I am Dominica. Are You? Champion

The Discover Dominica Authority promotes another aspect of the I am Dominica. Are You? Campaign through a new initiative called the “I am Dominica Are You? Champion”.

As part of the campaign, the authority invites the general public to submit the name(s) of anyone whom they feel deserves an I AM DOMINICA recognition.

The person(s) should be considered based on the following criteria: personal characteristics, solidarity and service to his/her community, fellowmen and / or Dominica by extension.

The submissions should state in one paragraph why they have nominated this person.

Submissions can be sent to the office of the Discover Dominica Authority or via email [email protected]. The first I am Dominica. Are You? Champion will be published on this week’s issue of the newspapers.

Meanwhile the Discover Dominica Authority will launch the first in a series of presentations to schools on the I am Dominica. Are You? Campaign this month.

The first presentation will be at the Roseau Primary School on Wednesday October 26.

Information about the campaign will be presented to students and they will be asked to provide feedback on how they feel they can be a part of the campaign.

Additional presentations to primary and secondary schools throughout the island will be undertaken during the 2011 – 2012 academic year.

I have not see or heard the advertizing but when I heard the phrase ‘I am Dominica”, the first thing that comes to mind is “I am an ambassador for Dominica”. Therefore when I come in contact with a tourist, I do want to make the best impression that I can.

I may be wrong, but that is what I think this campaign is all about.

Having said that, they should have a parallel campaign to explain to people the essence of the campaign.

I was watching program on TV on tourism in the Bahamas and they were saying that because the economy is so dependent on tourism, providing service to tousists (even in the most mundane form) has been drilled into people’s heads to the point where it has become second nature to the populace.

if this campaign is going to continue, i thinnk they should remove the “are you?” from the end and just leave it as “i am dominica!”.

If I nominate somebody DNO will censor my post, but it have good people inside DDA and affiliated to DDA that need that champion award, because they are not Dominica, they are bigger than Dominica.

DDA is really a waste of time, I am tired of saying that this is what the dollar minister left for Dominica. He charged one dollar, what Dominicans need to find out now is how much is it costing to run these two entities, IDA/DDA, so much damn money. Alot of gratuity, everyone in there seem to be on a contract but for some it appears to be permanent employment. They enjoy a very high salary plus gratuity every two years, milking the hell out of the country.

I do not mind one bit if value was given for the money, but when you see these kind of crap over and over it sickens, what are these people being paid to do? Travel, travel and pure wastage. Every time the board members meet it is like a big party with food and drink, and they still have to get the money for attending the meeting. Every interview is a big party, big food, and the interviews are very frequent because employees are being harrassed so much in these two institutions they do not stay, or those that do not appear to care too much to kiss up are dismissed.

This place is a piece of sadness and mess. I often wonder why more is not out in the open about these two entities, it is alot going on in there that Dominicans need to be familiar with because it is big tax money talking. None of the entities generate their own money but they use tax payers money like they are handling their personal bank account.

DNO, you better post my contribution, Dominicans need to know what’s going in these places, a big chunk of the budget each year is set aside for these two entities and there is no check and balance, no cost benefit analysis, none at all.

All we getting is pure coshonie for our money.

I think that “I LOVE DOMINICA. DON’T YOU” would have been a more effective marketing and promotional campaign using all the great aspects of Dominica. That way every one (local or foreign) could relate and say it with meaning. I really love Dominica! Really! And there is so much to love about it… although the robberies are hurting it these days.

this sounds so idiotic. imagine asking this question to a tourist. Dominican: “i am dominica, are you?” Tourist: “No! I’m Jessica from England” Lol nothing was accomplised. Just a silly phase; a rhetorical question and it pisses me off!

I don’t even repeat this foolishness. I am not Dominica! This thing drives away visitors to the island, since they are not Dominicans.

  12. I know I am
    October 23, 2011

Well as long as you have a Dominican passport you are Dominican. I believe that there are better things to do than that. Right now we have to see how we can curb the prolems of robbery in Dominica and hopefully we will find out how Dominican the culprits are.
Everyone born in Dominica – living in Dominica or not is Dominican in their own right!!

    October 22, 2011

You ppl are being so ignorant. As far as i am concerned, the “I Am Dominica” campaign is a very brilliant one. It means that the farmer, the teacher, the student, the fisherman, we all come together to make our country what it is. The country is not just the physical island and the natural sites, but also the skills and human resources that the people possess.

    I Am Dominica! Are You??

hey don’t be ignorant,i am dominica, means dominica is introducing it self to the world,in other words its like meeting somebody and giving your name, telling the person about yourself, don,t you get it,this is a tourist promotion, and whats up with,if dominica stinks you stinks to,what are you trying to say,or if you die dominica dies to,this not making any sense.
