Sociologist Dr. Francis Severin is a condemning the attempted murder of a local police officer recently.

Bottles of liquid were thrown inside the home of Corporal Patrick George at about 3:30 a.m at his River Estate residence, causing a massive explosion. George was one of the officers responsible for bringing major money laundering charges against a few individuals last year.

Dr. Severin has described the incident as an attack on the judicial system in the country and has also questioned whether Dominica has the political and social will to deal with the criminal activities taking place.

“In order to attack crime, we have to have the moral authority to do so. We have to reach the stage where it’s total unison in terms of our outcry about those incidents,” he said.

It is high time that the government and other responsible individuals in our beloved land of Dominica realise that we need to strengthen our laws. Its time we employ qualified individuals in forensic science and investigative technics. This is required to curb the criminal elements in our land. Things are indeed getting out of control. We have too many gasbagspoliticians talking loud and saying or nothing.

The moral authority is very important and will only come through a unified moral approach. The problem we are having in Dominica is the ” Situational Morality” complex.
The other problem is the Authority – there is a lack of morality among the authority. The lack of justice and the obvious imbalance in the dispensation of justice is a major problem. We are just harvesting the fruits of injustice and corruption.
