UPDATE: Woman killed in Giraudel

Marvlyn Robinson

While the rest of Dominica celebrates Independence tragedy has struck in the village of Giraudel.

According to reports reaching Dominica News Online (DNO), a woman was killed in the village early Saturday morning.

She has been identified as 75-year-old Marvlyn Robinson.

A well placed source in Giraudel told Dominica News Online that Robinson’s home was broken into some time aback and jewelry stolen. Arrests have been made in connection with that matter and it is now before the court.

The source said Robinson was the one who actually called a friend to say that she was being attacked and the police should be called. The friend was too distraught to talk to Dominica News Online when contacted.

The reports indicate that Robinson was stabbed several times by her attackers.

She reportedly died on the way to hospital.

The source said the village is now in a state of shock from the senseless killing. According to the source, Robinson was well known for her cultural enthusiasm. “Her wob dwiyet is still on her bed for Independence Day,” the source told DNO.

Robinson reportedly lived alone.

Thanks to everyone for the good support and wonderful comments, am so saddened and sickened by the death of my dearest friend, i just visited Dominica on vacation, and it was so grusome to find my friend in that situation in the pool of blood, lord help our country, I did not enjoy my vacation,i did by best to assit, during her odeal she ask for some water, she know she was going home.Concerning the killers i dont think they have the right to continue life, they need to be laid to rest. This Lady suffered punctured knife wounds for innocent reason,it burns my heart especially seeing her in that torture, I was born in Dominica and today this is not the peaceful country that i know, am scared to return there, the death penalty is still in the books and it needs to be re-enforce.

Dominicans are a confused people. Under Tiyani this thug or these thugs would never be out on bail, if what i am reading is true. But some of those commenting are the very ones who followed their corrupt masters to gnag up against Tiyani. No wonder we cannot make progress as a nation, because we accept too much rubbish from clueless, inept, lazy, and incompetent leaders, untill it comes back to bite our butt, and then we begin to ‘DAY PARLAY’…The rubbish, poo poo, crap, koshonyee, karkar, zordis, zar gway from our leaders is Dominicas biggest enemy. Many of you commenting knows that there is a very high probability that NOTHING will happen to the accuse or accused ones. SOO TE WER is some Dominicans greatest bliss.
Having said that i condemn this dastardly act, by this or these cowards, and i would like to appeal to those who can make our legal system bite to do something for us please.

Crimes! Crimes! Crimes in Dominica! Murders! Murders! Murders in Dominica, our beautiful island and supposedly a safe one. Let us not downplay them. They are escalating. It is shocking! How can Dominicans feel protected and safe in their own country and free of fear of their very own nationals who commit crimes/murders? When will they end for good? Lord, please help!
Dominican government please put a hand and try to eliminate these atrocities which are committed against nationals and which affect the DA economy, starting with the Court System and bailing procedures.

    Those perpetrators should know:

    1. They have no right to trespass on another’s property. Their intention was to steal and murder. These are crimes against the victim, Dominica, the State and nationals, wherever they reside in the world for we are all Dominicans by birthright. We should support each other.
    2. They had no right to steal the property of another. This is a crime.
    3. They had no right to commit murder; to murder the owner of the property; no right to murder whatsoever. They have taken a life of another.
Due to their avarice, envy of one’s property and wickedness of heart, they have murdered a fellow Dominican and placed much grief on her family also including Dominican residents.
We are to preserve life and not take a life – of innocent, law-abiding nationals. A life cannot be replaced. They want to live yet will not allow another to live. At this point, they do not deserve to live. They do not deserve to enjoy the freedom that Dominica affords and to be out in the public domain. Woe to them!
Those crimes are three serious offenses, the latter, murder is the most grievous one, taking a God-given precious life; depriving her of her life and depriving her family of her life, her love and companionship. They projected that they hated the victim and did not want her to live. There is no excuse for this type of trespassing, theft and murder.
Dominica is our country too. We are upset what criminals/murderers are doing to our country. They have depicted that they do not even love their (our) country and nationals. They have done grave harm to Dominica and its reputation. As news also spread internationally, how will this reflect on Dominica? We do know.
Investors will be wary to invest in Dominica. Visitors also including fellow Dominicans will stay away from Dominica. All will surely fear visiting and/or returning to Dominica for it is regarded unsafe to visit, to invest and to retire. We never know when and where criminals/murderers will strike.
Dominican nationals abroad who wish to retire in DA are also shocked by those atrocities. They are disappointing and discouraging to the point of deciding not to visit or to retire in Dominica. In many respects, note the harm that those criminals/murderers have done to their very own country and nationals. They lack patriotism.
I hope the magistrate/judge takes note of this and also the outcry and comments of Dominican nationals both near and far. Once and for all, for God’s sake, that of the victim’s family and that of nationals, let the punishment fit the crime.
Law-abiding Dominican national residents of all are fed-up that such people are granted bail and without a nightly curfew and some of them are acquitted, only to re-offend in a worst manner. It is harmful to Dominica and nationals. When will this type of jurisdiction and judgment cease?

I heard that these killers were out on bail for breaking into the lady’s house, now that the matter is going to court, they chose to kill her? I hope that we reconsider this bail issue.

That man is truly a creep. He was angry with her because of his court case. He had the nerve to return to the house. He is a big time fool. He committed a crime. He should wait for the court case to be called. Fool that he was he returned to the house and murdered her? What did she do to him to deserve what he did to her? He is in worst trouble. I pray that he remains in prison for the rest of his life. He should really remain in prison. I have confident that he will not be released. Let us wait to hear and see.

She was a real cultural enthusiast and had a passion for the wob dwiyet that she judged at the shows, recently she judged at the Madam Wob dwiyet show. I will always remember her for the advice she gave me on wearing the dwiyet and the correct material to buy for making it . I recall those days when Marvlyn resided in Dominica and she sewed in a room at the back of the store. Her mother and herself had a store on the ground floor of their home. They sold sewing paraphernalia. Marvlyn had a flair for fashion since then and previously. How sad I am that she will no longer give such advice. RIP Marvlyn.

I knew this lady and i admired her. It is not because of who she was it is just ONE TO MANY MURDERS.
The policy makers, law enforcement and the Government needs to go back to the drawing board and make some amendments to the LAWS OF DOMINICA (THE DRL OF 1990).

Over the past ten years too many murderers have walked freely leaving families to grieve with out any justice.

    I SAY BRING BACK HANGING!

OUR LAND IS NO LONGER PEACEFUL AND SAFE.

TOO MANY LAWYERS FIGHTING TO PROTECT CRIMINALS.

Please MR prime minister our lovely island is falling apart PLEASE DO SOMETHING BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

Slow torture and eventually the death penalty for these devils. We should start up a petition for this, they need to be stopped and quickly. You see how the lady was murdered? If the criminal is caught and brought before the court and found guilty and is sentence to be hanged.Just watch and see how many people that will call the radio and write on DNO saying God say.
    “Thou shall not kill”
Although it should be NOT MURDER.Anyway such people are willfully ignorant.Because God was and is still telling the would be murderer don’t do it.
They will argue “It is inhumane to hang the person who murdered Marvlyn Robinson”.I will answer was it humane for her?
Again “It is too barbaric” to hang.My question is was it civilize to take Marvlyn’s life?.
The so-called experts will say, The death penalty dose not deter crime.Friends if I have to choose between the so-called xperts and God.I will cast my lot with God.Because God have spoken “Anyone who commits murder should be put to death (by the authorities), so that others may fear. And remember My God Maketh No Mistake.

      @ J.J.John-Charles

I endorse what you stated. Only yesterday, Saturday prior to hearing of what occurred to dear Marvlyn, I heard on the U.S. Catholic Radio that ‘execution will not deter crimes’, words to that effect. Know that it is not a Dogma of the Church. Therefore, I am free to agree and disagree on this one. I am a Catholic and personally, I disagree. I am certain there are other Catholics who disagree. I am all for, let the punishment fit the crime and by all means, execute them.
Recall what Our Lord Jesus Christ said about those who cause a little child to sin: “It is better that a millstone be hung around their necks and they be thrown into the deep sea.”
As far as I am concerned, those who murdered in cold blood, they knew what they were up to and planned. It was premeditated murder; others who murder in other ways, all of them should be hanged/executed. Yes! They have forfeited their right, their freedom and their life.
Sometime ago I also heard on Catholic Radio that, those who are on death row are useless to society. I made a note of it. This means, they should be executed, get it over and done with.
Another reason for not executing them, a few, at least, may be wrongfully convicted and executed. You know, this has happened. This may be the reason why some people do not endorse hanging/ execution. There are pros and cons of this debate as with other debates.

I am often hesitant to respond to these things, but I have to ask the bible thumpers on DNO that feel the need to inject God into everything, “Was God no there when this woman was being stabbed? And if yes, why not intervene at that time?” And more food for thought, if you believe that everyone dies when it’s “their time” – when God says it’s time to go – then this murderer was actually doing God’s will. No?

My sincere condolences to the family.

  47. Reflection
    November 4, 2012

I did not know this woman but this is another wake up call for women living alone. ARM yourselves with whatever is available! Do what you have to do when under attack and teach attackers and their families lifelong lessons. Some of these attackers’ families like to come and cry later and paint the criminals as victims.

And, many Dominicans love to sympathasize with criminals once the shock has worn off. Justice is not swift and criminals seem to end off free after a while and even made into victims. THIS IS NOT FAIR! Whoever is responsible for killing this woman should be tried in the Court and executed within this month. Whatever happened to crime and punishment? What will the society become in ten years if all these criminals are allowed to do these crimes and wave to cameras while going back and forth to Court with no justice??

What is Government’s policy on vile and violent crime?? At the next general election, vote for whichever party is serious about fighting crime on this beautiful island! Vote for whichever group can make the tough decisions to deal with criminals even if its their own family members or friends. Let a low crime rate be a big deal for you at the next general elections.

No one deserves to die that way and for their own belongings for which they worked hard. She must have been so terrified during her last conscious moments on earth…

Hope her family will press for justice until the end!

When does enough becomes enough. Our political directorate most certainly don’t send these criminals to brutally murder innocent citizens but they have the power to effect change. No one who kills be it manslaughter or murder charge should not be allowed bailed. Please i am asking that our politicians come together in Parliament and change the law to enact much stiffer penalties to include death penalties and life sentence without parole. We don’t understand why those things happen–especially when we are the victims–but God knows what is happening; He is our Supreme Judge and there will be fair justice at His time. Mrs. Robinson’s family and friends will come to overcome their grief because of the rest of Jesus Christ and their faith in Him.

There is a reason why Mrs. Robinson was allowed to identify her attacker before she died–he is one who cannot get away with this–God’s Will be done; let pay attention to that work of His Will.

I have stop blogging for a while now , but this story /tragedy caught my attention . I am so so sorry that this happen to such a nice person, always had an infectious smile. My God what were those devils thinking? My sympathy goes out to her entire family and friends. I did not know her very well but met her a few times when she came to my work place to conduct business.
Now i am so angry , just thinking that some lawyer is going to defend those devils and portrait the victim and the guilty party , that’s what they do all the time . If the Defense lawyers have any heart and love for their , Grandmothers , mothers , sisters, wives , daughters aunties etc, they will refuse to defends those devils no matter how much money is offered, let them go to court and defend themselves so the prosecutor can tear into them and leave the jury with no choice but to return with a guilty verdict and the judge has no choice either but to impose the maximum sentence or better yet straight to death. I do not want to get political , but please prime minister and the rest of the government , go back to the drawing board do what ever is necessary when it comes to the bail act , see to it that it is revised , that there is no bail for suspected murderers. Make sure that the maximum sentence is given at all times when found guilty of murder and not left to those dam judges. I am so mad right now . May her soul rest in peace.

People the Problem is that, The Justice system in Dominica Does take too long to call on.
This Guy that killed the Lady he broke down the house three times and he Case has never call up until this day he got to kill her.
I understand that the killer was in the village Of Giraudel drinking on that same night he killed the lady.
when he first beat her up , she had her phone close by then she called her friend in bellevue and say that she has been attack then the killer was near she did not know then the killer went back to her and finish with her. he bkoke her both hands and the person was on the line listening to all what the killer telling her.
so when they brought her down she told her brother the killer’s name.
then yesterday they caught him and they hand cough him from all the way newtown to Giraudel just for him to go and show how he did that and Yes He spoke to the Police men he push up the windown the he walked up the steps by Inside.

Rest in Peace Ma Robinson , you will surely be missed by the Community of Eggleston and Giraudel

    • November 4, 2012

Well with so much evidence to prove he is the killer, I do not see why there would even be a case called against him.

I mean what would a defense attorney have to say, to the members of the jury, on the behalf of a murderer who was identified by the person he murdered–before she died.

What kind of excuses would that lawyer have on behalf of this killer? Well, since there is no “capital punishment” in Dominica, that young man should spent the rest of his existence in a prison cell–for the wages of sin is death! He earned that wage by his own work of sin and wickedness.

    • Justice and Truth
      November 4, 2012

Her family should look into this. I visualize that the government should be sued over this. Dominica is a small country and her family may just leave it all up to God.
If it were in Canada or other progressive country, the victim’s family would not hesitate to sue. Their lawyers would love defending them.
Dominica is a small country and her family may just leave it all up to God.
That young boy is bold and arrogant. Since Dominica does not have capital punishment, he deserves life imprisonment without parole.
What a bad boy! You know what else, it is too bad they could not give him a good beating.

So very sad a good friend of mine vibrant and energetic. She embraced Dominican culture with a passion and although she was 75 she had the enegy and fitness of a 25 year old.
The big question is who are the ENABLERS of such a heinous crime???? It is the one who bought the jewelry in the first place. Over and over he bought the gold from a young boy with no access to such gold. No ordinary gold , it belonged to her grandmother any body especially this VETERAN jeweler would have known this was stolen jewelry.
CASH FOR GOLD has come back to haunt us!!!!

    • Concerned
      November 4, 2012

If you have evidence of this go to the police. This is the source of crime.

If some-one buys gold from a third party without enquiring how that third party came by the gold and they are aware the person selling the gold to them does not have the means to purchase it the person buying the gold is culpable and could themselves be liable for theft.

We need to stop sending mixed messages .As a commentator said we all be sad at this lady’s passing but next they will be those who will try to say why we should be soft on the murderer or murderers. When society sends mixed messages just as if you have a child and you send mixed messages about what is right and what is wrong things get worse.

May her soul rest in peace. That womam was a sample citizen. a real warm and wonderfull wonderfull person.Investigation or no investigation, weather they find the real killers or not I do not expect any justice to come out of this as long as we have the existing team of defence lawers operating in Dominica. The defence lawyers we have in dominica have no conscience. I really wonder how these guys cna sleep at nights. they have no committment with the peace, law and order, or the safety and security of Dominica and it’s people, their loyalty is to crime and criminals. MARK MY WORDS. These criminals are going to get bail and on the day of court they are going to walk free.Crime is a hell-of-a big business in Dominica for Lawyers. thrust me defence Lawyers want a vibrant and healthy criminal enterprise, that is how they make their money and they do not take kindly to anyone who tries to reduce criminal activity because it affects their pocket. You remember the daylight armed robbery at Marigot credit union? You remember the robbers tried to kill police officers? You know the investigators did not get the criminals to turn over the money or the guns but do you know that they are out on bail? This thing about justice in Dominica for the victims of crime in Dominica like Ms. robinson and her family is a joke and it is a joke that is designed, premeditated and intentional.I have no faith in the justice system of this country.Dominicans have no one to depend on but the ALMIGHTY. We are in serious trouble in this soceity.

Only today I thought, with the Independence celebration all is quiet in DA and everyone is having a good time. Little did I know I would hear such sad news and about someone whom I know.
It was not my intention to access DNO today, busy as usual but when I heard the sad news I got the inclination to do so. What more can I say? I am praying that those thugs be caught soon.
My heartfelt sympathy to Donnie and family. I share the pain of what occurred to your dearly beloved sister, Marvlyn. I and my family in Canada, in DA and elsewhere including all others, friends who know all of you, are deeply saddened. We also share your loss.
Keep strong. God is with you and is consoling you. He sees your grief. You are in my prayers. I will always remember Marvlyn in my prayers. Will be in touch later.
Eternal rest grant unto Marvlyn, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen!
May her soul and all other souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen! Lord have mercy!
During the month of November the Catholic Church particularly remembers all faithful departed. I will place her name in the Book of Life in Church. During this month, she will be getting the benefit of all the Holy Masses, not only in Canada but throughout the world, no exception in Dominica. “The incident happened in Eggleston not Giraudel”.—Commentator “Informer”

Thanks to you “Informer”, for disclosing this information; when I read the headline, of the news article, my heart skipped a beat; but it was even worse for me when no name was mentioned. I am from Giraudel and every person who is mine–except my son and one of my sisters– lives there.

But thank you to the rest of you who comment here, by the things you all said, I believe that I even know the person, who was killed.

I also agree with some one who said that the murderer is not from neither Giraudel or Eggleston. I left peace and unity between those two communities in 1974–it is true that we cannot speak about one without mentioning the other–we still worship and fellowship together in that little Chapel of ours in Giraudel.

When I was there in 2008 I witnessed that the peace and unity was even more intense–and much so among our young people. It is impossible for me to believe that one of us would kill our own people–especially if that woman was a senior citizen, according to another commentator.

I will be back with my post of sympathy. I just wish I knew for sure who is the person that was killed.

    • November 3, 2012

Among the communities in Dominica, who are God fearing people, I would rate Giraudel/Egglestion community the “number one”–and who can disagree with me; I was born and raised there (Giraudel).

Nonetheless we have an enemy who is unwavering with his plan to break us down. O that he would acknowledged that he has lost, and to leave us alone. But God Almighty remains in control, He knows what He is doing, for His plan is to give the victory to those of us who will persevere!

And so, I say to the family of Mrs. Robinson, that there is nothing that can separate us from the Love of God that is in His Person of Love–His Son, Jesus Christ; not even death–do not give up; for that is what the enemy wants us to do–we cannot give him the win!

There is a beautiful song that men like Jim Reeves used to sings: Here it is for all you, who are now grieving!

Where do we go from here,
when test of faith is drawing near?
Touch our heart and guide our lips in prayer.
Through the Grace of God alone
We will cast away those fears we have known
And to free ourselves from the depths of deep despair.
      Lead us through the darkness and through each gloomy day;
Take our hands, O precious Lord, and guide us on our way.
Give us strength that we my build abiding faith, so we won’t ask, where do we go from here?

I pray that the soul of Mrs. Robinson will go to her rest in peace. And may she be among those who will know the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

May Mrs. Robinson be among those of us who will stand across the river, where we will be waiting, to hear the angels singing, as they ring the Golden Bell for her, and for you, and for me. To God be the glory. Amen and Amen!

        @ Liza:

I have the tape of the song by Jim Reeves. It is a beautiful and moving one.
I knew Marvlyn and her family since high school days. Never did I think that this would have happened to her. She was a truly loving person. I recall the time her mother and herself spent time with me in Canada. At that time Marvlyn was residing in the U.S. Whenever I visited Dominica I would visit her mother. Her mother has since passed on. Marvlyn was truly a wonderful person.
My heart aches that such a thing happened to her and that her family are now sorrowful as they mourn her loss.

      • November 5, 2012

        @Justice and Truth

I have this song in my memory and the voice of Jim Reeves as well–his voice does wonders to the words of a song. I have it on a Cd as well

I was thinking that I new Marvlin Robinson my sister in Dominica told me that I do not know her. Perhaps she was in the USA when I was living in Dominica.

Anyway I am glad that you knew her; and so, I hope you believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ on her behalf–that is the important thing right now.

For when we know someone who has passed away in the body, and if we are people in Jesus Christ, our duty is to hold on in Life, by faith, with the spirit of that person, whose soul is now sleeping in their grave. Blessings!

To Emil Te Kwen look at your statement, it is rather unfortunate that you felt to highlight just this area of safety, it is a proven fact that our beautiful country of Dominica is a safe place in our region when compare to our population and land mass, In this present time, St Kitts which is smaller in population and land mass has recorded more murders in 2012. Antigua and St Lucia are all record more murders in 2012 Dominica this is the 11 month of the year and we have record less than 1 murder a month I would like you to think through,of the prime Ministers national address where he spoke to people like you, requesting that you promote and spoke more positive about Dominica, he spoke of mrs. Clarissa Ettiene who is the head of PAHO, and Erwin Larocque Caricom secretariat and the young Joseph lady who achieve the highest honour at the U W I in Barbados, I would like to remind you today is the 3 Day of Nov the day when we were politically given the mandate to take care of our national, regional and international affairs and we are making strides, I ask of you to do some introspection and get on board in building your beautiful country, Dominica. God Bless you.

First of all I must express my sadness at the violent demise of yet another Dominican. A completely senseless killing of a defenceless woman.

One murder per month does not sound that much but we must not forget that the population of Dominica is less than 70,000 and if that rate is projected, pro-rata over the population of the U.K., that country would be faced with a staggering 114,300 murders a year, which clearly is not the case. If we must cite figures you are right that St.Kitts and St. Lucia have higher murder rates than Dominica but we are not far behind. The current UNODC rates (murders per 100,000/population) show a figure of 22.1 for Dominica and 38.2 for St. Kitts & Nevis. These compare with 6.8 for Antigua % Barbuda, 8.6 for the BVI, 8.4 for the Caymans, a relatively low 6.9 for Haiti and 5.0 for Cuba. However, if we look at so called “developed” countries we find rates as low as 0.6 for Norway and 0.9 for Denmark and 1.6 for Canada – by the way the figure for the U.K. is 1.2. Even one murder is not acceptable and we should strive to reduce our rate at least on par with those of the most developed countries.
I submit that those, who provide our P.M. with the base material for his speeches do him a disservice and harm to our country in the process. If anyone wants to take issue with the UN(ODC) figures quoted I suggest we ask our representative at that august body to verify and repudiate them.

..”Clarissa Ettiene who is the head of PAHO”..
really is that he said? or did I and the rest of the world hear him say she is the head the ILO and went on to say what the accronym meant? International Labour Organization! when people write speech for you to read these are the sorts of embarassing errors that are made which can’t be taken back. If only he had read the speech before hand or it was his own thoughts he would have been able to correct that error. Skerrit lacks self confidence and he keeps allowing an idiot in Barbados to write speeches for him, and every single time it’s an embarassing mistake. Why can’t he speak from his heart to his Dominican people?

So next time you call for introspection and correcting the record tell the truth. Quote the truth before you take issue with others.Skerrit can’t control crime, and can’t be blamed for what these animals did, or any others, but he sure needs to write his own speeeches and stop embarassing himself. Check the recordings if you didn’t hear right. That was a traversty of mammouth proportions.

You are truly an idiot. The Prime Minister said DR. Etienne is the elected head of PAHO. Maybe you were too engrossed in thinking negatively about the PM and Dominica consequently your mind and thinking went beserk. Try to be more positive in your comments. The crime being discussed is horific and we all should denounce that kind of activity in our beautiful country. Keep the politics out of that. It was just this morning I was listening to the speech of the Right Honourable Prime Minister about Dominica on Independence Day. One of the things he said (I wrote it down in my note book). He said among other things that “Dominica is one of the safest and most peaceful places to reside”. I particularly made of note of this, because I know that this statement is not exactly correct. And now, look at what happened. Maybe this lady was attacked, just around the time when the Prime Minister was saying that “Dominica is one of the safest and most peaceful places to reside”. How sad for the lady who perished and her family. May she rest in peace. My condolences to her family.

Well this is the same Prime Minister who, at the Diaspora meeting in 2010, stood at the podium and stated that the crimes that were happening in DA at the time, that participants at the meeting was talking about, were not serious. He tried to say that they involved family etc. Any crime is serious, whether it involve family, strangers, co-workers ect. At this time he was cautioned, that we need to be very careful how we speak about crimes, because one crime is TOO MANY, and that the criminals are listening to us, the leaders and citizens of the country and taking note of our view on crime. Two years later, and how many murders and various crimes later, we STILL THINK “DOMINICA IS ONE OF THE SAFEST AND MOST PEACEFULPLACES TO RESIDE?” So does that mean that he is satisfied with all the crime that is being committed then? and essentially saying it could be worse. Until we acknowlege and face up to what is happening, we will never start to attempt to fix these problems. If you don’t think you have a problem, you will never feel there is anything to fix or change.

I see alot of people giving instructions on what should be done to the bandits. Allu forget we talking about Dominica here? An unequipped police force, ineffective and slack judicial system.

Many persons kept warning, other criminals will be encouraged by the slackness and commit more crimes. So many crimes were committed and is either case just dropping, or those who did the act walking the streets freely on bail, be it for murder or what ever the case may be.

I told many people that they will only start to speak when the break down in law and order and increase in criminal activity reaches their doorstep.

It’s so unfortunate that it had to reach Marvalyn’s door step. Such a nice lady who really didn’t deserve that. I am sure she would have allowed them to take whatever they want from the house.

This is the time I will re-emphasize that when caught, I hope soon, they should never be granted bail at all. It is time for murderers and hard-core criminals/thieves to be kept in prison until their Court case and thereafter.

It is shocking and upsetting to read about that. I hope this time, if they are caught or when, they will be held in prison and not granted bail. They should not be allowed to walk the streets after committing atrocious crimes. The DA Court System must be revamped.

I never wish anyone Hell but types like that, they deserve to burn in Hell. I have a strong feeling they will burn in Hell. How can they be happy and peaceful after having committed such a crime?
God has taken note of their evil actions. All evil works are written in the book of damnation. They better start quaking in their shoes for what goes around comes around twofold and soon enough when they least expect it. Murderers!

Please DNO get the fact right the incident happened in Eggleston not Giraudel. while the communities are close they are not the same. Nonetheless my sympathies to her family. Culture will miss a truly great activist who after living overseas for a while have come back to her homeland and really made a great contribution to our culture. Her last official duties was as a judge of the Madame Wob dwyet competition.

Informer DNO is correct, Eggleston is a corner away but her area is still considered Giraudel. I know because I live there. Anyway Ma. Wait and see. I hope they are caught soon. Someone will defend them. It will be said that they have a right to lawyer representation, at taxpayers’ expense. This could get DA taxpayers’ extremely angry. Harm nationals and receive lawyer representation at their expense. Let us hear what words the lawyer will use to try to get them out on bail.

omg more killing in Dominica what has happend to the nature island of the caribbean, not so tranquil and restful as it used to be when i first started coming to the island back in 2000, i have to say that Dominica is becoming less attractive to come visit, and i have been coming every year since 2000, twice a year, and i have noticed every time i come that the island has had some more killings and the frightning news recently of the tourist attacks, the world is beginning to realise that paradise may now be paradise lost, i pray for you Dominica and the beautiful people i have met there in the last 12 years.

    • Still Safe
      November 3, 2012

Though I am not certain of the details for this case, most of the other murders have been drug related. Dominica is still a very safe place.

      • ......
        November 3, 2012

And I will always proclaim that these drug-related murders should not be reported in our “murder statistics”… MY country is STILL SAFE… :)

      • Malatete
        November 3, 2012

How naive can one be? Murder is murder. Someone gets unlawfully killed,, drugs-related or not. If we sweep these crimes under the carpet and not report them there will be no urgency to remedy the situation and we will continue in denial. The people in old England, who hid their skin blemishes with a stick-on beauty spot did not want to recognize that they were ill either. Is that what yopu want us to do?

      • .....
        November 3, 2012

        it is not drug related

      • For shame
        November 3, 2012

So a 70 something year old returnee murdered in her home during a robbery … is that drug related?

I think this means that none of us who live in homes, and have things that we have worked hard to buy and own … are safe!!!

if it could happen to her as far as I see, it could happen to anyone of us… we are all susceptible to being targeted by burglars…

      • Justice and Truth
        November 3, 2012

Is still safe? Drug related? Too many of them. It could be but those criminals will stoop to no length to go after law-abiding, hardworking nationals. Who is next? I do not consider it safe.

The reality of greed , fast life , I want it now and lawlessness seems to be shadowing many of our young people especially our males . It is indeed very sad that this lady has to exit this life in such a barbaric manner . I say , let justice be serve and let no bail be given to those ” heartless ” people who did this act . I am an advocate for the death penalty and I truly believe in cases such as this one , it should be executed ! The execution of the death penalty may certainly serve as a deterrent in the reoccurrences of such acts . May the soul of this departed woman rest in peace . My prayers are with the family at this difficult time !

They target those areas and people who reside alone. They are desperate people. Even though they reside with others, it will not deter them. Remember what occurred to Joe Costello and the others? They were not alone.

      • For Shame
        November 4, 2012

Yes they murdered (beheaded) Joe Costello, brutally attacked the couple from Pagua Bay and now they walking around on bail… You think the country still safe???

The police haven’t recovered the guns from the Marigot Credit Union robbery but the perpertrators, arrested during the commission of the crime are again – out on bail…

So who is to say that they will not use these same weapons to commit other crimes in the future???

Tell me how safe do YOU feel at night??? Knowing that these criminals are roaming the streets free of concerns and will probably never face justice for what they have done because its always CASE DISMISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
