Victor ‘Comforter’ Bique of Portsmouth was crowned the first ever Stardom Tent’s Road March Monarch.
Comforter outperformed 17 other calypsonians with his song ‘Dat speaker not changing’ at the competition which was held at the Sisserou Hotel on Wednesday night.
Other performers include Sour Sour, Alisha, De Professor, Mighty DBS, Superior Picky, Jama B, Haxey, Mighty Wok Sok, among others.
“I felt elated and felt happy because it is a form of boosting my confidence,” Comforter told Dominica News Online (DNO) on Thursday.
Though he was unable to secure a spot to compete in the Calypso final competition carded for February 14th, Comforter said the win gave him, “strength to continue to sing calypso.”
He was awarded a trophy, a cash prize of $300 and a crown compliment the Sign Man.
Comforter revealed that his next step is to produce a “love Soca single,” followed by a Reggae single and a “Bouyon with melody.”
“I have surprises in store for Dominica. It is high time I come out and make a change and do what I love to do,” he said
Meantime Tent promoter Leroy ‘Wadix’ Charles told DNO on Thursday the competition’s focus was, “on up-tempo songs of the Tent.”
According to him, the event was an initiative to showcase the Road March contenders and to invoke the “true Carnival spirit.”
Last night’s Tent also featured veterans of Calypso including Mighty Spencer, Singing Mona, Mighty Robin singing ‘Suzia’ and ‘Take me back’.
Murphy ‘Sye’ Jno Jules also made an appearance with road match classics of yesteryear from the likes of Calypsonians, ‘Solo’ and ‘Ency’.
There were also performances from the Mahaut Lapo Kabwit and Sensay.
Really that song is road march. That road March must be on one of those ab and one feeder roads where not even donkey can get by.
DNO put his song on there so those of then dispora can listen to it
It’s long overdue due. Congratulations Bique, you have always been consistent.
Sounds like a great show
Congrats my brother! A victory well deserved!
Correction. I meant the Art form not at form. Thank you
Congratulations to the calypsonian but a winning prize of $300.00. This amount surely won’t inspire the next generation of artist to take up the at form as it’s called.
Surely the prize money should be more attractive. My reasons for this being, it creates fierce competition this raising the bar and the standard of lyrics and melody. Surely that makes sense, don’t you think?
While I share the notion on incentivizing the youth to take up the art form, money is not all. Promoting and saving the tradition seems to me a more powerful incentive. It should be what inspires future generations.
Congrats to Comforter on a job well done. just some simple questions. Is Sye a freelance singer now? Has he jumped ship? Did Pat really did not give him a song this year? or is he taking a break?
Looks like he was late with prep. I think he sang part of one song.
Lovely show! Would like to remind Scrunter, that being mc is serious business and that his words to bouplay were out of order n of very poor taste.
His comments are reflections of how deep division n hatred have infected Dominica.
Nonetheless, we.enjoyed the lime
KOSHONEE SHOW, how can someone even think that rubbish is road match material
