A video which purportedly shows Denny Shillingford shackled to a hospital bed has surfaced on social media.
The video was shot by SAT News.
Shillingford, who has confessed to firebombing the house of local attorney GON Emanuel, was shot in St. Joseph recently and has been hospitalized, according to police reports.
In the video, Shillingford said he was lying in the hospital when unidentified police officer “in military clothes” came in and told him he was under arrest.
Shillingford said the police officers never introduced themselves and they eventually began using indecent language.
He said he asked why he was being arrested.
“They said this is not for you to know,” Shillingford stated.
When he resisted being shackled to the bed, Shillingford alleged that one of the policeman slapped him behind the head ‘real hard.’
The reasons for his arrests are unknown and attempts to contact the police PRO on Thursday morning were unsuccessful.
In 2013, Shillingford was charged with arson in connection with the firebombing of Emanuel’s home which took place on Christmas morning in 2010.
Shillingford had confessed that he set the fire, claiming that he did so under the orders of Earl ‘Seko’ Grant.
He was serving time in prison on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm and was released earlier this year.

That piece of dirt should be serving life in prison for his crime . Why is he out to be even in Hospital , on a hospital bed?
People we are moving backwards in the Juridical system? this is 2014 make criminals pay for their crimes , let the world see that along with development , is crime control .

It was either one or the other. Either shackles or given a medication to stabilize him and keep him quiet. Giving medication of that sort could be taking a chance for it might not be safe and contribute to his demise.
If convicted criminals and hard-core ones at that are taken to the hospital, they could be shackled too.
When people are especially terminally sick and in extreme pain, their hands and feet could be tired to the bed to keep them quiet.
Therefore, some of you who say they should not do that, What suggestions do any of you have to keep this troublemaker calm and quiet?
As for those who brought the cigarettes and drugs to him at the hospital, they should be banned from visiting the room. They should also be arrested and charged fro breaching hospital rules and bringing in narcotics. Denny could burn the room and the hospital with cigarette. He needs a lighter for them.
I just want to say that ive been a patient at the hospital for my first time and i saw what nurses have to be hoing thru with patients and i can NEVER disrespect a nurse. Ppl like Denny dat have no respect for nurses have no heart and shud not be there in there first place! Prison should have their own hospital for these kind of vagrants. Our nurses need to be protected!

People have been saying that this man harasses nurses and smokes etc., which, don’t get me wrong is not morally acceptable by any means necessecary.
But that does not give the police the right to slap him behind his head! Secondly you cannot “arrest” somebody without telling them first the reason of the arrest.
The police around here need to lock back and come back if they want law enforcement to be run smoothly.

I am just so baffled at the way things are handled in Dominica. As a matter of fact its an embarrassment. The law needs to be updated, the prime minister and his team needs to step the hell up and pay attention to this madness. If someone commits a crime and is not proven guilty they should and must be treated with respect,why do the police feel the need to put their hands on the citizens in their custody,why aren’t Dominicans rallying against it and are they waiting to react only if something happens to one of their own. How can you cuff someone to a bed and not read them their rights and the charges they are facing. My my my I am truly embarrassed of this system
It is a pity to see how wicked my ppl can be when they are not involved. It doesn’t matter how he behaves in the ward.it is the duty of the hospital to restraint him. When people know you have nobody for you they tend to treat you like . Shame on the hospital for having a sick man all nude on one of their wards. If a prisoner is in shackles where is the officer guarding him? No one should be video taping this man if he is a prisoner of the state unless you a member of the police force. The law enforcement officers in Dominica really need to be trained.

Ok, say he is arrested for having confessed that he bombed Mr. GON Emmanuel’s house would be understandable. But then again he did not only confessed he did it but also gave names of those that planned the Christmas day fire attack, drove him to and from the sight and paid him to commit the crime. Are they also arrested? I mean Ben Ladin was not on either of the 911 planes and DID NOT fly any of the planes to the WTC or other buildings. Yes, he has a mouth and they cannot prevent him from using it and also swearing at them. If he is without a shackle (not endorsing this), he could create a disturbance and harm others.
Dno viewers please don’t make Denny shillingford manipulate and lie to y’all OK. I am a nurse and I work on Alford ward where Denny is being nursed. Denny is smoking marijuana and cigarette on the ward even after being spoken to by the doctors and the nurses he still continued so we called the police. 4 police officers came from CID to make a search last week Friday night and he held his urinal full if urine and sputum to dash on them so they left without doing any search. He still continued smoking his drugs on the ward without a care in the world. On Monday night he threatened a nurse just because she told him lower his music and pulled the screen around his bed so the nurse called the police again, this time they did the search but found nothing because he hid the drugs in his pants by his penis. Denny is just looking for attention. And the real reason they arrested him is because he threw urine on a police officer and cursed them down to the T. So Denny is a threat to the co-patients, nurses/doctors giving him care and to the visitors as we’ll.

Doctors, nurses and others have to put up with a lot. This must be the first time you experienced such erratic behavior from a patient. He obeys no one in authority. He makes a bad and dangerous patient. Denny has acted worst than a child. He does not know what is good for him.

Denny Shillingford is known a s repeat offender but this does not explain how he could possibly be shackled to a hospital bed, ostensibly by personnel of the SSU, without having been charged by the police.
– he should instruct his lawyer to serve the police with a writ for “habeas corpus” and infringement of his basic rights under the constitution.

then the hospital admin should report this incident to the police if they were not police officers. I wonder if they did? what if there is an emergency at the ward and patients need to evacuate who has the keys to the cuffs/OMG what confusion we are in.
if they were not police officers was the matter then reported to the police by the hospital administrators- the nurses when making there rounds would have notice the cuffs on – so thats not an excuse – if there is an emergency at the ward who is responsible to un cuff him so that he can get out….emmmmh.
