A Venezuelan, Simon Gomez who entered Dominica illegally, has been fined EC$1,000 forthwith after which he is to be deported to his homeland.
However his deportation will be at the expense of the state since he told the police that he has “no money and or travel documents and came to Dominica to work.”
Reports are that on November 14 the police had gone to the home of another Venezuelan to execute a search warrant and found Gomez there.
When questioned, Gomez gave his correct name but told police that he was from Guyana and he had entered Dominica a few weeks ago via a fishing boat.
His lawyer, Wayne Norde, begged the court not to impose a custodial sentence on his client since “he did not even have a dollar to buy water.”
The maximum penalty is EC$5,000 or one year jail. Magistrate Ossie Lewis said he had to send a clear message to persons wanting to enter Dominica that they should do so via “legal means”.
He was slapped with the $1,000 fine and was ordered to be deported.
Was he on the Government Payroll?
I wonder how he afford that expensive lawyer
But i heard Chinese taking over D/A.
Toni, I am sending you this meesage don’t leave your Island.and overstay in a next man land. how many dominican in people country living illegal, some of them even commiting crime, and bold face too. some get depoted. no one there treat them bad. lord he come to look for work. don’t jail him because he don’t have a ticket. give him a year to work and fine his ticket. If he get favour to be documented then leave him.Remember your country people are all over the world not all are documented. don’t have a hard heart toward illegal. Hi I am from here.
The Police and law enforcement are not stupid. You have no clue of what was doing here and who was affiliated with.
Duh …There are more, it’s only one thing they are in Dominica for, blend-in and pickup money, from sales of …you know what. Not here to find a job like our Haitian brothers.
i agree pappy. we working hard but they do alot of illegal things here and the Dominican people know too.we struggle every day but they like easy money.
If Chavez was alive, this man would not be deported because Skeritt would have to please daddy chavez.
it cost more to deport him than the $1000 fine. THe least the magistrate could do was fine him the amount it would cost to be deported
The person he was working with can easily pay the amount. That’s chicken feed for them.
How is he paying his lawyer. Something fishy.
Dominicians have the most eligal people liveing all over the caribbean trying to make a better life and they a not coming back home ,so why when some one do it in da you people talking like Dominican people is diffrent.
AgREE
Dominicans illegal all over, but we have so much to say when it happens in our country.. BOI every country out there should send all illegal Dominicans home and then we will see if Dominica has jobs to accommodate them….
well said!!!!!!!!!!!!
How is he (Gomez) going back to his Country? on a fishing boat or on a plane? More tax payers money down the drain. He’ll be back. Some Dominican woman will send for him to marry – a lazy one.
but this is not sending a message if 5000 is the max he should be given the max and when he cnt afford his ticket home he should be inprisoned until the fun can be alocated …do like Antigua jail them till them find their ticket state should not be paying a dim better things to do with that money ….and immigration nooed to check how many more here illigal
Being illegal in a country is what Dominicans do. I know the law is the law, but we must pick our battles. Don’t you think the USa and Canada and other Caribbean Countries know of the Illegal Dominicans? They do, but they don’t go looking unless a crime is committed.
Law is law, but illegal immigrants work hard. Every dominican has a relative in USA “bossing there tail” illegally.
What if USA would deport them all?
We need to pick our battles…
Its costing the STATE more money now… What message is that? The only message is, try again, if you get caught at least you’ll fly home in style.. lol
DNO put his Photo up for all to see him
Allu like to much case!!
It is about time the Dominican government , and the immigration department do there job, and get the lead of there gludiusmaximus, this man is not the only one in Dominica illegally, the Haitians the Dominican republican, chines, the true Dominicans are an endangers species, pretty soon there wont be any real, or true Dominicans. every other country in the world send those illegals back to there home country, why cant we do the same,D.A. is a small country why cant we track them down, after they over stay there welcome?, create a task force with the new police officers I saw walking around Roseau four in a group without a senior officer to guide them they look like they dont have clue of what to do. have them go find those illegals, and send them back to there home country.
They should charge the person whom he was living with with the cost of gettign him his ticket home
let them be responsible when they choose to encourage these things
I’m with you on that. We Dominicans are an endangered species. They are preserving the Animals that are endangered; Who is preserving and protecting us? Not skerritt for sure
.
What they should do is send all of your family that in America Canada, Uk and guadeloupe that sending barrel and money gram for you they should send them home to.. Ungrateful!! what the hell is a true Dominican?
You should suggest that to ALL other countries where DOMINICANS reside illegally too! Then I’ll know you mean business!
Since “he did not even have a dollar to buy water” how is he paying tor the $1,000 fine?
So why is the State that have go pay?? What happen to de Venezuelan Embassy they have dere?
But how is|mister going to pay a $1,000 fine when he does not have a cent and govt. has to pay to fly him back to Venezuela? Why not make him work firs, even cleaning the road.
