Curtis “Shakes” Richards of Newtown and Andy Prosper of Morne Prosper have published a paid statement in a local newspaper thanking their supporters while stating forgiveness to their “haters”.
The statement comes one week after the Director of Public Prosecutions withdrew charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder against the duo for a 2009 triple murder.
The men declared their innocence in the paid advertisement published in the Chronicle.
“I would like to thank the most high God for his mercies because he knows the truth, praise Him all the time. I would like to thank everyone who prayed for us, supported us in every way and believed in us knowing better,” the statement reads.
The charges were in relation to the deaths of Allan Bardouille of Newtown, Mannison Thomas of Fond St. Jean and Kenneth Birmingham of Kings Hill whose bodies were found riddled with bullets in a boat 26 miles off the coast of Salisbury in October last year.
In court on November 5, 2010, Prosecutor Wayne Norde told Magistrate Candia George that the prosecution was no longer willing to give evidence against the two men on the matter. Magistrate George therefore withdrew the charges upon their request. The prosecution gave no reason for their decision.
The men thanked attorney-at-law Zena Dyer and a St. Lucian-based lawyer.
“I would like to thank Mrs. Zena Dyer from the bottom of my heart for all her effort and hard work. She believed in us when we told her that we did not kill anyone. Big up to Mr. Marcus Peter Foster,” the statement reads.
The men had a message for the “haters”.
“To my haters, I will forgive all of you. No hard feelings. God knows. Envy and jealousy can get us nowhere. Know yourselves, persons from Newtown and Giraudel should know better than to think we would do something like that. Shame, shame,” they remarked.
The statement further stated: “It was a sad day for all. Kmala, Mannison and Pappas, they were all friends. Pappas was family. You can now rest in peace brothers, knowing we are now free from these crazy accusations. Once again thanks to all who prayed and supported us and believe in us. May the good Lord bless you all richly. You all know yourselves.”
The men concluded the letter by stating “who Jah bless no man curse”. It was signed by “Ras Shakes and Andy” and dated Nov. 12, 2010.
Richards and Prosper had been remanded for a few weeks last year before they were bailed two days before Christmas with sureties for $500,000 each at the High Court.

Some time ago, Shakes was involved in a suspicious matter in St. Marteen. It was alleged that a man was found dead in the boot of a vehicle he was driving or he might have rented.Exact details are unknown. Something like that. Ask Son Son of Loubiere. He and Son Son was arrested and proseucted and survived. He has survived yet another serious matter. His guilt/inocence in this matter is known by few individuals – including the most high. What is known for sure. He was processed by the justice system. The same system we all are beneficiaries of. The justice system can only work if we the people particiapte and support the system.
In this particular matter those with the information who could have assisted in the dispensation of justice chose to keep quiet and refused to provide the justice system with the information. For example. Everybody in Newtown knows who are the two young ‘boys” and “Dirty Crate” who went in search of the survivor. He is known as the interpreter. Kamala’s sibling is a known drug dealer, He has information but refused to co-operate with the police, because it is alleged that he received certain promises which are not forthcoming. So whilst people are very diasppinted with the outcome of the matter, the family of Allan, Kamala and Mannison were let down by those who refused to co-operate with the system.
So Andy and Shakes are out to continue with their life – that is fine. Like those with the information who refused to co-operate with the police they have their conscience to deal with. Let us not moan and cry at the outcome. There could have beena differnt outcoem if those with the information had provide the system with the information.
JUSTICE MAY SEEM TO BE SLOW IN COMING (for all of us). BUT WHEN IT DO COME, WE OURSELVES HAVE ALWAYS REACTED ON THE SIDE OF THE CRIMINAL. SEE THE PUBLIC OUTCRY AFTER MANGWA’S SLAYING?. HOW GOOD A MAN HE WAS. But justice will come.
in the meantime, a lot of inncoent people have become “haters” in this matter. Whilst Shakes and Andy are now free to move on with their life, there are a number of innocent people who have been branded as “haters” as a result of this matter and have to carry that stigma perhaps for life.

My sister emailed me, after seeing my comments and uncertainties about the above news article, and she confirmed that Allan was indeed, the son of my sister’s husband He was also the father of my cousin’s child, her name is Debora–who is the daughter of my aunts daughter. Allan must have been using the last name of his mother, that is the reason I could not make the link to my sister’s husband.
So I guess the people whom Curtis Richards is talking against is my family. And now I am wondering how would he and his family react, if a man of his family was murdered, leaving behind very small children to grow up without their father, and a mother of that same family, who will need help because she must fend for herself and her small child. Debora’s son is only two years old. Allan’s father has quite a few children to my sister, so he left brothers and sisters in Giraudel as well.
The worst part is that those who have been charged with the murder are simply thrown of the court to their freedom, with reasons that everyone must accept without a choice. How can this man expect us to simply accept him as a saint, to believe that he had nothing to with the murder of a member of our family? Why was he arrested and sent to jail in the first place? And if he was so innocent, why he not sue the court for wrongful imprisonment, to defend his reputation, instead of writing a hypocritical letter expecting people to accept him as a saint without human flaws?
Well Curtis Richards, I do not know who you are, but I know the people of my family. Whether you killed Allan with your own hands or not, you still have blood on your hands, because you have evidence or knowledge of how and why that killing happened. But you refuse to reveal information, that justice might prevail.
It would have been better for you, if you did not write that letter; much more to use negative words like “haters” against my family. I do not know what it is about you that makes you think we are jealous of you, but it is certainly not your character, as it seems to me that you do not have one of those. We are not that kind of people, and especially not haters. But I am sure that you did something to us, the reason you would think we hate you.
You used your mouth to praise God, but He knows that you have no heart for Him. And last of all, we do not need forgiveness from you, with your corrupt mind and pervert lifestyle. The name Curtis Richards rings a bell in my ears, since I know a man whose mother lived in Newtown, but he spent most of his life in Griaudel. His last name is Richards, and he had a fews children with different women from Giraudel. He died young, but it is possible that Curtis is his son. But I have no idea who was a young Allan with a father from Giraudel. It has been a long time since I am living away from Dominica. Thank you again.

the case was thrown out most likely because there was no evidence placing mr richards on the crime scene, all the evidence suggested he was ashore when the crime took place! like i always say it is one thing to say someone did however you have to be able to prove in a court of law that the person actually did so.

First of ll this article was written by one person, The use of the “i” to start a sentence amd we to end it indicte that there was one person writing this and they just included the other so it look like a colaborated effort. I dont know of these men’s guilt or innocence, what I do know is that the director of public prosecution owes the public an explanation as to why the charges are dropped, or maybe birds of a feather flock together, and getting away with murder in Dominica bears no consequences since high level prosecutors, prominen attorneys and their sons have shown us that you can kill, get away with and and still live a life of prominence in Dominica… and then call on the name of Jah.

Okay, but I wish that somone would explain to me why Giraudel, my home village, is mentioned here; since the news article say that Curtis Richards is from Newtown and Andy Prosper is from Morne Prosper. I do not understand the link.
