The management and staff of Road Runner Car Rentals, located in Canefield, are expressing concerns following the theft of one of the company’s vehicles in Soufriere.
Secretary of the company told Dominica News Online (DNO) on Tuesday that a Toyota RAV4 Registration number TL192 and white in colour was reported stolen on Sunday.
She said the vehicle was rented out to a man and a woman ‘two of three days’ ago and has a purple and pink RAV4 design on both front doors
“The vehicle was stolen in Soufriere on Sunday night close to a guest house in that area,” the secretary, who preferred not to used her name, said.
She revealed that “it is not a usual thing” for vehicles to be stolen from the company.
She stated further that the police have already been contacted and they are investigating the matter.
Anyone with information in relations to the stolen vehicle can contact the nearest police station or company numbers 275-5337, 235-2952 or 440-2952.
Recently police PRO, Assistant Superintendent, Claude Weekes told DNO that car theft is becoming a cause for concern.
“It looks like it’s getting commonplace now,” he said.
The management and staff of Road Runner would like to thank the public for their assistance. It was greatly appreciated. The stolen vehicle has been recovered.
I hope the vehicle was locked. If it was locked, it would take an expert to unlock it. These days with TV and Internet, they learn about these thievery matters.
I hope the thief is caught with the vehicle and soon and that the vehicle is not damaged.
Find the vehicle? They will be lucky. I bet that thing stolen for parts because they are too damn expensive in Dominica. They take a car and brake it up in no time. Wait and see.
Today I spoke to a fellow D/can about this theft. I said the same, that they stole it and will use the parts. I have heard this has occurred in D/ca.
It is disappointing and sad though that they would do this to their fellow people. It is theft and we do know God’s Commandment: “Thou Shalt Not Steal.”
It is also for this reason why insurance costs escalate. Policy holders are the ones who pay for it through increased costs,
I expect the vehicle owner has insurance coverage. The insurance company will eventually compensate him.
Strange, having stated that, the thought is crossing my mind: “I hope it was not a staged theft.”
In case you don’t know, there are plenty of guys on this island that can open a locked vehicle and even start some of them with a screwdriver or similar key. For every stolen vehicle article that is published in DNO, there are probably at least 20 other stolen vehicles that do not receive press. This is not a small problem.
I did not give it a thought. I did not consider that D/ca would have so many of them. Some people are real thieves.
Vehicles are not safe in D/ca, even though locked.
As the thought ran across my mind, this makes me smile: “If they expect their vehicle to be safe, they may have to bless them with Holy Water.” It may work. This may be their only hope.
Strange things happen; many in this City; never a dull moment; sometimes surprising and shocking.
I heard on the Toronto News that a couple inadvertently shut their car door with the keys inside including their young children. Really absentminded. I wonder what was on their mind.
They reported it to the police who arrived but were unable to unlock the door. The only alternative was to break open the car window which they were about to do when a vehicle mover came on the scene and the driver opened the door with a key.
These people know their job. Is it any wonder that there are also similar thefts in this city. Some people were trained and were employed by these enterprises. They learned how to open vehicles and drive off with them.
Some vehicles are stolen and sent abroad for sale.
Should anyone try to sell car parts to others in D/ca, they should refuse to purchase them.
I do not condone an crime in any shape or form but if the police want help from the public the public also will need help from the police or the gov’t ,,,put some money out to any one in the public who will give the right information..i personally will never help the police because i have no guarantee that the police will protect me ;sometimes police are criminals also and when ever there is a traitor in the police force the public should think twice…
It’s summer time and the thugs wants to go joy ridding. Am urging the general public to becareful with their vehicles!!!
Summertime in Dominica? What else is new? Do not make me laugh.
As if Dominica has four seasons, spring, summer, autumn (fall – when the leaves on the trees fall, indicating winter is near) and winter.
Keep an eye out for an armed robbery somewhere with the stolen vehicle. Be vigilant, my people.
“It’s becoming a cause for concern?” It has been a concern for some time now. Too many thieves and it is getting worse. People can’ t leave your vehicle alone. Always plotting to take something that belongs to someone else. The have-nots figure that they will-have…….one way or another at someone else’s expense. They probably took that vehicle from a visitor. Great PR for the island.
