Do not forget our roots. Keep our culture alive and encourage the children and youth to be more into our culture as it something to be proud of, especially when you are living aboard.

Keep our culture alive. I enjoy the pictures and wish I was there. Dominican UK

That creole day business is a farce, most Domi-ni-can can’t speak proper kweyol, they are too proud with their foolish pride and think they are somewhere like some Haitians and some other people from abroad would say to me,when in fact they are nowhere.

I don’t think we should concern ourselves much with what the kids are wearing. Of course things change and at their age i dont think wearing a wob will go down well with them. Since so many other aspects of our culture are dying off slowly because of their lack of participation, i think on this one day when they do decide to deviate and wear the madras in the way they feel comfortable we should not be so hard on them. At least for that day they can see the beauty of their cultural heritage.

May our God continue to bless our Dominica and her people with peace and joy of His Love. as I perceived it in our smiles here.

I also agree with a few who called for the preservation of our true “National” dress. Like most things, over the years we start adding our own ideas, hence defiling our true identity. But our identity is what makes us Dominicans.

Thanks to you, DNO, for those beautiful photos, and I hope to see a few more from the rest of the festival.

Like one with the Giraudel Jim Ping for example? Hehehehehehehehehehe! Thanks again!

Nice photos DNO. I wish more of the school children was captured since the Ministry of Education asked that they wear the traditional wear. I think that some of the outfits show much creativity while some were just outrageous.
Dominicans should wear their national dress with pride since some other islands cannot boast of having one.
All in all I think that the Creole Day went just okay, though it seemed to lack the Spirit of previous years.

      you are so right

    • Aye Dominique
      October 28, 2011

yep, u’re correct, we should preserve the peasantry look, too much tight top, tube top, just name it…to me these kinds of dressings does not resonate well with national pride.

Get over it, it is called modern choices. Nostagia is one thing but somethimes we all have to accept changes.Culture does not mean being stuck in the past but rather recognizing our past, embracing the present and planing for the future. Shucks man!! You just cant please we Dominicans. I wonder why?

Culture refers to the following Ways of Life, including but not limited to:

        * Language : the oldest human institution and the most sophisticated medium of expression.

        * Arts & Sciences : the most advanced and refined forms of human expression.

        * Thought : the ways in which people perceive, interpret, and understand the world around them.

        * Spirituality : the value system transmitted through generations for the inner well-being of human beings, expressed through language and actions.

        * Social activity : the shared pursuits within a cultural community, demonstrated in a variety of festivities and life-celebrating events.

        * Interaction : the social aspects of human contact, including the give-and-take of socialization, negotiation, protocol, and conventions.

If you accept the change in your culture it will never be the same and eventually will be lost. Thus the reason why so many countries in the Caribbean has lost their culture and Dominica remains the most cultural.
