@get a life!: @get a life!: of course disagreeing with the judges decisions is normal. that happens on every pageant in every country including this one every year at the wob dwiyet show. having a opinion about the show is not the drama. And no names were called? ha i think i remeber the name of a certain judge being included in “opinions”.smh

To never see, come see it’s take one to know one, so befor you telling give me break that she dont know who this woman is, if you yourself was anything Good or even better than her as in your writing can plainly see i dont think you would be writing these comments in her, so thats show you no better than her so stop it, it is time to stop all these crap let staren carry her crown in peace, those of you who talking on her behalf just hurting the poor girl than anything else and you never see come see is doing a very good job at it so carry on let’s see for how long it will last, but do think that this woman you telling people that they dont know her is doing better job than you in here, which i think you should take a page from her note right now and stop it for God sake

U must not know who that woman is. when you find out about her let me know if your views have changed.. which most likely will.

@yea sure: I was not aware that freedom of expression was another term for “unnecessary drama”. In my legal expertise she has done nothing wrong. Like everybody else she is entitled to her opinion. I perused her facebook page to make sure that she didn’t call any names or attacked anyone on a personal level. After reading many of the comments posted here, there are many other people who disagreed with the judge’s decision. I have instructed her not to respond to any of these postings and I am going to sit, watch and observe and wait to see where I can collect some legal fees for libel and defamation of character….keep on! I’LL BE WATCHING!

@never see, come see: Maybe Maureen now realize that what she said before was not the best and now she wants to take the high road. Why are u putting her down? Should she continue contributing to the problem? lets accept what she is saying and move on. It has to end somewhere. Lets be more forgiving of each other for God’s sake. Stop putting each other down!!!!

@get a life!: her teaching “skills” have nothing to do with this. What they are tring to say is that she causes unecessary drama and then later claim that there is sooo much drama . Yea talking about her family was low but…its the internet and i think everyone should take a step back and realize, hey its a cultural show in a hall in the middle of Irvington. Myabe then you’ll realize…its honestly not that serious

    @Maureen 2nd runner up 2009 madam wob:
    You are truly a hypocrite!
We all have seen all of the things you have written, about who should win and who got placed and should not have. I have read about how you thought the judges did not place a certain person and who the people’s madam is,and yet you come here today, where the world can see you, to sing a totally different song! who do you think you are kidding? give me a break! Your one continuous sentence has given me a headache and I must admit I stopped reading when I saw your name in the heading. How can a person bash people and then commend them at the same time? Choose a side and stick to it! and how dare they place you back in 09, you clearly have not mastered the English language. If you are going to post something on the Internet, get some one to proof read your work!

@you freash weeeeeee: I’m sorry but I could not let this one slide. Maybe the person you are referring to will not respond but I just find you are so out of place. Yes she was my teacher and a great one at that. I am now a lawyer and if I am ever approached by her to represent her against your sorry behind I will definitely take up the case. I never knew being a high school teacher for 10+ years constitutes life in the gutter, but then again you clearly stated that her life is great now. Isn’t this an indication that she has progressed in life? To single out someone like this and attack them personally, do you know that you can be sued for libel and that DNO can be made to reveal the source of this posting? I want to end by saying attacking one’s family especially where children are involved is the lowest thing that a person can engage in. I have kept in touch with my teacher who is now a dear friend and I am going to try my best to convince her to pursue this. One last note, make sure you have your legal fees set aside cause my services are expensive! I am going to try my best to get her to pursue this. You are just way out of line!

@White And Proud: It is obvious that you do not heed to your own advice. First I do not believe for a minute you are white. There were more than one white persons at the show. On the other hand you cannot say “your stupid as Daisy,” that is not proper English. In the same way if you are so above we Islanders and wish we stayed on our Island you would not grace us with your presence at our show.

So the wonna-be white Dominican trash who is hiding behind the curtains of the internet….get a life, have some balls and be bold enough to let Daisy know that as a fellow Dominican you find her illiterate and Ignorant in her use of the English language.

Daisy, your response, your choice of words, the fact that you choose to type in all caps, your reaction, just name it; everything you do and represent shows that you lack class, respect, tact, not forgetting the intelligence and everything it would take to be a Madam Wob Dwiyet, yet alone an ambassador to Dominica. You could’ve lose gracefully and let others blow the horn but instead you chose to lead the battle. This is ridiculous. It was no chance that you did not place it was a blessing. You would have definitely been a poor choice and disgrace for a representative.

The judges’ decision is final. Get over it and move on. It was just a show. It is not a way of life. Staren is the winner and so far she showed that she deserved to win.

Seriously Daisy stop writing stuff before you learn the language. You cannot write like that if you are vying for the crown. It is a poor reflection. Don’t you think this display of poor character is hurting you even more?

Ms. Salisbury Daisy wrote, “I HVE BEEN READIN THE COMMENTS DATS ON HERE AND U PPL THATS COMMENTIN…”

I teach at City College and I must say youg lady you don’t deserve to win anything with your poor use of grammar and the way you destroyed the English language. Additionally your inappropriate use of ALL CAPS tells me you don’t know anything about proper on-line etiquette. You are a disgrace to your “people.”. It’s the very reason white people like me wish your kind stayed on your island. You are a disgrace, you are clearly uneducated, ignorant and stupid. Who spells the word “that’s” with “DATS”? I know… Your stupid as Daisy! WTF is that supposed to be Ebonics? This is America darling, learn how to you the English langauge or take your coon self back to where you came from. Period! Next time you leave a comment get a dictionary, thesaurus and use it. I can’t believe I was the only white person in attendance at this pageant. I can’t believe i wasted my money to see ignorant, ebonic speaking coons perform their traditional dance and song. But I had to remind myself…. That’s all you “people” are good for, including you Ms. Salisbury Daisy!

  22. To the Contestants
    October 25, 2010

Those contestants who are on here responding are very immature if you ask me, and maybe just maybe that is the reason they did not win that title. Everything happens for a reason.

When you can tell people “shut their pie-hole or the tone of your message is so unbecoming, then a red flag is raised as to your character. Next thing you all are sent to represent Dominica somewhere regionally or internationally and you start publicly blasting the organisers and end up disgracing yourself and your country if you do not win or place.

I am not condoning the actions of the judges if indeed they were actually dishonest in their tallying, but there is no need to engage in this type of “maypuis” especially not in this manner. Best you and your chaperone call a press conference and invite DBS or Marpin to record your displeasure.

Please ignore those comments, and whether you win lose or draw, just accept it as a lesson learned and move on.

@fam la plain: the husband and wife have no clue about the culture??? Considering they’ve been putting on the show for EIGHT years they no probably alot more information about our culture then the average Dominican. And all they care about is money? Maybe some people are too SMALL MINDED to realize that the DEONJ is a non profitable organization! and honestly anyone who thinks that Daisy should have won is obviously bias because they’re either her friends or family.sorry. and by the way did we have to see the same people perform numerous times in one night? it was pretty annoying

and don’t let this break your sprite, you all was good, and tell people on your page that you are fine and that you are happy that they have such love for you,but this is not life,it is over with, you will be fine ok,and to the people who just won;t stop give it a rest let us move on.we are not the only ones that read these post,it don’t look good, people life should not be spread over the internet we would not like people to do this to us or our family,it was just only a show not a life support heart transplant. and congrats to the DEONJ.Angie and the others good job.

I really wish that some of you could work out your ignorance. If you don’t know they find out, its sad to speak on things you do not understand of know about. Try to exhibit class, it’s rather upsetting to me. I hold my people in high regards and I am every so proud to be a Domincan. But its shameless displays of ignorance like whats I’ve seen resulting from this show that make me shake my head. We must do better. The ignorant ones must know they are ignorant because they will not leave their names, in fear that they will be identified.

How can you comment on judges when you couldn’t even judge the straigtness of a line?
You have no idea how competitions are judged, what the judges are looking for and why?

We all have biases and would like our person to win and I get being annoyed that they didn’t win but hold your head and keep it moving.

I am proud of the contestants for not engaging is the foolery that has been going on. And for all the coon with their shamefulness it would serve you best to find something more productive to do with your time.

Congratulation to one and all for being brave enough to enter the competition, because most of the ones braying as if they are donkeys, couldn’t walk in your shoes long enough to approach a stage.

after looking back at the pictures, I see who Daisy is. I will agree she should have been placed, but to automatically assume she should have won, that I will disagree with. For the people who attended, give SPECIFIC reasons as to why you are unhappy. And my suggestion, if you really are that unhappy with the judges, join the organization, make some changes, but dont sit here and have all the garbage coming out of your mouth…

This was my first time attending the pageant & I must say that I disappointed and disguisted by the comments on here. Staren was the youngest contestant and her accomplishments definitely give her some leeway over the other contestants. Personally I feel like she deserved to win, however, I am not a judge, nor am I familiar with the judging so this is my just opinion. At the end of the day why not congratulate this young woman on her accomplishment instead of throwing hate her way. I dont remember who Daisy is, which says a lot for someone whom you people thought should have won. If you dont like what is going on, CHANGE IT! But to sit her and say all of these disguisting comments shows how much of a loser you are. Congrats to Staren & much love and success to the OLDER contestants… maybe you can try again next year…

@fam la plain: Fam Laplain since you obviosly an expert on culture then maybe you should come offer your services with the DEONJ and improve the event. But for a couple you claim have no clue about culture that husband and wife team sure doing a damm good job putting on this event with their organzation DEONJ. I have it from concrete sources that they have never received a dime for their services in the group – they do it for love of country and people and so they make the time to work on this event each year. We should only be supporting them and commending them – not trying to diss them…;;. but then again that is typical our people. We see something good happening and we have to find a reason to speak negative while knowing that we ourselves not willing to give up an hour of our time for charitible purposes. we too busy earning a living and handling our personal affairs. In my opinion that husband and wife team needs to be given props because they are very few of us who will make the sacrifice that they make each year. Oh well. I guess there will always be haters…… By the way – where that couple from? They not Dominicans nor?

@fam la plain: What about us Dominicans that make us want to criticize and destroy something that is good. Fam La Plain, that husband and wife team do their civic duty and have served their country and their people for years putting on this show along with DEONJ with no monetary pay. A concept you obviously cannot understand. It must be hard for you to comprehend how people can be like that huh? It must be some money they getting man? …. Isn’t it marvelous that people you claim who have no clue in culture can do such a good job each year for years. Helping to create this event where Dominicans in the Diaspora can come together each year to celebrate our country’s independence. It’s not about winning a pageant – its about mainting interest in the culture….. Stop being so negative and shorsighted and do something for your country also. Give of yourself and dont expect any pay in return – Make a difference. Do it for love of Country – just like that husband and wife team…. They love their country and they have never gotten one single dime for their work work in the DEONJ – Check with the members of the organization if you need to…… Leave those people alone – you too miserable and jealous…….
BTW you cannot be a person who contributes anything to your community because your thinking is too negative. It takes a certain kind of people and you Fam La Plain are not such a person or you would understand the interest and drive and passion of the members of the DEONJ.

I would like to thank DEONJ for the opportunity to represent my community in this year’s Madame Wob Dwiyet. My family, my son, my fellow Wesleyans, my friends and all my supporters for their love and unfailing support.

@ “Reality Check”: It seems that you know my business better than I do. You have sunken to a new low and the fact that I was chosen to represent my village has insighted a new level of jealousy, can you just find your own parade to rain on? Let me enjoy my thunder. Unlike you I have more important things going on, than sitting in America waiting to see who travels when and where, how often or when last. Mind your business and that those who are in cohorts with you. When you live in a glass house please do not throw stones and if you have a glass jaw shut your pie hole. I agree with “respect” the young lady from Wesley who spoke in the different languages should have gooten best talent. We all know that Wesley peopl are not really versed in patois and for her to deliver not only cocoy and patois but also kalinago and spanish says a whole lot. that she ha sput in lots of research tiem and effort intyo her talent. i mean how many of us even know a word in kalinago? by this she has reminded us that caribs do have athis language. it also showcases her intelligence and avbility to retain all that information.. i am very proud to know that and in my humble opinion that showcases such talent and so she should have been given best talent.

Respect to those who won. It is obvious that sometimes we as the audience see things that the judges do not and the judges see and expect things that we do not. To say that Daisy was expected to be the winner is an understatement. No one should be expected to be the winner. At the end of the night the one with the highest all around points should be the winner. We have to realize that when a competition is judge on a number of different rounds the constant second sometimes emerge the winner. As long as one is constant, not necessarily the winner of the particular section they may emerge the winner. I am sure that from the looks of things the winner did not win by a big margin. Congratulations to all the participants. The rep from Wesley was great. She indeed put a lot of effort in her talent. She spoke to us in Spanish, Creole, kokoy and kalinago. Did I even list them all….maybe just maybe she should have gotten best talent. Now if that were the case she would’ve been the winner since she did such a brilliant job in her Wob.

I do not think there is ever a case where we are always pleased with the judging.

please what scrunter the man took out his clothes on stage ,the big up for the night was that little calypso girl Cody and Alex Bruno.what is all you problem real talent is real talent.stop going to shows just because u like it and go also because you understand it,most of you all just watch a show like a soccer game. you just shout when you see a goal, not knowing that it is an outside goal that was scored. and go back to school to learn all you culture foney Dominican, even the two people that organize the show the husband and wife they have no clue about the culture, just that it brings chi chin(money money money money money) and sooner or later people will not want to be part of all this co-mess.congrats to the young lady you are as beautiful as Dominica and keep up with that great voice that is talent weee.

Totally agree the show was great but for the people who agree that Staren deserved to win you guys were watching a completely different show. Everyone was pretty sure that Daisy had won the show but as always huge upset. Staren was horrible in her dwiyet – she pretty much did nothing with the dwiyet but danced and pranced around the stage and did not answer her questions. If there was a clear winner, it was Daisy since she was the most consistent throughout the competition. Mayma and her cronies need to explain to the people how they arrived at that decision cause we sure need one. Giving the crown to Staren is one thing but to completely not place Daisy something went very wrong!!!

I was present at the show and I think that the show was outstanding comparing with the previous years. Congrats to Staren Soanes..she has a beautiful voice and if everyone was listening the song was all about encouraging ourself….and all of us foreigners out there know how much of that we need cuz it not easy out there in the struggle. Am very proud of her. The show was judge fairly and we should all be proud of our people and stop trying to crutisize one and another. We should be proud of all the ladies that was up there its not easy at all to be up there trying to save a dying culture. So instead we crutisize we should encourage more girls to be up there to keep Dominica culture alive. Congrats to all the ladies that were on that stage. Thumbs up for the group Know your culture dance group. Outstanding performance.

    1. Where are the pictures
    2. People always get upset when competitions don’t go their way
    3. The judges gave numbers to each contestant per round, when the numbers are tallied the winner is determined
    4. If you speak to the judges I am sure they can explain whe got higher marks and why
    5. Id agree that Daisy should have definitely places and was surprised when she didnt
    6. By tally of attendies suveyed who had no ties to the show, “Staren” was the clear cut winner
    7. Who don’t like it can bite it
    8. Try to stop being so disrespectful and give respect where it is due, some of you are so ignorant its shameful.

Super Congrats to my sister “Staren Soanes” and my cousin “Cody Norde” its a family things get to know us! hahaha

well Dominicans what is really happing to us this show was a great show,I must say that the young lady who won was breath taking, this young lady spoke very well, all the girls was good, and yes we might not agree with the judging but the young lady who won was the one that had to win.i myself my high light of the show was the little miss calypso this child was so good she had me and my friend speech less.she handle Tarina song with class, she handle the words like a pro, even scrunter was speech less.we need to see more of this young child.

I attended the show. It was one of the better shows DEONJ put on. Congratulations to Fellena on placing first runner up. The North East is certainly proud of you. Congratulations to KNOW YOUR CULTURE DANCE COMPANY, they rocked the house with their quadrille. It was a first class presentation and The dancers were brilliant. I was however very disappointed with the outcome of the show. We all expected Madam Wob Dwiyet to be MISS DAISY GRANT of Salisbury and not even place her was a disappointment to the audience.

I was present at the show. It was of very high standard and being at the show made you felt like you were in Dominica. The young ladies carried theirselves well in their Wod Dwiyet, One problem was the judging as usaula which we all know is always a problem at a competition where no one is pleased. This was a clear sign where the judges got it wrong. I will not say who in my opinion should have won but the three top were not correct.
Once again the show was well attended and the preformance by the little calypsonian Cody Norde was a sight and guest performance by Scrunter was another.
Congratulations to the group who organized this event.
