A man from St. Lucia who has been living in Dominica for the past nine years is now facing a charge of murder in relation to the death of Gloria Celestine of Portsmouth.

Marcus Charlery appeared in court last Friday and was remanded in custody.

34-year-old Celestine of Lagoon, Portsmouth, who was reported missing on November 6, was found dead close to a house on the beach in Lagoon, Portsmouth, at about 8:30 on November 9.

The partly decomposed body was discovered by a member of a group of Portsmouth residents who had been searching for the missing woman.

She was last seen about 2:40 am on November 6 at Memory Lane Disco in Portsmouth.

It is reported that Celestine is the mother of one of Charlery’s children.

Charlery is represented by Dawn Yearwood-Stewart and is expected back in court on March 6, 2014.

Celestine’s death was one of many crimes which had plagued Portsmouth in recent weeks.

To saddened , my heart is broken for Gloria Marcus and most of all the children. Marcus is a hard working very cool partner he was like a son to me.I just pray it was an accident and he panicked? Dominican Police are hopeless they didnt solve this crime. Marcus turned himself in only he knows what he did and why?

Marcus did not turn himself in.. he was arrested … sole reason being he was the boyfriend! god is great, he will be reunited back with is children and the perpetrator will pay the price!
I need the police to start investigating this murder.
(1)watch who Gloria called that night – I know they can pull up the records

(2)tell the public how it was possible for Marcus to place a decomposing body in a fenced yard with a dog

      (3) why aren’t they questioning Gloria’s family as to what kind of man Marcus was

Marcus is My big brother.. I grew up with him … he would never hurt someone he loves.. instead he stood up for them

Marcus if it is really u who killed her we want an explanation of how u did it eh cuz that is hard to swallow. And if it is u may God repay u in double. But if it’s not may that person be found and omg! may they be tormented and suffer for life. Cuz that person would have to be more than heartless to stand back and watch someone take the punishment for something they didn’t do. STUPESSSSSS!!!!!!!

it really is sad when a nation is trying to pin an innocent man of a crime he didn’t commit. the people who knew him knows he would never lay a finger on Gloria much less kill her. but just like in st lucia just so that the police could be awarded and promoted they trying to solve a case… not caring who is hurt in the process. a lil child is left without her mother and the law is trying to pin her father who they know damn well didn’t commit the crime to suffer!
they have all the evidence they need… if her family is standing behind him – who are we again to be standing against him.
the place the body was found needs to be search thoroughly, cause for the likes of me I cant understand… y marcus will kill his gf… hide her for so long and then leave her exposed that way!
not being Dominican would he even take the chance of stepping out on the road with a dead body after it had started decaying… wouldn’t he be scared of someone seeing considering also that she was missing!
the God that I serve is a mighty God… im praying to him that Gloria makes the person life a living hell!
they better start doing their job right – my little cousins need their father and my cousin needs to come back to st lucia!
dominica police just as bad as Lucian police if its true what im hearing! just to say urll solve a crime you ready to prosecute an innocent man…
      #do ur jobs right

Why wasn’t the property of the man in which the body was found searched from top to bottom? Why wasn’t he interrogated as well? That man has a dog staying on his pourch so u mean that dog never alerted the owner that something or someone strange was on his property? A dog people! come on tell me something. We walk on d opposite side of d street and that dog barks behind like mad behind people. We need to look at all aspect of that crime. We want answers! We want justice! Come on people we need to stand up! Police open u all eye, mind start to do some good work for us. We can’t deal with this poor justice system. That is so sad and I still miss seeing her. There is so many questions to be answered. Plz DNO give correct reports. The body wasn’t found near a house on the beach but it was found in a mans yard within his gates and people need to know the truth. Why would the bf carry her dead body and place it there after so many days? That body I saw with my own eyes could not be carried and placed there, impossible! So many things that needs tone looked at. God torment that killer, may a spirit of madness come upon that person. The Lagoon people needs answers. The police need to do their job they have messed up badly. Poor policing!

The authorities must send Marcus back to St. Lucia to spend his prison time. We do not want him to serve his sentence here to eat our taxpayers money. We do not want him to get fat in prison eating the (female) taxpayers money. SEND HIM BACK TO ST LUCIA TO DO HIS PRISON TIME!

Violence against women when will it stop. Women need to take a stand and step out of an abusive relationship, it takes courage for the sake of your children do it. My cousin died a few years ago at the hands of her boyfriend who swear he LOVED her but he forgot their children who lost both parents. He also tried to kill their eldest daughter who came to protect her mother, by cutting off her hand. WOMEN take your power back this is your life don’t give your power off to anyone LOVE yourself first.

This man is a heartless wicked person and not being a Dominican and killed a Dominican, the mother of his child.
I am asking this question again as I did the first time when I read that she was murdered, “What did she do to him to deserve this fate?”
Was he a landed resident or illegal one? No bail for him. After he has served whatever amount of time deemed by the DA Court, he should be promptly deported unless he dies in prison. He does not deserve to remain in Dominica.
Vieux Negre, depriving children of their mother. He can never make up for this atrocity he committed and to her children. Prison is too good for him.

People in every Dominican community need to come together and ask themselves one thing. Is this the direction we want dominica to be going? This is not a government thing you know, it is a community thing. I remember times when the community stuck together and defend people who were right while condemning the wrong at the same time. Now it seem everyone is being held hostage, too afraid to talk because of retaliation etc. at the same time, my kids have to grow up in this crap? What will it be like in ten or twenty years here?

        I meant violent crimes

    • November 28, 2013

Do you have to be a Ph.D. in sociology to be able to connect the dots :?:

When God gave the Old Testament law to Moses for the Nation of Israel He warned them against sins of sexual immorality “lest the land be filled with violence”.

How long will it take for people to see 8-O that there is a connection between fornication (illicit sex) and violence against women, especially murder?

Forniction includes ANY form of sexual activity between two people who are not husband and wife in a Biblical marriage according to the one man and one woman model God have give us in Matthew 19:4-6. It could be pre-marital sex, extra-marital sex, homosexality, or a couple living “commonlaw” which may be called a “marriage” by the community, but is not :cry a marriage in the sight of God.

The common practice of these sins causes disrespect for women. This results in people having less regard for the mothers, daughers, and sisters of our nations. The fact that fornication is winked at and accepted causes women to lose a sense of their own worth. They mut give without receiving in return. It causes men to help themselves without putting a ring on their finger and giving them what most women want most in life: marriage and a legitimate family!

I discovered this many years ago when I wrote a research paper for a Diploma Course in Christian Ethics. I had chosen for my topic “Sexual Permissiveness”. It caught my attenion when I saw case after case in the Bible where we have fornication and murder in the same story.

This led me to look closer at murder in the news. I was shocked to find  so many cases with fornication and murder on the same page front and center! When I seemed at first to have murder but no obvious sexual immorality I paused. But even in THESE cases a closer investigation would usually show that somebody had been breaking the moral laws of God. In most cases the murder and the victim were in a sinful sexual “relationship”. I found in a few cases when it was not obvious I couldn’t assume it wasn’t there! I only needed to look a little harder. Fornication cannot always be DIRECTLY traced to the crime. But human minds that have been invaded by lust and warped by illicit sex usually have a problem with jealousy and unable to control anger. The victim may be an innocent party but the driving force behind the crime was lust or it caused the deteriation within the one who committed the violence.

We need a return to God and a revival of obedience to His laws regarding human sexual bahavior. Premarital chastity with warnings against the consequences of fornication should be taught in the homes, schools, and churches of every nation that wants to see a drop in crimes of violence. This is especially true of those who would like to reduce the number of crimes against women and raise the level of respect towards them. In time the crime rate would drop significantly.

Sincerel, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

        November 29, 2013

I agree with some of your comments but remember a young woman lost her life her, because she was a fornicator in the eyes of man that does not mean she may not have had a clean heart. The bible says ask for forgiveness she may have done that after making her mistakes in life. We are all human and have at some point fall short of the glory of God. HAVE YOU?

      I follow DNO.

I didn’t know Gloria Celestine but like many others I grieved when I read of her death.

Every human life is precious in God’s sight be the person male or female, young or old, rich or poor.

All of us have an appointment to stand before God. For some it will be at the end of a full life. Others will be taken early by an illness or an accident. It is especially sad to hear of a life being cut short by an act of violence.

The important thing for all of us is to be ready.
Nobody can read the heart of another person. We don’t know what goes in somebody’s heart in the last moments of live.

I am impressed by the work of the Dominican police. Again and again DNO reports of their success in solving serious crimes even after some time has elapsed.

You may have the best police force in the Caribbean! Congratulations :!:

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evanglist.

On the cross at Calvary Jesus Christ paid the price in full by the shedding of His precious blood for the salvation of every man and woman, boy and girl. (Romans 5:6,8) Each of us must make it personal by receiving Him as our Savior. (1 John 5:11,12) (Revelation 3:20)
