Cruise village for Dominica still on the cards

The construction of a cruise village is still on the cards for Dominica.

In confirming that intent recently as a guest on Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit weekly talk show, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, International Transport and Maritime Initiatives, Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite said having a cruise village in the capital city and the Woodbridge Bay Port at Fond Cole will enhance the visitor’s experience.

“Certainly the cruise village is on the cards for Dominica,” she said.

She continued, “Covid-19 has impacted majority of the country’s major plans for the sector as part of dynamic Dominica, but while planning for this year’s financial year, a cruise village was discussed and when we looked at it, we thought that having a cruise village in the capital will only make, in terms of the appearance of the capital, more modern and progressive capital.”

Lockhart-Hypolite added that visitors will be able to taste some of the country’s local cuisine and products.

“But it has been all hands on deck for the international airport as we consider that as priority number one,” the parliamentary secretary stated.

Meantime, Lockhart-Hypolite is encouraging all stakeholders to get vaccinated.

“What we have done we have set up vaccinated areas for them; for instance, at the All Saints University in Roseau and other areas, so that they could have gotten vaccinated,” she said.

I have been saying that IF they insist on doing a “cruise village” it should be at the site of the Public Works garage at Woodridge bay. Have been saying that for ages. Are they still going to allow the Chinese to erect a 200+ room edifice on that site?

Another thing is the entire woodridge bay area is completely unsightly. Granted they finally redid the parking lot which was a very much needed face lift, but the port itself and especially the Coast Guard and the area behind by DAPEX are deplorable. I should have to STILL HAVE to say it in 2021 like is me alone that have eyes and a sense of pride and decency in Dominica. People like Benoit Bardouille need to address these isues because as it stands, Woodridge BAY does not give tourist visiting any feel of a Nature Isle in any respect.

There is nothing that the desperate owners and financiers of cruise ships would like better than for us all to be vaccinated and for our government to spent millions building a cruise village so as to isolate their low-spend day trippers.

In terms of tasting out local cuisine…

On occasions I’ve had family and friends stop by on cruise ships. I pick them up at 9.30 and get them back for 3.30. It’s a waste of time making lunch; they’ve eaten their fill on the boat.

The Skerrit-led government is not proactive, it is too still (stagnant). Just how they blamed Maria for the inordinate delays to bring their numerous promises to fruition , COVID-19 is now the new scapegoat for their colossal incompetence.

*Geothermal energy – still stuck in the pipeline
*International airport – still clogged in the pipeline
*Roseau rehabilitation and beautification – still plugged in the pipeline
*Electoral reforms – jammed in the pipeline
*Declaration of the missing1.2 billion from CBI – still held up in the pipeline

When the lackeys of the regime talk they paint such a promising and rosy picture of things in the pipeline to come. The reality for the last twenty-one (21) years clearly disabuses you of that notion. There is no light at the end of the pipeline under this erratic and nakedly corrupt regime.

Regurgitation of previous promises (lies) is a trade mark of this regime. Dominicans like it so and they keep on waiting for Father Christmas to turn up one day on Easter but in the meantime they want their presents before Christmas and of course before elections and on a weekly basis as well.

The Tourism Policies or this government are just all over the place. Has the government really given an serious consideration to this cruise village idea or is it just fooling the people as usual. Woodbridge Bay is commercial port which is already too congested. How can you even think of it as a cruise village. Port activities cannot be suspended to accommodate cruise tourist, so just imagine a tourist getting injured while walking there.
The government need to focus on something and try to get it right for a change. This ad hoc governance is not working and will never work. As far I can see the government is going full speed into construction of an international airport to enable air access. This cost will be astronomical because it will entail the relocation of an entire village. How can you all be even thinking about a cruise village at the same time. This is just insanity and plain out nonesense. Dominica can never develop under labour. 20 wasted years. So sad…

Whenever you hear talks of cruise village, geothermal plant and international airport know a snap election is in the making. Those criminals are now before the court for bribery and treating and they know the evidence against them is overwhelming so they have to try a snap election. So expect them to push back that case as much as possible so they could buy time to call an election. But this time Clovis will work against them and many of the people in the Diaspora will not be able to vote. So their back is against the wall

My lady Lockhart-Hypolite, you are an extremely bad example to the Dominican people. Why are you so shameless? Shakira -Hypolite, are you not the same person that was openly encouraging people to violate the law of the land, when you made that urgent plea to them to enter Dominica via the back door? Now you are pretending to be responsible? Its like you said nothing? You should have been arrested and jailed for your irresponsible utterances. Luckily for you the CDPF is a failed institution. Just get out of there lady! Tourism cannot be advanced by people like you or anyone in the DLP cabal..You are simply a puppet being controlled by an inveterate and compulsive liar!
