A blogger who posted an erroneous claim that dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel, had pulled off a dramatic escape from the New Horizon Adult Remand Centre, has confessed that it was a prank.
The hoax was posted on the website www.hypelife.com and went viral on social networks such as Facebook and twitter and was picked up by several leading news websites, some of whom have backtracked on the story after reading an Observer article which quoted Jamaican police stating that news of a jail break was a rumour.

I agree with you that Kartel makes stupid, senseless, pointless songs. However – i do not see why judging someone who sings his tunes so harshly. It’s like judging a Tripple K of CK fan who sings the stupid trashy songs they make…
Dominica has some trashy songsters too – when i went to vacation i heard a song about being up in a “sous”… about open wide, i’m a dentist…how about “wood it”\
Its all the same thing – GARBAGE.
However, i do agree that these songs are catchy – one many not know all the lyrics – but sometimes I have found myself, while on vacation, singing these songs, chorus’, in my head.
That doesn’t change who I am – you hear these songs all over- radio, tv, clubs… it’s when someone becomes obsessed with the stupid things advised in the song, then I have there’s a problem.
Sometimes – it’s just foolishness on the part of the young ppl – some like the nasty lyrics, the rhythm…some may not even understand what they are repeating…
Me myself – as a young woman – i love Reggae, i love Dancehall – i’ll find myself busting a Kartel tune on my way home..in the privacy of my car – but you won’t hear me singing that in public or rating his music.
He has some good music, but since fame has gone to his head, he’s become just another one lost.
