
Dominica’s Carib Chief Garnet Joseph is among recipients for the Golden Drum Awards to be held next week.
Chief Cultural Officer Raymond Lawrence says this year the National Cultural Council will present five golden drum awards and eight special recognition awards.
Abilities Unlimited for craft production and development, Garnet Joseph for the preservation and promotion of Kalinago culture, Marie Davis-Pierre for the promotion of vocal music, Gregory Rabess for the preservation of traditional culture and the New Dimension Theatre for theatre development are the golden drum recipients.
“The eight special awards will be presented to Chester “Daddy Chess” Letang for the promotion of calypso, Nelly Stharre for the promotion of popular music, Ras “Bobby” Olivache for herbal medicine, Damien Bellot for graphic arts, Priscilla Darroux for traditional arts, Dorelle Diole’ for creative dance and Miranda and Gerald Langlaise for the promotion and preservation of our culture,” he said.
The Golden Drum Awards ceremony will be held at the Old Mill Cultural Center next week Wednesday.

i wander if the miss wod 2009 going to be there. so much culture activities and she not there. wat a waste. the queen all over. isn’t mis wob the center of cultural activities.
Very Pleasing to know that person from the kalinago community will be recognized. Congratulations to Mr Joseph and the Langlais family. However, I think it would be interesting to let the nation know how Mr Joseph has help to develope craft production and development. Think there should be some proof to let the kalinago people know how he has done it cause maybe most of us are not aware of Joseph contribution in this aspect. Anyway congrats again to All the brethren and sisthren.
