Minister of Legal Affairs Ian Douglas and Chief cultural Officer Raymond Lawrence are among Caribbean dignitaries to be honored as the West Indian-American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA) officially kick off carnival season 2011 in New York City.
The two will be honored later today at “The Best of the Caribbean” reception and awards ceremony, to be held at Tropical Paradise Grand Ballroom, 1367 Utica Avenue.
Other activities for kicking off the carnival season in the Big Apple includes the Brooklyn Children’s Museum’s first Kiddies Caribbean Carnival Fiesta which will take place on Wednesday.
The Labor Day Parade (or West Indian Carnival), is an annual celebration held on American Labor Day (the first Monday in September), in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
The main event of the parade is the West Indian-American Day Parade, which attracts between one and three million people. The spectators and participants watch and follow the parade on its route along Eastern Parkway.

can understand raymond Lawrence but why on earth Ian douglas, oh my god, that makes the word honor nothing to look up too
I am asking the very same question especially where Ian Douglas is concerned are we so far gone that we believe supporters of parties are the only persons that we can honor whoever the persons promoting these activities look within the D’ican community both in the USA and in Dominica and they will find persons who rightfully deserve the honor instead of politicans it’s time we get away from such regards.
