should we just receive free money. You said if things were better that we would be willing to work 2 or 3 jobs. In my opinion we would not that would only be another excuse to say how bad things are, and I doubt we would even want to. We can barely do one job well. So let’s keep the cycle going keep blaming whatever government is in power but never do anything to change our situation. We have already seen how far this has taken us.

Are you really serious. Dominicans keep complaining that there are no jobs yet still the Hatians will come and find work. Alot of these criminals would not want to do an honest days work, they may claim they do and that the lack of employment is their reason for not finding jobs, but if you look at their history for Alot of them it goes back to their school days. They were the bad boys of the class. They would be the ones on the street corners. Their entire demeanor makes it difficult for them to find employment anywhere in the world not just Dominica. So let’s stop blaming the government like we always do and accept responsibility for ourselves and our children. Let’s raise them right. Maybe then things will be different. BTW I hope there is no crime in florida since there are lots of opportunities. Or if their is who’s to blame is it the government. &

Haitians will take the low paying jobs because they have to make a start in a new country. Most Haitians live in a shared house, which drops their rent, so they can survive on a $500 a month salary. As natives that salary is not good enough. If the economy is good and jobs are flowing then we can consider doing 2, even 3 jobs to make ends meet. What options do us natives have?? Stop using the Haitians and what they do as examples, because the Haitians are just in transit to greener pastures.

So the holiday called Christ is a reason to steal? There is never a good excuse for stealing. And DA has fruit trees. If we had a PM that stayed home instead of spending thousands of dollars globe trotting to sell passports or make lucrative deals for himself, there might be a program to help feed and house the poor as well as a job program. Do people understand how much money it costs to travel these days? And I am sure that he goes first class..

So you think you know more than Labourites.
Why are you blaming the PM? Blame those crooks who are greedy and cannot keep their eyes and hands off the property of others. They plan their next move, where else to rob.
They do not want to work and want to live off the avails of hardworking people. Do you not see the unfairness of this?
Call a spade a spade. They are downright thieves. A trap should be set for them.
Let them keep heaping burning coals on their heads. They must know that a severe punishment awaits them.
As for you who condone them, it is like aiding and abetting. Your lot will be similar, if not the same.

      • December 23, 2015

When ever you see i mention prime minister this does not mean that i am blaming him ,let’s get the facts right…The prime minister is the head of state in other words he is the leader in the country,no one cam take any serious decision with passing through him….if the prime minister and all the other ministers who are forever picking at each other instead of working together for the good of the country cannot take some time to change the laws and apply them to suit the crimes it makes no sense to invite foreigners to invest in dominica nor give them citizenship when they cannot protect them..and even their own fellow dominicans …dominica is improving in reverse…

  33. December 22, 2015

How can investors come to dominica to invest after reading such an article,it is a shame that we have so little in dominica and criminality is so high, some times we might think that it is because there are very few jobs but any one who goes stealing with guns whether it is loaded or not are not only hungry but in also a criminal ,you should know that any loaded gun can kill whether intentional or accidental. This is the type of crime that the gov’t should aim at not people swearing, not marijuana planters…the gov’t must name, show their photos to the public and shame these thieves after they are caught and imprison them for very long periods…make them work in prison for there own food and other needs,,,do not make the prison a 7 star hotel for a lazy thief…dominica is not in need of that, there are too many unsolved murders in such a small country with about 72.000 inhabitants clean up dominica, build a bigger prison ,change the laws and put these criminals away for life if…

If allu say Dominica getting developed, slow down. If itis that kind of progess. We dont need it. Dominica too small for that. I feeling so ashame . i went to Jamaica and i boast about Dominica having little or no crimes but now what can i say. For a population of about 70000. That is too much. Robbers have no respect and it is becausethey know that the police are not catching them , they went back to the same gasstation.it might not be the same set of people.something has to be done before things get worse in that country.

I wrote a comment earlier saying Dominica is in a bad way, so close to Christmas and all these awful incidents. I said Dominicans should hang their head in shame. I got many red arrows. Well, those who red arrowed me, I hope they’re pleased! Maybe they think Dominicans should SMILE AND WAVE THEIR FLAGS IN THE AIR and celebrate this spate!

  45. December 22, 2015

Gm, MerryChristmas Christmas to all. We used to be told that there’s to things that are certain, Death, and Taxes. We might have to add, Robbery at gas stations during Christmas time, let’s all understand, crime is mostly opportunistic in my opinion all business establishedment have a responsibility to ensure that measures are taken to secure their premises, and their patrons. Gas stations are easy targets, cause money is constantly exchanging hands as a result the culprit s, already aware of that, hence planning a robbery is made easy picking, we should not discount also there might be some inside input in relations to those Robberies. It’s not practicable to have a police presence at every gas station.
