Young man fined over $4,000 for pelting stones and bottles at mother and her boyfriend

A 27-year-old Fond Cole man has a serious price to pay after wounding his mother and her boyfriend as well as damaging their belongings during a family dispute on Tuesday.

Francis Phillip pleaded guilty to five charges related to the incident before Chief Magistrate Evelina Baptiste today. He faced charges of battery, malicious damage, throwing missiles and two charges of wounding.

According to the facts, Phillip beat Joseph Morancie—his mother’s boyfriend — wounded him and maliciously damaged his belongings – a pair of Sebago shoes, sweat pants, sports bag, and Nokia phone which totaled $750.

Phillip also threw bottles and stones on the Glasgow Public Road and endangered persons and also wounded his mother on the said date.

According to the defendant’s lawyer, Geoffrey Letang, his client ended up in a fight with his mother’s boyfriend when he (the defendant) attempted to calm a dispute between his mother and grandmother.

According to Letang, Phillip’s mother had attempted to burn his grandmother’s house. While trying to calm his mother and grandmother, Morancie came in and held him (the defendant) and they all ended up in a fight after a struggle ensued. “Property got damaged,” the lawyer said.

According to the facts of the case which was presented by the police prosecutor, when confronted by police on the matter, Phillip had said, “I don’t want mister in my place so I stone him in the house.”

In relation to the malicious damage charge, Phillip told police, “I cut the shoe. I don’t know about the rest.” He further told the investigating officer that the complainant, Morancie

In mitigation, Letang said that his client had no previous convictions and had cooperated fully with the police.

On one of the wounding charges Phillip was fined $1,000 to be paid by November 30, 2010 or he will spend six months in prison. For the other charge, was fined $2,000 to be paid by January 31, 2011 or he will face six more months in prison.

Phillip was ordered to pay another fine of $400 for throwing missiles, which he has to pay by November 30, 2010 or he will spend two months in prison. He will also pay a fine of $600 for malicious damage and compensation of $750 for the items damaged by November 30, 2010 or in default spend five months prison for each fine.

There was no separate charge for battery.

    @Ello

funny how u forget to mention the most imporant thing of all. the word is LOVe. evrery body needs to feel loved. many kidsgrow up in homes where a parent provides everything but fails to show love.

all a child need islove and affection from parents beleive me. even if they go hungry form time to time, and lack physical things if they feel loved these kids will be the most happy respectful kids u will ever meet.
material things cannot take the place of love. parents need to show it they need to say it. they need to learn how to discipline their kids because mjority of them don’t. they think passing blows like old clothes is discipline.

maybe that’s y there are so many selfish direspectful kids. while talking about her dad, a college classmate said tht if her tuition cost 4000 dollars, she tell her father that it cost 6000dllars. who am i to judge and say tht this girl is wicked. idon’t know her relationship with her parents or what home was like for her.

i have also seen kids who can’t wait to go home on vacations and i can’t seem to understand it. they want to go home? they love being at their home? they love being around their mother and father? this is so strange? to some people home is the saddest place ever? yes and many of these parents see that their kids needs are met financially.

… Focusing on the issue of the son fighting with his mother, is way out of hand, disrespectful and pretty cold hearted on his part. It had to take the mother’s boyfriend to pry him away from his mother, pretty sad. This young man need to be sent to prison to get time to reflect on the terrible emotional and physical pain he has brought on his mother. the dispute between his mother and grandmother should not have led him to react in this way. This is just too much. If he can treat his mother in such a horrific manner, this serves notice to women to stay away from such a man ( but u know some never listen). He has no respect, heartless, has serious anger issues, hatred in his heart and it seems a hazard to society.

STAY AWAY from these type of men, stay away from these types of men, that’s all u can say. who made that type of man? if you read properly you will realize tht the family has problems from one generation after the next. from grandma to mother to son.

so staying away from these type of men will not solve the problem. how about being better parents and raising good respectable men.

and families definitely need help in this area or the cycle will continue.

my dear, i was advising women to stay away from this type of man. You know why my dear? Because he has to really deal with his anger issues relating to this kind of behaviour before he get himself with another woman. You know why? Because he will bring physical harm to this woman when he is having trouble dealing with problems that may arise. He needs counseling and mentoring before he can get involve in a relationship. He has to see why it is wrong to HIT HIS MOTHER, apologize and prove that he has changed and know how to deal with his anger. You understand? That is why i advice women to stay away from this man because he is NOT READY to be with one. I am not saying he will never be able to, he will once he gets his anger behaviour dealt with properly. Hope you now understand. YOU KNOW IT IS WRONG TO HIT YOUR MOTHER NO MATTER WHAT RIGHT? WELL IT IS MY DEAR.

… Dominicans just need to stop being so violent, don’t know why they don’t realise that this does not solve any problems, it just creates more for themselves. And most times they can’t afford it.

Remember your audience is filled with persons of diverse mentality. We don’t want anyone reading your comment and applying such foolish words into their life. It is ridiculous how you display such a lack of disrespect for ones opinion. It is evident that Children now a day are selfish and only think of themselves. I am not like that I would give up anything for my parents but not everyone is like me, especially this generation. I have seen children harm their parents for vehicles and other material things, I have seen parents spend their last dime on a child and when they grow up they get mistreated, left in homes because they are an inconvenience in their perfect world. I have seen children turn their backs on their parents because they are not pleased of their actions. Please try not to throw a blind to the situations you have seen In this world everyone is for themselves. How many of you would get something for your parents before you get it for yourself? Very few!!!!!
As a matter of fact Mother’s Day is around the corner how many will be spending time with your mother? I’m sure you forgot.

my dear.. i see again you did not read carefully what i wrote. What u are saying now after what I wrote, I am NOT saying that there are no unruly children, but it is in how you train up the child. Understand? Learn to read carefully and respond wisely. However, I note you are speaking out of anger and frustration, be careful how you channel this emotions and know how to speak to people my dear.

I think you have some unresolved emotional issues lol.

Yeah there are some watless children out there but I’d say the majority of peeps who were raised with love and affection love their parents to death.

You not wanting kids is more a matter of your personal issues than it is that having kids will inevitably end badly which is what you seem to be trying to say.

        u hypocrite.
no i do lnot live in such a family. i was born to fanatical chrisrtian parents. i actually thought my parents were virgins. the prolems may be different in chrisstans home but they are still heart breaking.
wht we need is for this sought of issues to keep making the news and we will realize that somthing must be done in our country to adress these issues. they are real and i see it happening every day.. in christian families as well as none christian ones.

so please get out of your fairytail world or world of denial and step into the real world.

Yes my dear, they are happening, but I was referring to your NEGATIVE SPEAKING. Are you making a difference in your family? please do. It’s about building our people, not breaking them down. Every family has their ups and downs, but as I said, let’s NOT speak negative. Every word you say is recorded in someone’s mind and can influence them to do good or bad if they do not know better. I can see you took my words personal and did not see exactly what I was advising you. DO NOT SPEAK NEGATIVE WORDS. I am not offended by your refute. You are entitled to your opinion, but we must remember that we are all Dominicans and what you say speaks of you too. Do not be easily offended, self control is needed.

well if the mother was attempting to burn her own mother’s house what do u expect her son to do to her?
im not saying the son is right in his actions but though. The bible never said to honour ur mother and father only if they have no fault.

these things are sad. i wonder if they will wish their mothers happy mothers’ day………….
