UPATED: Three arrested for Valley Engineering armed robbery

Police have arrested three individuals in connection with last Thursday morning’s armed robbery at the Valley Engineering Sales and Service establishment in Goodwill.

Two of the suspects arrested are believed to be from Stockfarm. The other suspect, who was arrested yesterday, was allegedly the driver of the getaway car that was stolen from the company’s rental service.

Reports suggest that two armed men charged into the business brandishing guns under the disguise of masks. They reportedly gave themselves away by using each other’s real names during the robbery.

Police arrested the men and held them for questioning. They may be charged or released based on whether or not the police gather sufficient evidence.

DNO has been receiving reports that one of the men were released without charge, however our news team is still trying to get in touch with the authorities to verify this information.

It is also speculated that the robbery could have been a set up considering the amount of money, which has so far been referred to only as ‘a lot’, that was stolen and the ease in which the bandits gained access to the two vaults.

Since you are fully aware of that, you could take the initiative and commence doing something. Challenge others to do likewise. They may follow. Do not merely be a talker or writer. Do something. Be the leader.

wow u guys are like a low watt bulp dim witted the crime committed are in direct relation to the environment that we in Dominica now want to sustain the more Americanized become the more we should expect to see these kind of crimes. it’s time that we all look with in our selves. and start asking the real question.”what can i do to assist my country.?” how can i improve the plight of the young people who are the one suffering the most here in our lovely country of Dominica. the youth have nothing. there is nothing for the young people to partake in tell what have we put in place for the youth of Dominica? we should start paying attention to the situation of the young people. if they are left to their own devices any longer we will have a lot more to deal wit all who love flapping you lips. stop and start paying attention to the youth in your community, and start thinking of ways to help them, because all this is a shout for help and we are not giving them help instead we treat them like is jail they going to go any ways. then when they do something and find their selves in trouble wit the law, we lambaste them and have it like ” oh long time i know is jail they going and end up!” yet you or anyone never really tried to help that young one. saying bad things is so much more easier than doing the right thing.

    @Stupes:

I noticed that but I let it pass knowing that in this computer age, nearly everyone appears to have a computer but not all can spell correctly. I exercise patience in reading their comments.
I reside in a part of the world where it is the identical situation. There are those who can utilize some big words that one would think they are highly educated but they cannot spell them and not even write and properly so at that.
I do not want to insult anyone for everyone did not receive the same education as others although as I have noted, they are quite capable of criticizing and insulting others when they do not agree with their comments, calling them some degrading names. This, I totally disagree with and which I endorse should cease. After all it is to be expected that every one of us will have different views on nearly all topics especially when the topic is controversial. I am fully aware of that.
I suppose that is freedom of speech. If they can type, they can check their Thesaurus or dictionary. Also, perform a Word Research on their computer and they will get the correct spelling.
No matter how educated people are or how proficient in spelling, they do make mistakes, be they typographical errors – typing errors – and inadvertently spelling errors. Everyone makes mistakes. Those who constantly have errors in their writings, they should do something about it. They should also read their writing prior to forwarding it.
While no one is perfect, I try to be perfect in all what I do. I always strive for perfection. This has much to do with my parents nurturing and schooling. I am grateful for it without exulting myself and without seeking compliments.
    Have a great evening/day!

    @Dominica needs change:

Say thank god they did not learn from robbery school!!!!

Most crimes are caused as a result of the opportunity presenting itself.

Please le us not give these people any bright ideas. At times we must remember the good old saying that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

I think that DNO should remove the comments section, because it is not being used for the right purpose. There is no positivity coming from it, everything is being blown out of proportion, and the spelling just out of the question. You all want to post comments and can’t spell. Shame on some of you.

Guadeloupe, SM, Jamaica and the many other places Dominican’s go to and come from via “backdoor” services. I hope that they were actually silly enough to use their real names and are in fact the individuals who robbed the place as it would be quite sad if the individuals being held are not the individuals who committed the crim

You people are so small minded what if the names of the Criminals were just a “sham” to frame some other person or what if the names were just random names to put the police off course which is clearly working. These cops are so gullible, next time somebody rob somewhere I want them to say Skeritt let me see if they will take robbers seriously. Anybody can rob a place and just say “John Doe get the door”, now; Does that necessarily mean the guy name is John Doe? My point is Dominican investigators are always quick to believe the obvious and most time these cases go unsolved cuz when they do realize…it is TOO LATE.

Strange things are happening in Dominica. Some of which can make one laugh out loud. Is this my country of Dominica?
Another hold-up with masks and guns? It is becoming a habit. They are daring. And they gave their names? Unbelievable! This is enough to make me laugh. Such stupid criminals. :) I cannot stop laughing. Only in Dominica you say? An Abbot and Costello style hold-up.
In their stupidity, ignorance and criminal inexperience, it is a good thing that they gave their names. They are caught.
Could be an inside job? This is not impossible.
I do hope the money is recovered and that they get exactly what they deserve.
No bail for them. No community work. Eventual rehabilitation.
Hold-ups with guns, be they fake or real ones deserve full justice. The punishment should fit the crime. Seriously, it could have resulted in injuries or deaths.
The youths are in dire need of guidance. There appears to be more guns in Dominica than people are aware of. I continue to question, where did those guns come from and when did they get them.
Idleness is the devil’s playground. Let us pray for Dominica and also for those criminals who appear to have no heart and respect for others and for their property. They are a menace to the Dominican society. May God assist them accordingly.

Is the ‘a lot of money taken, been retrieved by police? Will that ‘a lot’ of money remain in police custody as evidence for the case, or will those robbers be given the money back? Just curious.

it’s the rich agianst the poor. they don’t want these criminals to become productive members of scociety. they don’t wnt them to become part of their club. there’s not enough room for everyone. so we got to think of ways to keep the poorin poverty, lets keep them uneducated. if they become good parents and their kids become doctors and lawyers our kids are gonna have to compete. we cant have this happening NO WAY

@Anonymous: If the business places arm themselves then what that leaves room for is death during the robbery because it is very likely that the robbers will shoot on arrival because they will feel threatened during the robbery. Having business places with guns or security with guns for that matter is not a good idea.

Well philosophy explains it.When those above and those below can no longer live under the regime it’s time for revolution. However D/cans are so divided after three term of DFP 4.5 yrs of UWP .. and now 10 yrs of neo DLP mix -up … that we are in flux. Those who enjoyed and prospered during 80-95 and those of 95-2000 want to continue doing more than surviving so have camoflaged as red moreso the greens. The youth and the desolate have turned to crime to survive.( people stealing corned beef, eggs ,food crops etc is one of survival)people don’t have pacience anymore thus express their fustrations through crime even murder for unessential reasons.
No body is speaking out about the corruption to be able to keep their jobs. Those building huge houses(not homes) their incomes are suspect to nacortics, and other illigal activity. Our leaders are poor examples so noone cares any more. people of backgrounds of no inheritance are suddenly florishing.Crime, lack of apathy, increase murder rates more studiated fools, people living for material things and sewo every week end are sign of our psuedo development. The justice system becoming crooked are all signs of skewed development.

Of course not, D/ca isn’t immune from CRIME and per capita it’s holding itself well stacked up against other island/countries. We need to get grip of abating the growth, gradually, of an evil epidemic
becoming our fear; a plight in our lives.
Consequently, I call upon all persons/nationals to do their bit to help fight this evolving trend of lawlessness in our society. To the government – please get to grip with things quickly and put some real fear into the lives of these criminals. Thank you.

@breadfruit: well they should really pound you becuase you statements are senseless. The only thing he can do to prevent that is have the police kills suspected would be criminals on site and that is immpractical. You people need to stop breeding and raising criminals. The solution is long term notinstant. The only things that can have any effect is stronger laws on gun related crimes, increase the strengh of the police and an awareness and rehabilitation programme. Without that all of it will be senseless!

With all the crime and violence in Dominica – what is the master plan of the Minister of National security to arrest this plague? One would like to know what measures are being put in place to fight crime and to heal Dominica of all these social ills. If something is not done – to easi the pressure of the people of Dominica – well there unfortunately be a rise in these sad activities. Minister Charlo you got the authority in ya hands to Do some thing – please act now Charlo. Imagine the guys are now robbing businesses and so forth -nah – thats not right –
    Will somebody do something!

I am reading this news item with a two fold reaction one i am elated that they caught those loosers and i hope they get what comining for them by way of letting the punishment fit the crime. The sad part is this crime was one waiting to happen Yes I sad it” THIS was a crime waiting to happen. Before saying anything further let me make it clear that i do not know the accused from “ADAM” but i know what i am about to say might have our genius Dominicans saying if i know so much and saw the opportunity that that place was a sitting duck beging to be robbed. So Dominicans i had nothing to do with the commisson of this crime. Having said that i always maintained as a former detective an crimes scene officer to catch a thief and any real good Detective will tell you to be sucessful in detecting and arresting the bad guys you have to know their.{ M.O modus—operandi}manner of operating”.and the key is to always be two steps ahead of the bad guys. Having said that i want to congratulate our always hard working men and woman of the Dominica Police Force for the job they do inspite of the limited training and resources in most part they have at their disposal i maintained we have the best Police force in the carribbean bare none given the above mentioned limited resourcses vis-a-vis what other carribbean island have in man power training and equipment ect, ect, so much said. Let me echo what the police have been advising our business establishments that it is their responsibility to secure your property and take all necessary measures to minimize the opportunity of the would be burglar to break and enter your property in other words and lay mans language “If you leave your self or your business establishment valunerable the burglar will break a wood up your A…. when will our people learn that any operating business you have to be very careful of the people that work for you and be watchful of the persons they frequent and hang out with, surfice it to say i warned my best friend at that establishment just recently about the way in which they do business and the potential that presents it self to get hit some day. Low and behold thats exactly what happened. Fellow Dominicans lets change our way of thinking ie lets think progressively and not reactionary after the fact .The police in most cases arrives at the scene of most crimes after the commission of that said crime despite all the calls comining from the police Department to people and secure their homes and places of business all that comes thru one ear and goes out the other untill the act is committed then the police is called to investigate and in some cases some people expect the police to create magic and solve their proplem in an instance it does not work like that any where in the World. Finally people listen to the advice comining from the police authorities and their approach to educate us to ensure that we take them seriously they know cause thats what they were trainned to do. More so its independence time its a time ripe for would be criminals to commit crimes and it`s not always our own people commiting those crime i remember during times like we about to celebrate persons comes from far and near for the sole purpose to pick pocket of unsuspecting victims whose sole purpose is to have a good time and be merry while the criminal is watching our every move in order to carry out their act. My fellow Dominicans remember PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE” KEEP YOUR EARS & EYES OPEN TO THOSE who would want to take advantage of us while we are vulnerable. Remember that the crime we help to solve may well be our own. A word to the wise Cover Your a…. at all times.
