Savarin appeals for witnesses in arson cases

Section of Emmanuel's house damaged during the fire on Christmas day

National Security Minister Charles Savarin wants Dominicans to say what they know about two recent cases of arson in the country.

The first incident occurred on Christmas day last year when the home of former magistrate Glenworth Emmanuel was destroyed by fire. Police labeled the incident as arson but no perpetrators have been identified.

In January 2011, the head of the Financial Intelligence Unit Patrick George reported that Molotov cocktails, or bottles containing explosive liquids, were thrown into his River Estate home early in the morning of January 23, causing a major explosion.

Police described the incident as not only one of arson but attempted murder.

Savarin said on a radio program Thursday that he is certain there are people who know something about the said incidents and he called on them to take their information to the police.

“I am satisfied that there must be a person or persons who saw, heard or know something about what happened, who may not be sure but suspect. If you saw anything that is unusual, if you heard anything that you suspect could be tied into these incidents bring it to the attention of the police,” he appealed.

He said it is in Dominica’s interest to “find and apprehend and bring before the courts the perpetrators of these two heinous acts”.

SIMPLE, YOU HAVE TO WAIT ON THE RESULTS OF THE POLICE AND FIRE PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATIONS BEFORE YOU MAKE PUBLIC STATEMENTS NOT ALL FIRES ARE SET MAILISOUSLY MANY ARE ACCIDENTS AND UNTIL YOU HAVE A REORT FROM THE FIRE AND POLICE YOU CANNOT COME OUT AND ASK FOR POSSIBLE WITNESSES. DONT WE UNDERSTAND HOW THINGS WORK AT ALL OR WE JUST TOO POLITICAL TO CARE?. PEACE

You know as the police goes so does Dominicans ie it`s all well if you know and want to keep it to yourself but remember tomorrow the shoes might be on your feet then you will realized how others feel, it`s in our best intreast to report “IF we see something say something” We cannot afford criminals to high jack our country. Zero tolerance must be the watch word for any illagallity and to ensure a crime free Dominica.

    • hope
      February 12, 2011

You got to be living in a box it’s time you get out and look at your surroundings criminals activities are rampant on the ISLAND already so zero tollerance is a joke if those who suppose to show the examples are cauing and prevent justice to prevail why do believe people to come forward it would be just if we could see peoples attitudes change but it will take time and by the way the POLICE department and some police men makes it impossible to trust them we need to clean up the system and clean out some of those men who refuse to follow the rule of law for they are the ones making it bad for Dominica.

    Mr. Savoir

I think the police is unbalance, two simular case, with two different label, one as asron and the other as asron and atemped murder, why not the both cases treated as asron/Murder…..

    What is the police doing?????????????????????????????????

The police need to come clean the a very corrpt, what the doing with the drugs they getting, the give it to people to sell, this why the have assets they can’t explain with their legal income……..
