“I am just so happy right now all my hard work paid off and I am very excited!”
Those were the words of ecstatic 18-year-old Bath Estate resident and winner of the Miss DSC Mass Jamboree, Odessa Elie, moments after being crowned.
Elie captured awards in the following categories: best thematic wear, best in thematic wear, best evening wear, best in evening wear and most intelligent.
During an interview Elie disclosed that first on her priority list as the new Ms DSC Mass Jamboree is to advertise the DSC globally.
“The first thing I want to focus on is advertising for the Dominica State College, video advertising, I want the world to know what a great institution the Dominica State College is,” he said.
Elie has also has cautioned the young people that they “should be themselves.”
“Just be your selves, don’t let anyone bully you don’t let anyone tell you who you should be, be comfortable with who you are. And they will accept you and respect you for whom you are,” she said.
Elie said the most difficult round for her was the question and answer and the easiest was the thematic round.
First runner up title went to Colette Ambo; second runner up is Jessie Cognet and third runner up, Sabina James.
The contestants competed in four areas: talent; thematic wear; evening wear; and answer and questions.
Elie’s dream is to become one of the great system analysts in the world and is currently a Computer science major.
Best talent went to Colette Ambo.
Commenting on the pageant Edgar Hunter, Director of Students Services at DSC, said the pageant has grown beyond the institution.
“The pageant started out small and last year it was big and this year it is even bigger and I am afraid that it might have to move away from Krazy Kokonutz with the kind of crowd we are receiving to the park for the show of that nature,” he noted.
He added, “We might have to get a team together from outside because it’s only two of us who are responsible for the pageant.”
According to Hunter the participants hardly get sponsors and the show has not in the past received extensive media coverage since the national queen show was held on the same day.
The show took place at Krazy Kokonuts on Thursday evening.
