A lively and enjoyable Heritage Day was held at the northern village of Vieille Case on Sunday as Dominicans from all parts of the island flocked to ‘Itassie City’ to share in the celebrations.
The day began with a Mass at the newly rebuilt Roman Catholic Church where the congregation, choir and celebrants were dressed in variations of the national wear and local fruit and vegetables were carried in the offertory procession.
An exhibition in the parish hall displayed other agricultural products of this farming community as well as craft work by villagers and objects used in the past. One highlight of the exhibition was a display of personal objects used by former Premier of Dominica and a distinguished son of Vieille Case, Edward Oliver Le Blanc. These included the copy of the 1967 constitution of self government handed to him by British Officials on the attainment of Associated Statehood with Britain in 1967. There was one of the ‘shirt jacks’ that he was famous for wearing, his briefcase and his pipe, books of poetry and fishing line, since fishing was one of his main hobbies.
At the cultural gala, which took place at the traditional centre of the village ‘En ba Mango’, a wide variety of dances, songs and music were performed by villagers of Vieille Case and neighbouring communities. Mr. Arthur ‘Fenay’ Massicot was sashed as Cultural Elder by the President of Dominica Dr. NJO Liverpool and he was given a cheque by the National Cultural Council for his many contributions to the community in the fields of culture, local government and as a special constable.
Seven other persons were also honoured for their work. The master of ceremonies made note of the joint contribution of all past and present parliamentary representatives towards organising the event since Mrs. Vernice Bellony, Mr. Maynard Joseph and PM Roosevelt Skerrit had all joined together to ensure the day’s success.
The crowd intensified as the last item on the gala programme came closer. This was when the Vieille Case Adult Quadrille Group came on stage with Prime Minister and Parliamentary representative Roosevelt Skerrit as a guest performer. The lively gathering cheered at every turn. The day’s entertainment ended with Chubby and Midnight Groovers playing into the night.

I looked at it on GIs. Was so lovely. What is wrong marpin was not this beautiful to carry in more detail and to even make the headlines. Come on man lets do better for country and forget the politics Marpin. It is independence free marpin from slavery. Very poor news for independence season.

INTELLECTUAL GANGSTA!!
I thoroughly enjoyed Veille Case. It was great seeing our Pruime Minister enjoy himself among his people. The pressure from the Cabal certainly is not reaching him nor is it translating into boots on the ground a la May 29th 1979. That man is truly special. Truly blessed as well. His detractors must know that he has for every hater. Pm Skerrit has 15 or so lovers. Go for it PM. We just love you
yes we do! we love him so! skerritian n dominican!…he was enjoying himself and we enjoyed looking on…he made us laugh n smile and the ambiance was just lovely!
