You seem to love Stockfarm – Magistrate to repeat offender

Errol Marcellin has been sentenced to one year imprisonment after pleading guilty to charges of theft, vagrancy, malicious damage and possession of an offensive weapon.

The defendant, who was said to reside both in Penville and Roseau, stole a number of items from a vacant house in Morne Daniel on March 5, 2011.

He appeared before a Roseau Magistrate’s court yesterday.

His charge stated that he stole items which include two pairs of sneakers, sheet sets, a flashlight, a box of matches, two packets of chicken soup, a screw driver, a collection of CDs, an apron, disposable shavers and a padlock. The total value of the items was over $1,000.

Marcellin was also charged for maliciously causing damage to a door lock costing $110.

According to the facts of the case at about 12:35 a.m. on the said date, two police officers on mobile patrol in the area spotted Marcellin walking up the Morne Daniel public road with a bag on his back and cutlass in hand.

The officers stopped him and inquired his reason for being in the area and said he was just walking.

When a search was convened all the said items were found in the defendant’s bag.

Marcellin brought the officers to the house he had taken the items and demonstrated how he had used his cutlass to open the door lock.

“Father, I know I wrong to go inside the person place,” he said.

In mitigation Marcellin told the magistrate, “Please have mercy on me.”

The magistrate replied, “Why should I have mercy on you? I am looking at your conviction card and you seem to love Stockfarm so I will send you were you love.”

She further advised, “You cannot waste your life like that- in and out of prison.”

He was sentenced to serve six months imprisonment on the charge of theft, two months jail for possession of an offensive weapon, two months for malicious damage and two months for vagrancy.

Is true, if he was in some other area, they would have never stopped him, because as one said, it is a “so called rich people” area they stopped him, by the way, Dominica does not have so many rich people, some of them are acting like they have so much, but in fact, they have nothing, but on the other hand the man has no right to steal, they should have given him at least 1 year; because after one works so hard, for someone to steal their stuff, it is quite “hard”.

Allu think it nice to come home from a long day at work to find your house vandalized, front door smashed, all your food gone, tv gone and your bedroom ransacked.? that never a easy road.

And regardless where a man choose to live that should not make him more of a target for theft. i grew up in the ghetto. i worked hard. i saved up my money. bought my land and built my house. i know what it like to work for what i want. if i can do it any other man can. that is no reason for a man to come break into my house just because i want to enjoy the fruits of my labor. and lets try not make it a rich man, poor man thing. cause every month i still have to pay the bank mortgage fees.

The same way i have to pay it every month and scratch my head when i cannot meet their fees why this man cannot do the same?

there is no so called rich ones… if i work hard for what i want in life shouldn’t I be entitled to protection just the same as you? and if the man has been terrorizing people’s property in the middle of the day every single day shouldn’t the police be called upon to do something about it?

I mean the man coming in the area breaking into my home stealing everything that I’ve worked hard for. if it was a situation where i shot him when he inside my house i bet ya’l will say something different.

hats off to the police for doing their job.

trust u that jean st joe to talk some non-sense…. I hope when someone enters your home u don’t sing a different song. When people do wrong things allu always want to sugar coat it and say is bec is so and so they doing that. Like seriously get out that slavery mentality and just let a wrong be wrong. Everything is always about black against white, or rich against poor for allu dominicans. If someone had gotten injured when this mess broke and opened the person home you espppp would say the cops ain’t doing a good job and blame it on the PM….

It has customary for there to be a patrol in areas where there are diplomatic missions. The Chinese and Cuban embassies are both in the Morne Daniel area hence the reason you have task force patrolling. When the taiwanese embassy was in checkhall they used to patrol also and checkhall is not a rich people place. Can we please stop all these negative comments anytime something happens?
