Dominican pleads guilty to burglary in Tortola

Vernon Bernard resides in BVI, Tortola

BVI NEWS ONLINE: Dominican Vernon Bernard, one of the individuals fingered in the break-in of the Road Town Police Station, pleaded guilty to one count of burglary and has to return to the High Court on March 31 for sentencing. .

During his last court appearance it was revealed that his indictment was not ready and his application for legal aid is still under review.

Bernard, 18, along with a 17-year-old was arrested in connection with an attempt to steal a motorbike from the Road Town Police Station in November of last year.

According to a police press release, during the wee hours of Saturday morning [November 28], an officer at the police station discovered one of the perpetrators with his face covered holding a bolt cutter on the premises, but the individual fled the scene as the officer sought assistance.

The release had further stated that preliminary investigations indicated that three perpetrators gained entry to the premises by cutting through the perimeter barrier in the back of the compound.

A fourth male remained in a get-away car.

The cutter and the get-a-way car used in the incident were recovered and analyzed by the Scene of Crime Unit.
