The infamous Kurt “Shabba” James, who is well-known to the police, has once again found himself in trouble with the law.
James, who appeared before Magistrate Bernard Pacquette on Monday wearing a torn green shirt, pleaded guilty to the offences of resisting arrest and threats.
According to police reports, on 18th July, 2013 James was approached by two police officers dressed in plain clothes outside the Roseau Magistrate Court.
The officers, after identifying themselves, asked him to get into the police vehicle since he was a suspect in an ongoing matter.
James responded to the officers stating that he could not leave since he had a matter in the court which was stood down by the magistrate for five minutes.
James was asked to board the vehicle and again he refused. With the assistance of other officers, James was placed into the police vehicle.
James explained to the court that he was not trying to resist arrest or fight with the police officer but was simply trying to explain to him that he should first tell the magistrate that the police were leaving with him.
At the same court appearance James pleaded guilty to threatening to kill his landlady, Rosa Rodriquez.
James told the court that Rodriquez and his girlfriend Sylvia “are good friends” and he had learnt that Sylvia, who is originally from Santo Domingo, had reportedly escaped with 48,000 euro which he was allegedly holding for someone.
James indicated that he threatened Rodriquez because he was desperate and angry and wanted to contact Sylvia.
However the magistrate was keen on sending a message since James was out on bail for an offence.
Pacquette informed the defendant that he had violated a condition of his bail which was “to be on good behavior and not commit any offence while on bail.”
James was therefore sentenced to six months in jail.
Bring back hanging for murder and you will not have repeat offenders like shaba. Castration for rapists and child molesters… they will think twice or never, change their ways or jock theirs. Mandatory minimum sentences for drug dealers and traffickers plus hard labor to build roads, homes, cut bush, repair the harbors etc. 10 years hard labor for voluering. Leave marijuana alone unless is in large quantities or control the cultivation, distribution and taxation of it.

It seems as though when accused murderers are given a slap on the wrist, they just walk around causing more trouble (Issa for example)and ending up back in court. Let us see what happens with this one after six months or maybe three!!!!!!!!!! Lord have mercy!!!!!!!!!

This is another proof of the flaws in the system. This man is no stranger to the courts, yet he is only sentenced six months. The court keeps sending the wrong messages, so much so, they are also guilty for the rapid increase in heinous crimes. The court is sympathetic towards perpetrators of violent acts, and merciless towards those who commit petty crimes. What an injustice. This must be addressed asap, otherwise too late shall be your cry.
I think he should have been given more than six months, a year at least.

this case is nonsense. Apart for his past offences, this man tried to do the right thing. The officers would not listen to his explanation and “assisted” him by “placing” him in the vehicle. For trying to not be in deeper water …he was arrested? nonsense. and Dominicans! what is up with ya’ll reveling in the downfall of your fellow people.
