Despite reports of violence, the police are reporting that the two days of street jump up, which ended Carnival in Dominica, were relatively peaceful.

Police PRO, Acting Inspector, Pellam Jno Baptiste said Carnival activities were observed in Portsmouth, Salisbury, St. Joseph, Mahaut, Roseau and Grand Bay.

No serious incidents were reported in St. Joseph, Mahaut and Portsmouth communities but a few minor incidents were reported in St. Joseph, he said.

He noted that in Grand Bay, two serious incidents of wounding were reported and there was a serious traffic accident while left a three-year-old injured.

In Roseau, there were 23 arrests mostly for minor offences of armed with an offensive weapon and disorderly conduct. Also in Roseau, there were two incidents of wounding where a police officer and a young man sustained serious injuries. Another police officer also sustained injuries while on duty in Roseau.

“While we condemn every act of violence in the state, we must commend the citizens for their improvement in behavior during the Carnival celebrations in 2016,” Jno Baptiste said.

Well, I give up. Despite all of this, we are still giving criminals a feather in their cap. Oh, even if there were 23 arrests Justin Roseau, they behaved well!! Nooooo!! Let those mal layvay know that they were bad. We need zero incidences. We need no stabbings. We need the criminals prosecuted and punished not given a slap on their wrists!!

This reports are conflicting . Despite reports of violence and incidences , police beaten badly , crowds panic for fear being struck by rocks and bottles you the police conclude carnival was relatively peaceful ? Okay , don’t get it . Are you basing your conclusion on the fact that no one was killed ? SMH . What a false report .

But wait a while. Jno. Baptiste said “Carnival activities were observed in Portsmouth, Salisbury, St. Joseph, Mahaut, Roseau and Grand Bay”. There were other communities which observed carnival because while driving through I saw carnival on the streets in Marigot, Wesley and Calibishie. Maybe the other communities were not given permission to have carnival in their communities. we need to be careful when reporting and ensure the information given is accurate. Just an observation!

I agree with your comment. Carnival is a nationwide festival not exclusive to Roseau,Portsmouth,St.Joseph,Mahaut,Salisbury and Grand Bay. What about the South and South East, North and North East communities like Marigot, Wesley ,Castle Bruce. Laplaine,Delices etc. Maybe Mr. Jno.Baptiste should wait for reports from all the districts before reporting to the nation.
