Two denied bail in Miniya’s 7-11 burglary

Two men from Fond Cole, Darrel Humphreys and Augustus Harris, are now on remand at the Stock Farm Prison after Magistrate Pearl Williams upheld an application by the prosecution requesting that bail be denied.

The men were arrested on August 29, 2016 after they were found on the premises of Miniyas 7-11 in Canefield.

They were charged with burglary with intent to steal.

The prosecution, led by Inspector Valda Powell, told the court that they were objecting to bail for both men. Humphreys, she told the court, is a serial offender who is currently on bail for similar offences and has re-offended. He has matters in court for October 17, 2016, November 18, 2016 and December 6, 2016.

Powell told the court that the prosecution fears that if bail was granted, he would “again re-offend.”

But in his defense, Humphreys who was unrepresented, told the court that he was embarrassed by the matter.

“I am on drugs, crack cocaine. I am embarrassed, it is very difficult for me. Friends influence me, it is not easy,” he stated.

He said that if bail was granted to him, he would always appear as he always did for his other matter before the court.

But Magistrate Williams told him that the court had trusted him before.

“You have failed the system, plus you are on drugs from your own admission and you are easily influenced by friends…bail is denied,” she stated.

The prosecution also told the court that Harris was a “flight risk” since he resides in Guadeloupe and only came to Dominica for the funeral of his father a month ago.

Harris, however, defended himself stoutly, saying that he resides in Dominica and had only been to Guadeloupe for three weeks before his father’s death.

He then gave several conflicting versions of his Guadeloupe trips prompting the Magistrate to tell him that “you are not consistent with what you are telling the court. You have strong ties in Guadeloupe and are clearly a flight risk, bail is denied.”

The matter is set to be heard on December 12, 2016.

dominica has a very serious problem among it’s people,,and a lot of people do not recognize that, and that is education levels, most of these brothers level of education attained is like primary school levels and then they drop out, then the next level of education comes from the streets of which they graduate in gaudeloupe, the government and the ministery of education can solve that problem, the alternate to grammatical education is skills training, make use of the Chinese hand outs, china is a place that is steep in skill training,,instead of Chinese head structures on our bridges, which by the way looks rather disgusting seeing we are not Chinese people, let these people if they are willing to help us,do more positive things, because thieves running around and gun crimes starting to pick up speed, their should be an all out effort on security before it gets worse than that.

Magistrate Williams has shown wisdom in denying bail to these two men.

Besides the fact that she is sending the right message to other would be offenders the evidence shows bail does not work well for Darrel Humphreys. He was on bail when he committed this crime. Here in Canada we find that it is common for criminals to re-offend while thy are on bail. Not only that but often the repeat crime is of a very serious nature.

Humphreys is a cocaine user. Cocaine use alters the personality causing criminal behavior and often violent criminal behavior. Being out of prison is an opportunity to obtain cocaine (or any other drug).

While these men are incarcerated an evangelical chaplain or a prison ministry would meet with them and share the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ. We know of inmates who have been completely transformed by receiving Christ as their Lord and Savior while they were in prison.

    Sincerely, Donald Hill. Evangelist.

These guys must be crazy to try to think they could have got away with this crime. Every inch of Miniya’s 7-11 is covered with CCTV with motion detection. A cockroach couldn’t even move inside there after hours without it being detected!

Shows the Cameras worked this time. better to have them working than ignore where we are in 2016. A work in progress.

Good that they were not granted bail and for a serial offender, out on bail who has matters before the Court. You expect to be granted bail again? You want your freedom then live a law-abiding life.
Humphreys says he is embarrassed. He is on drugs and through the influence of friends. Since he knows that, he should do something to help himself and stay away from drugs and those people. Bad company corrupts.
Rehabilitate yourself with the help of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Mighty Healer. He cannot do it on his own.
Harris was residing in Guadeloupe. He was in D/ca for his father’s funeral and he robbed the store. He must have been stealing for a while. Some of them are not caught. These are the unsolved criminal cases. The saying: “A thief is never a thief until he is caught.”
No bail for them. Let them learn a good lesson in prison. While in prison provide counseling for them that they may have a change of heart from their criminal habit.

“Rehabilitate yourself with the help of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Mighty Healer.”

Yes, Christ will break the chains of sin’s bondage in your life and set you free!

HE is willing to help all those who seek Him. It is written:

“…Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. …” (Acts 16:31)

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

BELIEVE that Christ died for yours sins and that He rose again the third day” as the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4.

Then CALL upon Him by prayer asking Him to come into your heart and be your personal Savior as He Himself tells us to do in Revelation 3:20.

Please find these verses in your Bible and read them for yourself! Believe them! Then you will be able to tell people “I AM SAVED”. How could a person dare to say that? You can say it because God says so!

      God said it :!:
      I believe it :!:
      That settles it :!:

        Continuation:

Donald Hill. Evangelist. (A teller of good news.)

Prisons do not usually have great success rehabilitating criminals. But in the USA there are prisons that have adopted a faith approach to rehabilitating law breakers. They have started using evangelical chaplains and prisons ministries to conduct chapel services and one-on-one contact with the inmates. Their strategy is to give them the good news that Christ paid the penalty for their sins on the cross. They explain that sinners will be forgiven and delivered if they will BELIEVE this, and RECEIVE Christ as their Savior. It works! It brings a whole new beginning to those who accept it.

        The Bible says:

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold all things are become new. And all things are of God, …” (2 Corinthians 5:17,18)

When inmates take this step of faith they are taught step by step how to live a victorious Christian life.

        Sincerely, Rev…

SMH, Some might say, Poor feller, he is sick, and needs assistance, and jail is not the place for him. I beg to differ, apparently, by his own admission he is a serial Burglar.

You such a handsome man that is what you decide to do with your life? You did not pick your friends right and don’t call them friends they are your enemy ,friends don’t bring you down the bring you up. The minute you see they were leading you the wrong path you should walk and never look back.
Maybe you might not read my comment I don’t think you allow technology in prison.lol

    We need a rehab.

    • September 3, 2016

What we really need is churches that preach the full gospel with signs following: churches with services that produce changed lives.

We need pastors with a deliverance ministry. Some of the people in prisons and rehabs need to be set free by the merits of Jesus blood, and the power of His name! All some of them need is a demon cast out and they would be as normal as anybody else.

When was the last time you attended a service in a church where demons crying with loud voices came out of these who were possessed :?:

What is needed today is a revival of first century New Testament Christianity. So many have a form of godliness but they deny the power thereof. Yet it is the only thing that will meet the deepest needs of the human heart.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.
