Daddy Miller has emerged winner of the first ever People’s Controversial Calypso King competition held on Saturday night at the Harlem Plaza.
He won with his rendition “Illegal Calypso King.”
The show was held to showcase less experienced calypsonians who the public think should have made it to the final of the national show or a calypsonian who, based on public reaction, has been controversial in his or her calypso.
In addition to the crown Daddy Miller took home $5,000 in cash and kind.
Chief organizer of the show, Jeff “Charu” Winston, told Dominica News Online the show was of a ‘very good standard’ despite low turn out and two of the participants not being able to perform because of the flu.
He said the show will become an annual event.

i just want to compliment charu and the team who organised this show.inspite of the low turn out ,it was a remarkable show.the band played well,the calypsonians sang well,the gutter lapo kabrit, you all did well,the organisation of the show,good standard to match.congrats guys.only one thing i want to say is that other persons must take into consideration persons and their investments especially when knowing that it was advertised for a while,and i believe some of our other promotors must take those into consideration.

The message was clear. The people are rising up to malfeasance in public office, and you cannot stop that, no matter how deep the hole that it is piercing in your corrupt, fetid and polluted flesh.
this show could have been after the quiet season. more people would have to participate. imagine all the calpysoian didnt, cause they have respect for the season.
I think that they could have that show after the Lenten season as of now people spent all their monies during the carnival season

Too many political judges in calypso and this is affecting the quality of our Dominican Art form.
They are looking more at , “will that calypso hurt the feelings of the politicians” rather than is this a well presented song.
