Five-time calypso and reigning monarch King Dice will set the ball rolling at the Calypso final slated for Saturday night at Carnival City.
Dice will be followed by Ras Kelly with Elektra, the only female calypsonian in the 2013 final singing in third place.
Karessah will perform in fourth place while first time finalist, Ghetto Prince will follow in the fifth position. De Webb is expected to perform at number 6, while Derose and Daddy Chess will sing in seventh and eighth place respectively.
Black Diamond will perform at number nine. De Bobb will be the last calypsonian to perform on that night.
The calypsonians found out their positions in the line-up by picking a random student from the Roseau Primary School who had the numbers given to them earlier.
Electra initially picked ten and Bobb three. However, they were given the chance to swap places since they felt they were not comfortable with their respective positions.
Meanwhile, President of the Dominica Calypso Association Kelvin “Ras Kelly” Williams has said that the association continues to face financial strains due to, among other things, government taxes.
“The stresses we go through to produce an event sometimes we wonder if it’s about not having the resources to do it or people not understanding the importance of financing culture. Unlike the other countries where the government gives a subvention, here we have to give the government a subvention. We paid $82,000 in VAT last year,” the president revealed.
Ras Kelly pointed out flatly that culture should never be taxed.
He added however, that he is encouraged by the number of young people participating in calypso.
“The future looks good … when I look at Black Diamond at nineteen, Dice is still a youth, Elektra is a young person and others; I can see another 20 years in almost everybody there in calypso, and that makes me feel good,” Ras Kelly stated.

well living in Antigua for over 20yrs i’ve come to realize how calypso go, people the judges are blinded by crowd reaction. so lets hope we get the best out of who the judges chose. rendition, originality, stage performance and clarity thats what they ask for.

Its been Years since the President of the DCA keeps complaining about VAT, my solution is simple, why not he kelly the Ghost use his influence within the circles in which he dabbles to represent the DCA on this long outstanding matter. Thats where it matters to use your associates be it political to resolve matters that affect your organization. If you have made that representation in the past and you have yet to receive a favorable response then your leadership has to be questioned and deemed ineffective for twelve years now, so the best thing for the association is your resignation, your complaint and concern for twelve years seem to be falling on deaf ears the Ghost.

I don’t think Dice has the best songs, but I believe the judging will be skewed to him. Caressa whom I think is the best all-round calypsonian in Dominica, chance of getting the crown while Dice is in, is slim. He never gets the recognition he deserves.
