Two released on bail in relation to last week’s firearm, ammo and drug bust

Kendy Esprit and Jerry Maximea of Campbell have been released on $300,000 bail each today. Last week, the men pleaded not guilty to the cultivation and possession of cannabis, a firearm and ammunition.

The duo, who were remanded pending surety for bail, were jointly charged with Daryl James who was sentenced to pay $500,000 forthwith or would face two and a half years in prison after he pleaded guilty to the crimes on Friday. He is now a prisoner at the Dominica State Prison.

Bail was initially set for $400,000 for Esprit and Maximea but Magistrate Candia George reduced it to $300,000 today following a plea from their lawyer.

Esprit received bailed with three sureties while two stood for Maximea. Bail conditions for the two men were similar. These terms include that they are to report on Mondays to the Mahaut police station.

Another condition of their bail is that they do not get into any further trouble with the law. Trial will begin on May 5 in St Joseph.

Last week, family members for the accused men consoled each other and burst into tears watching three of their relatives being carried off to the Dominica State Prison.

Today, these relatives welcomed the released men with tears of joy outside the courtroom.

James, in addition to the mentioned sentence, was also ordered to pay $4,000 forthwith on each firearm-related charge or he spends one year in prison in default of each payment. Sentences are to run concurrently.

According to Police Spokesman Inspector Claude Weekes, the men were allegedly spotted in the heights of Sylvania last week during a routine police (drug squad) bush patrol in the area. Esprit and Maximea were able to escape but James was caught in his garden where thousands of fully grown cannabis trees were seen.

Esprit and Maximea were subsequently arrested.

Weekes said the firearm in question was a 12 gauge shot gun and six live rounds of 12 gauge ammunition.

The police public relations officer said that none of the defendants were authorized to have the firearm or ammunition. The gun was not licensed either, he said.

Weekes took the opportunity to state that police will spare no efforts in minimizing the use of illegal drugs in the community.

“So police continue to fight drugs because we know the destruction, the economic cost…the social costs, psychological costs and we spare no effort, we have a mandate, we will fulfill it,” he stated.

The future of these fines as no one can pay them will of course become a war on drugs. Our resources will be further stretched thin fighting the worlds most dangerous marijuana HERB PLANT and thousands of Dominicans will die as a result of them adopting the zero tolerance policy to the “drug” but pupa C from Venezuela and his buddies in Columbia will continue to pump cocaine into Dominica unaffected creating more zombies on the street and a greater backlash from IMF and other debtors when they no longer want us to remain in bed with the socialists because we cannot control the coke flow.

To the soldiers carrying guns thinking we scared doh make me dig up mine, u better watch where u pointing yours, there’s a big difference between a warrior and a war monger, you have guns to protect urselves from innocent civilians with no money or weapons? As though people care about Easy”back”door and their dirty ways. God/JAH/ALLAH/JEHOVA will overcome them!

God Help us under this third world British Colonialsm rule. We brought to Dominica as slaves, worked hard to develop the British Empire, when Slavery was abolished they gave us the Island back with nothing, and told us we were now “Independent”. We still allowed them to write our laws which are seemingly designed to imprison our own people over ignorance. It seems Murder is a more prefered crime than the involvement of Marijuanna under this legal system.

      YOU SAID IT BROTHER!

Removed the shackles from our hands and feet and put them on the foolish magistrates brains. Look @ me massa, I made it, I’m a judge, you have to accept me, I’m somebody!

Even though I’m throwing away Dominica’s future, I mean, its not like the children are tomorrow’s leaders or anything. The children of these judges have the wrath to face of the tyranny their parents have helped to foster……

why was the lawyer (Isidore) who was accused of bigger crime not treated in that same manner? Why was heot arrested and bailed like all poor Dominican’s? We cannot have one law for the poor and another law for the rich simply because they influence our politics.Let justice reign
