Justina Henderson, representing Grand Bay and the Bronx, has captured the Madam Wob Dwiyet North America title.
The show was held on the weekend in Scotch Plains, New Jersey where winners from past competitions around the US and Canada competed for the top spot.
Henderson ends the reign of Ashlene Giraudel of La Plaine who won the crown in 2011.
Liz-Ann Howe, who represented Houston Texas and Mahaut, was the 1st runner up and Kelly Thomas, who represented New Jersey and St. Joseph, claimed the 2nd runner up spot.
The Best Creative Wear and Best Wob went to Henderson. Thomas won best talent and Howe received the nod for best interview.
The show also saw outstanding performances from the other contestants Carol Telemaque, Lovelle Beaupierre-Nelson and Revlyn Robin-St. John. It was an extremely tight competition and every contestant performed at top level, organizers say.
Contestants were judged in creative wear, talent, wob and interview sections.
Organizers say they are satisfied with the turnout of Dominicans who came from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Boston and as far away as Toronto, Canada for the event.
It was emceed by Alex Bruno and saw performances by Tasha P, bele and flirtiation by Know Your Culture Group and ‘Prezi.’
The event was organized by the Emerald Organization which was formed in 1998 and since then has been the premiere group in maintaining the culture of Dominica in the Tri-State area.
The next event is the Independence church service which will be held on Sunday November 11th at the Redemption Tabernacle Church at 15 Gareis Street Newark, New Jersey from 10 am.
Organizers say they want to extend special thanks to some sponsors such as Gabriel Christian, Island Ryddmz sounds with DJ Cosmos, Thompson Fontaine and everyone else who contributed in making the event an immense success.
being at the show on Saturday i to can say that this show was poorly judged. the 1st runner up did not deserve to be placed at all. the contestants were given the questions before hand. so how can she be placed based on her speech? she had ample time to practice; it wasn’t impromptu. the fact that she answered her question well does not compensate for all the other segments. the winner also did not deserve that title. take a look at her wob… that is not madrass!!! she did not deserve to win best wob. her creative wear, yes i agree it was beautiful, however she looked like an African! that’s why everyone said she looked like an African queen. the show however is to depict Dominican culture. the only person who was fairly judged and placed was the second runner up. the winner should have been the first runner up and the winner should have been none other than lovelle!!!
I was also wondering how Lovelle did not win that show. Justina did deserve best creative wear but other than that, I think Lovelle was the best in all the other rounds….what the hell happened in the judging? We cannot continue to be so unfair if this show is going to continue to be held.
I was wondering myself how lovelle did not win that show but then again I guessed they judge on who they like. I agree Justina looked great in creative wear but lovelle was definitely the best in the other three rounds…no contest. talent, wob and question and answer. Lizann did not answer her second question.
bad judging…the person who was supposed to win the show did not even place…..smh.
If you are referring to Canada, she sucked. Whoever made that Creative wear which was supposed to represent the Sisserou should be out of business. That was the most atrocious wear for someone with that body frame. Please give it up. THE SHOW IS OVER. I did not know any of the girls. Show well judged.
I was actually referring to Lovelle. She won that show hands down!!!!! But I guess she was not as popular as the one who they gave the title and she did not have a cheerleading team sitting right behind the judges! smh. What’s fair is fair…the head judge had her winner even before the show started.
She won by two points. I wonder if her best friend the head judge was not their, who would be the winner, she and Lis Ann, hard their people judging. Know matter what the other ladies did not stand a chance.
lol There’s always some conspiracy about judges. The show was judged fairly and that’s it.
Well done Justina you have to be extra special because you carry the same name as my beloved wife GO ON SOUTH CITY GIRL WE ALWAYS PRODUCE THE BEST

You went, you saw, you conquered and obviously kicked butt!! and now the natives are restless!!!! I love you girl and you have my full support and congratulations all the way from Toronto, Canada.
Totally agree Julie. She has made us proud. That’s our South City girl. Paula
Good job Liz-Ann you represented Mahaut & Texas very well. You really was outstanding in questions & answer and obtained BEST Speech.
Having participated in Dominica, I NEVER know that “KanKan was worn under the petticoat.
Yes something similar was worn. When I competed in the 70’s,. Under my beautiful embroidered laced petticoat I had a under petticoat made of kan kan up to my knees and the lower part was made of cotton which was locally starched and ironed. That added flair. Part of the winning look.
congrats to Ms Henderson. But! Oh!oh! Liz-Ann you really made outstanding performances and it was the your way to go. but BEST SPEECH nailed it all! good competition. we are proud that you represented Mahaut, Houston and Massacre very well
Congratulations! Well done Miss Henderson. It is in the blood. You have elevated Grand bay and no doubt Dominica on the cultural front internationally. The entire nature Isle should be proud. Continue being an ambassador for all of us both at home and in the diaspora. Simpson Pacquette in Atlanta Georgia…
The organization in New Jersey need to revamp their entire judging system because the judges got it all wrong. This is unfair to all the contestants. The show was good but the outcome was ridiculous.
Revamp d judges!
I definitely agree with you. Terrible judges! The other two women who placed 2nd and 3rd should not have placed. All contestants did well but fair is fair and they should not have been placed at all.
I met this young lady recently at the Miss Wob in. Toronto. She is an amazing young woman. Very talented. Grandbay seems to always bring out the best. Congratulations. Please ignore all the negative comments on FB. That’s the work of sore losers.
When a contestant is competing and her creative wear is falling apart is this anyway to win a competition. When the outfit is so old and outdated make the young woman look like she is such much older than her age is that that fair. When the judges are close friends with the the winners is that fear. Winner should be placed but as a runner up.
Get your grammar, sentence structure, and whatever tense you are speaking in correctly. What’s your point. Sounds so absurd.
there is a saying hate the dog but give it the bone grandbay has a lot of superstars i am very proud of you justina dno keep up the good works of keeping me informed all the way in orlando icant survive up here without you
