A Portsmouth electrician will pay the court $500 after he pleaded guilty to the charge of theft in the Roseau Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
An explanation from his lawyers convince the court to impose such considerable light sentence.
“It is a simple case of miscommunication my worship. The defendant is an electrician and it was meant as payment for work done,” defense lawyer Wayne Norde told the court.
Jason Brian Royer, 38, was slapped with the charge of theft after he allegedly stole $1,215 worth of property including clothes pegs, plates, glasses, chairs, a cylinder, shower curtains and a stainless steel wine rack among other items from a Salisbury home.
According to the police on May 1 the complainant, Joan Maglore, was making regular inspection of a home for which she is the caretaker since the owners live overseas. Maglore, during her inspection, noticed the house was in disarray and took notes of the missing items which she reported to police.
During investiagations the policemen the suspect and informed him about the missing items. “Officer my friend Joe Maglore that gave them to me. Officer they came from the lady house. I didn’t go inside. I talking the truth and I am not lying,” Royer reportedly told police. He later brought police to his home where all the items were retrieved
In explanation Royer told the court that he was invited by a friend to do the wiring on the house sometime in April.
