The Dominican students of the Inter American University in Puerto Rico celebrate the Puerto Rico Caribbean friendship day.
They kick off with the heel and toe dance showcasing one of the many traditional dances that the island of Dominica has to offer.
They proceeded by showcasing the Dominica flag and its colors through a costume that was designed and created by Leandra James, Waveney George, and Melissa Christmas in which they performed to the soca song “Wotless” by Kess.
The students also exhibited their culture by giving the audience a taste of some of the islands cuisine and also handed out Dominican flags, DVDs, and CDs.
The students that participated are as follows Leandra James hailing from the northern side of the island; Porthsmouth, Waveney George and Melissa Christmas hailing from the cultural capital of the island; Grand Bay, Stan Mason, Carla, and Julia hailing from the north eastern side of the island; Castle Bruce.
Cakafete, go Mr.Mason! i’m so proud of you. soon you will be amongst the elites!!!
Jul an Clay I see u representing in SJU papa. Hold tight
@ strupes.. It wasn’t a song of our choice.. It was a caribbean thing and i know we a part of the caribbean but we had to go with what the leader of the group said.. We dance to the song yes and it wasn’t from one of our own but we represented with the costume we wore.. Thanks guys for the positive comments.. Not everyone that goes off and disappoint our Island.. We will continue to make home proud.. One a True Dominican will always be one..
I too was concerned about the choice of song so I re-read the article. The heading did give the impression it was a ‘Dominican” thing but when I read the first line of the story, I realised it was a Caribbean thing.
So, I am assuming that you all were not the only ones showcasing your custumes to that song.
However, I still feel the leader of the group should have used a more patriotic tune, from any of the islands represented.
boy my girl.. not eazy…. nice u showing the culture…

Great job representing DA. It does not matter whether you from the North or South or Cultural Capital of DA. To the outside world you representing DOMINICA, only in the eyes of Dominicans those divisions between North ans South exist. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
Congrats…didnt even know we had that many students at university in Puerto Rico.. I am extremely disappointed though that the choice of song was not one of the thousands which could have been chosen among our soca artists, calypsonians, bouyon bands or any other band for that matter. Costumes were nice though!
