Market Day with a Difference at the Roseau Market will be observed on Saturday, October 26th 2013 as Dominica observes its 35th anniversary of Independence.

The event is observed primarily to highlight the hard work of island’s farmers and vendors, and their contributions towards the national development effort.

This year it will focus on the vendors and patrons of the Roseau Market.

It is expected that Government Officials, dignitaries and special invited guests will be taken on a special extended tour of the Roseau Market to interact with vendors/patrons in keeping with the renewed emphasis on farmers and vendors.

During the official welcoming ceremony, a number of farmers and vendors will be recognized for their outstanding contributions to the progress and development of the agriculture and the Roseau Market over the years.

“The awards will cover a wide range of areas including the vending of vegetables, citrus, root crops, meats, craft, flowers, shops, booths and snackettes,” Julius Carbon, Superindentend of the Roseau Market, said.

The official welcoming ceremony to observe Market Day with A Difference 2013 will commence from 8:00 am in the covered section of the Roseau Market along Laing Lane.  The Minister for Employment, Trade, Industry and Diaspora Affairs Dr. J. Collin McIntyre is expected to deliver brief remarks.

Cultural presentations at strategic locations on the grounds of the Roseau Market will also form part of the Day’s activities and provide some form of entertainment for patrons throughout the day.

All Dominicans are invited to the event.

Market Day with a Difference has already been observed in Marigot and Portsmouth.

Hey, be careful what you buy at the Roseau market – as paros are known to steal food and sell to some of these soutiweh vendors.

Hey! I know what I’m talking about! I saw it with my three eyes, that a paro was selling food in the Roseau Market to a Vendor I know quite well – but I won’t call her name. She bought the food from the paro to then sell to people like you. The paro had the food (shoo and yam) in a white plastic pale. She might have made a huge profit; since she only gave the paro a couple dollars. The only thing I buy in the Roseau market is Jelly coco. Paros don’t have the strength to climb no coconut tree.
