Carnival 2013 queen contestants Melinda Ulysess, Kelshia Breezie and Fatima Noel have all received sponsorship from various businesses in Dominica.
Ulysess was officially sashed Ms. Petro Caribe and DaVibes, Breezie, as Ms Aid Bank and Clear Harbour Community and and Noel as Ms. Fast Cash Dominca, Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) and Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) at an official ceremony on Friday morning.
Stock farm resident Ulysess expressed her sincere gratitude to her sponsor for facilitating her participation in the 2013 carnival queen pageant.
Kelvar Darroux, parliamentary representative of St.Joseph, pledged his support for Kelshia Breezie.
“The community of St Joseph is a vibrant Carnival community and over the years we’ve had wonderful carnival celebrations in this community and once again for the second year in a row having a young lady from the community being represented at the national carnival queen pageant is a plus for the community,” he said.
Breezie is being sponsored by AID Bank and the Clear Harbour Community. According to her, her sponsorship does not come directly from Clear Harbour. However, it comes from a group of people who make up the Clear Harbour Community which include the agents, Acme Garage and SAT telecoms, amongst others.
The contestant assured her sponsors that she would not be a disappointment and would put her best foot forward to give them more than their money’s worth.
In thanking her sponsors Noel said, “I am humbled, overwhelmed and feel privileged this morning to be sponsored by Fast Cash Dominica and the DFC and the DDA.”
Events Director of the DFC Nathalie Clarke revealed that all the ladies in this year’s competition have received sponsorship.
Nikisha Philbert of Laudat will be sashed next week.

FYI, its a beauty contest not a job interview and i think they all look good. I wouldnt have dressed up so much for a saching. They were only being sached by their sponsor not interviewed to get a sponsor.
I have never seen a contestant from a pageant dress-up in suits to meet the media. They have to maintain a Queen’s formality including their dressing.

I find this whole sponsorship thing is done a little backwards. Shouldn’t the sponsors be available BEFORE the ladies are even picked out? Do they have to look for sponsorship themselves? If so, why? I think it places unnecessary stress on the young women.
