Teen girl shoots dad with arrow because he took away her cell phone – police

No amount of family counseling is going to help here.

A Washington State man had to be airlifted to the hospital after his daughter shot him with a hunting bow because he took away her cell phone, authorities said.

The 15-year-old girl refused to let her father use the phone to call for help Wednesday evening, forcing him to crawl to a neighbor’s house for help, KOMO-TV reported.

When officers arrived at the house in Tahuya, Wash. – about 35 miles west of Seattle – the girl fled into the woods with the bow and 35 arrows.

A SWAT team was called in to take her into custody.

Her 35-year-old father was listed in serious condition.

firstly it isn’t called bow and arrow its called archery and how can you people be saying and i quote “she do right…” and “she do right wat she doin with cell phone at 15”. I had a phone at 11 and on many occasions i have had my phone taken away from me and i have NEVER had range to that extent. For every action she does there has to be a consequence, also you can’t be saying that teacher’s has to have an input in the child’s upbringing. Discipline starts at home and if her parent’s can’t control her then they need some parenting lessons. If she is getting abused by her father, mother or both she should seek help in other ways rather than going to shoot an arrow at her father. But none of you commenting on this article would think of that because most of you are still living in metal box in the middle of the bush and your onl soruce of light is either the computer your on right now or the street light in your area that’s like a mile away.

in my growing up days, respect was always there, i think everyone of u knew that., so stop making excuses, this child is out of control, and no one would not like there child to do that to them, how would you feel if it was you, whether fear or no fear, that’s a wicked child,in our days there was no cell phone.public phones was the only resource. For some of u who supports this child behavior, It might happen to u, it all starts with bow and arrow indian style.

Would this be lack of parental discipline? Also lack of school discipline? Schools appear not to be in the business of disciplining children, teaching them about etiquette – good manners; respect and dignity for others. I do believe that the schools should play a part in this for there are some children who may not receive such nurturing at home or that they are disobedience and will not listen to their parent(s).
Technology is a good thing but it could be bad. Note, in some cases, what occurs, the abuse of utilizing technology. I do think that everyone was not meant to make use of it.
Cellphones are an example, a child injuring her father with a bow and arrow because he took away her cellphone.
No amount of counselling will assist her? Oh my! This is one bad child who may spend her life on the streets and in prison. It is very sad.
We need to consider what type of parent(s) she has and what type of discipline she received and in what manner which caused her to do such a thing to her father.
I feel sorry for her and her future.

THIS GIRL IS REALLY OUT OF CONTROL TO ATTACK HER FATHER. SHE MAYBE GET AWAY
WITH ALOTS OF CRAP SO SHE PLAYING BOSS. SOME PARENTS LET THE CHILDREN GET
AWAY WITH MURDER AND AT END THE CHILDREN BECAME THE PARENT, AND THE PARENT
ARE THE CHILDREN. IN MY OPINION SHE WOULD GET A CELL PHONE WHEN SHE IS ABLE
    TO PAY FOR IT.

She most likely learned at school.

I learned how to use a bow and arrow in games lessons at school. Very difficult thing to master (I never did).

I dont as a rule agree to hitting children, but for something as serious as this, I would.

The real issue here is why did her parents let her reach a stage where she is so upset that she resorts to physical violence…and against her father, for a cell phone?!?! You must be crazy. I come from the “old school” of discipline but know how to incorporate “new school” in the mix with my 14 yr old daughter. My wife thinks I’m too hard sometimes but I have to protect her and help her develop good moral values, discipline and manners.

She had a cell phone and was totally irresponsible so I took it, and if for one second she had reacted in any disrespectful or physical way, I would have knocked her out, if you understand what I mean. We are letting these kids get out of hand and then crying after we cannot control a situation. I say spare the rod and spoil the child. Because later in life they’ll find themselves in bigger trouble and think everyone they do wrong to will accept their non-sense.

Parents, take up your responsibilities and discipline your children from home. Don’t wait to send them school and expect them to be disciplined or let the TV, Internet, worst again facebook and youtube babysit them. Children respect and love your parents for they will not always be there for you in life.

This is some real positive comment. I totally agree with you.just adding that the parents must be on the same level of overstanding.

youall would give her blows eh. maybe that’s the reason why she did it….she did it out of fear……….knowing thaqt blows would follow. just like the six year old who shot his father because he was afraid of geting a beating.

to all those who dislike myu comment i really don’t care.untill you knows what if feels like to literLLY TREMB LE at the sight of your father you won’t understand.

Even if she did it out of fear, she should have called for help once she realised what she had done.

We dont know the full story, but her actions were out of order.

    • nit
      May 27, 2011

this has nothing to do with bravery..this has to do with respect..u respected your father..and this is what kids are lacking nowadays, respect for their parents..

children nowadays think they can do what they want, whenever they want..

your foolishness is show sharp it would put that arrow tip in the shade. If you are the same tiny who always talk about God, you are a complete fraud and hypocrite. People of your kind will definitely meet their end. Here it is, a young girl has made a terrible mistake in her life, and you are giving her props. Don’t get me wrong, I do not know all the details of this, and your situation but violence is never the best way to solve problems. You can’t use one problem to solve a problem.
