UPDATE: Police seize 30 kilos of cocaine; four in custody

Drug bust GuadeloupeFour people are in police custody following a drug bust which occurred in the Dos Dane area at about 4:30 pm on Sunday.

Two of the men are employed by the government of Dominica, according to police Inspector Richmond Valentine.

Thirty kilos of cocaine and three vehicles were seized.

All four men are assisting the police in their investigations.

The men have not been identified since they have not been charged with any crime.

Investigations continue, according to Inspector Valentine.

although this is a serious matter, drug is not only an issue in DA but around the world, it has always been and will continue to be. Am i against it? hell yes but what can we do to stop it? Economy is in a terrible crisis, parents have no time to spend with their children to educate them properly any more because the cost of living has increase so much. so while parents are busy working 2 and 3 jobs to make ends meet our children are left to fetch for themselves and those that we expect to carry out the examples are doing worst than we could ever imagine because even with some them working the salary is so poor it cannot half of the bills. So here is a suggestion, live according to your resources, don’t hang ur hat where u cannot reach, stop wanting what u see everyone have and be content with what u do have, i your salary is 1000$ don’t go looking apartment for 600 and so forth….etc

Good afternoon sweet Dominica. Well I want to congratulate our Police Officers for doing a good job in recovering this drug and preventing it from reaching our citizens. The article said that two of the men are employed by the Government and I hope that the Police find our how they brought this drug to our country. I hope the Courts do not give them bail or they set bail so high that they won’t be able to make bail. Now it seems like our country is a transit point for drugs to Europe or America therefore our Officers must be cognizant of that and they must double their efforts to stop this because we don’t produce this type of drugs in Dominica. The two Government employees must be fired and I hope the positions goes to two young people who are qualified for the positions.

      July 17, 2013

Really? Do not give them bail? Did they murder anybody and even if they committed murder they would still have to grant them bail. What planet are you from? SMDH

      • July 18, 2013

Hello. You don’t understand how the Criminal Justice System works. The Attorneys try to convince the Judge that She/He must grant bail to their client/defendant but the judge must weigh the circumstance, ect Witness Tampering/destruction of evidence and potential of flight therefore its up to the Judge to grant bail after a careful consideration. No defendant have to or is automatically granted bail. We don’t know how long they have being peddling this cocaine/poison to our citizens but we know some of our citizens have died from drug overdose therefore we can safely assume that they have contributed to the death of our citizens. I hope they don’t peddle their poison to your family . I am from planet earth and I will always have the best interest of my people in my heart.

so it is ehh. One Sunday afternoon I had to take a second look at the police station. you wanna know what I saw? I thought the PHQ was a band house or some place where musical instruments was being held because I saw this police man walking out with his Guitar case. Now I know musicians and I know what a guitar in a guitar case looks like, that was no guitar. I wonder what it was hmm. The man had his shades, he looked neither left nor right, he walked straight down and bend on one of the streets lower down. unno the sad thing about it, when I thought is me alone dat notice, here sits this lil old man on the side of me saying “that not a guitar, these young men will get themselves in trouble”. my mouth dropped. *shivers* The world wont change, we can complain all we want but I wont change. truth be told.

I don’t think the person was minding people business. Sometimes, somethings flash before your eyes and with your common sense you will pick up what is happening. I am happy that this person noticed what was going on. Police have an investigating unit on people so I think the people should have an investigating unit on them too.

We see and are quite content that the DPF has been making a huge dent into the drug trade. Pounds by there kilograms over there!!! great job.. However the concern will remain that there need to be a better system of disposal of all these drugs. In this day and time you cannot just heap the drugs and put fire to it in open air. Why does the DPF not invest in a a blast furnance and set up a controlled environment for the disposal of such poisonous substances. People of Kingshill, Morne Bruce and the surrounding environs tired of breathing that poison when DFP burning that on top of the hill.

The Police didn’t waste ‘their time, gas & energy and whatever else.’ They did what is supposed to be done. It’s the justice system that can sometimes be a ‘waste of time’ as regards the punishment handed out for crimes committed.

Hello beatiful people from Dominica. My family was very poor and I studied with sacrifice, sometime we didn’t had food and no money, but never we made a bad things. People say no to easy life, which is not easy because only bring damnation for the person and country. I love Dominica, but Im not from Dominica, say no to the curse drug. God bless to the people that love the peace and never try to distroy your people and your country, say no to the course drugs ans sins.

  27. July 15, 2013

Folks please take a moment to put intellect before emotions and you will realize that this drug trafficking issue is NOT new and that there are underlying issues that will cause it to continue. The fact that poverty increases crime cannot be dismissed. Rejoicing now at a drug bust of thirty kilos says nothing about the 300 kilos that may have just passed thru our shores en route to Europe and the United States. It’s indeed very sad, but we have no idea how truly big this thing is and how far up the corruption goes. Dominica is opening its shores and borders to too much and, trust me, there is MUCH WORSE coming

I agree with your comment and applaud the police for their good works but to be honest these drug dealers don’t do prison time u will more find a little man on the street goin to jail for a bud or what ever they call it its time the state put these men behind bars for a while and stop charging them money for the drugs. If they are put away that’s one less drug dealer to deal with. The state needs to stop thinking of making money out of these people and actually remove them from society. So really when u look at it its the courts that’s messed up.

madam, do not be a fool, do not put your hand in fire for no POLICE, I know that there are a few good ones, exceptionally great guys in the force and if you know your husband no one can blame you but we are living in a time when con-men and thieves and vagabonds and fagits and big drug dealers are being enlisted in the service. Police are afraid to fight drugs because when you fight drugs they fight you back. I have a friend who is the perfect example of that.

Its a shame that you can beat you chest and say that you have your friend’s back, but can you honestlty say that your friend has your back.. these are the questions that some police officers should ask themself.

A few good police officers need to stand out and speak against the ills, are there any brave ones left?

People like you that give police a bad name. My husband is a cop as well and he works in one of worst areas
In Dominica, my husband is also a farmer he have to do that to pay our kids college, he would never compromise his intergrity, we are living hand to mouth like many civil servants
So when you talking about police need to do whatever to survive talk for yourself.
Not for those officers out there trying to make a honest living.and trust me we still have dedicated officers, give them their dues.

      • July 16, 2013

        Gabbrielle.

Hello I agree with most of what you say except for the last sentence,”if Police have to sell drugs to servive so be it”. Any Officer who does that should be arrested and punished. Officers took an oath to serve our country and if he/she crossed that line and engaged in such criminal behavior then our citizens will only suffer.

    • Big up
      July 15, 2013

@ Ebeh….The point you are making is unfounded and illogical to the news item. Your baseless accusations at the Officer is unwarranted. A drug bust at Portsmouth has nothing to do with the Officer and his Kia farless his home. If you have any information that the authorities do not have about the man and how he was able to drive a Kia and build a home, I strongly suggest you tender your evidence or keep your damn shut! article/item.

If they are unemployed and must pay especially an exorbitant fine and they do, the Court should enquire how they obtained the money.
The Court is aware that they are unemployed. Therefore, the onus is on the Court to ensure that they do not pay the fine with illegal money.
This is why they should be imprisoned for, how could they pay a fine when they are unemployed? Who will take the chance to give them the money or loan it to them knowing they are unemployed and will not be able to repay them?

Focus on the real problems and work to find solutions that will be effective, after all I think we all know that the deaths, violent crime, guns etc are not affiliated with marijuana.
