UPDATE: Earlene Labassiere 1st runner up in Miss Humanity International

Dominica’s representative at Miss Humanity International Earlene Labassiere has placed First Runner-up and captured the title of Queen of the Caribbean at the pageant which culminated last evening in Barbados.

The 20-year-old beauty, who placed behind Karabelo Mokoallo of Lesotho, was the only Caribbean contestant in the Top 5 of the competition after having claimed wins in a number of the pageant’s categories, including People’s Choice award, where the public was allowed to vote for their favorite contestant.

Labassiere also took top position in the Best Costume category wearing a replica of Dominica’s National Bird, the Sisserou Parrot. She also shared Beauty on a Mission with Miss Lesotho and Continental Queen with four other contestants.

National Director for Miss Humanity Charmaine White-Christian expressed pride at the result, noting that it was only the second time that Dominica had placed at an international pageant.

“As National Director, it’s a stepping stone for us because this is an international pageant and it’s the fifth time Dominica is taking part in a international pageant and the second time that we are placing. The first person who placed was Shannon Vigilant, many years ago and here we have Labassiere coming in that top five, the only Caribbean country in the top five, so that makes me really very proud, ” White-Christian said.

White-Christian also recognized a number of Dominican organizations who assisted in affording Labassiere the opportunity to represent Dominica.

“I just wanna say thank you to Malcolm Stephen and Sons, the Government of Dominica, Petro Caribe, Quinns Jewelry, her coach Samantha Letang and everybody who had a hand in her success,” she said.

Other pageant awards and results included Miss Congeniality: Barbados, Miss Photogenic: Canada, Best Swimwear: Portugal, Best Gown: Portugal, Best Talent: Philippines, People’s Choice: Dominica, Continental Queens: Lesotho, Portugal, Philippines, Dominica, Canada,

Top Five: 5th, Canada, 4th, South Africa, 3rd, Philippines, 2nd, Dominica and the winner of Miss Humanity International 2011 Lesotho’s Karabelo Mokoallo.

Labassiere is expected back on island later today.

@ onlooker. I know them both very very well, even better than you because we are all from the same area and we grew up together. I went to college with N. and trust me this is her 100%. And this is not Miss Dominica at all. Earlene is always more humble and hardly even talks much but if you see her with children you will understand. So do not say what you do not know about and for your info N. Did say these things to us. I will leave it there…….wat u eh know can’t hurt. Jealousy is a poison.

The reason why Miss Dominica did not win was because she was not a humanitarian, she treated the other delegates poorly, locked Miss Belgium out of the hotel room, threw Miss South Africa out of a car, screamed at Miss Antigua, insulted Lesotho….the list goes on… She entered the pageant to win but HOw can you win a Miss Humanity International Title by being so inhumane to others? She never interacted well with any of the delegates. Take note Dominica its not all about looks & fashion. You must be kind to fellow man not pretend because sincerity shines through just like falsities. If any of you speak to the other delegates none of them have anything positive to say about this girl…..which is very sad but congrats on placing 1st runner up.

      Hi

I need to say that these allegations are absolutely not true. We all had a great time together, and though some of us had our differences because it was a competition we still appreciated each other. I miss Miss Dominica and I know others do to. Our little flag girl.

lol, very interesting contribution. So is Miss South Africa critically injured?? Is miss Antigua hearing ok now?? Did Miss Belgium get a key from the reseption at the hotel?? hahahaha

Really this is just ridiculous and Mind I say this sounds like N. ‘Miss not sure of her nationality’. A sore loser. This is not Earlene’s personality. We are very proud of her and are happy she represented Dominica and did her best. Congratulations Earlene.

You see how Dominicans are. Ms. White you mean to tell me is Earlene and Shannon are the only one to represent Dominica on an international level in such show. Lord. So I was going through the achieve and came across this bit of information. Michelle from 2003 queen show you all remember that glaring hear went up in Ms.Queen of the islands 2008 presenting Dominica out of from what I saw when I did the Google search 17 contestant from the islands which is organized by Jamaal Magloire organization and he is professional basketball player. Anyways this young lady went on to place 3rd out of 17 contestant how comes I never hear a dayfo about that..But if is not ms so and so you don’t give these ladies recognition for their contribution anyways I just had to do my research for peace of mind.

Sorry to say pusina but the article didn’t say this though. It said ‘fifth’ which means there were four others before her and there is a difference between an international pageant and a regional pageant. Congratulations to Earlene and her team.

I want to congratulate Miss Earlene Labassiere for a job very well done. It hurts my heart to see Dominicans being robbed of their achievements. I was at the pageant at the Plantation Theatre and up till this moment the crowd cannot understand where Lesotho came out. We all agree that her humanitarian cause was excemtional and when they said the girls were tied we knew Lesotho would have won that category but helas, for the other segments of the competition Lesotho was no where. She wasnt in the top five for costume neither talent. And her evenign wear wasnt all that compared to the other girls. Just imagine how disgruntled people were. Dominica won best costume, second in humanitarian cause and people’s choice award. We were happy for that but we did deserve to walk away crowned that evening. no bias.

Ms Labassiere gave a fantastic performance and I wish that maybe the pageant would be shown on television so that other Dominicans can share in the great moments. Trust me, It made me feel good to be a *Dominican sitting in that crowd and seeing Earlene perform. When she came out in that costume, people couldn’t understand themselves and as for the talent, when she finish it put tears in my eyes because I couldn believe Dominica had such talent. I wasn’t home for queen show but I said if the queen beat Labassiere at queen show she had to be damn good and I am waiting to hear whether the queen will do as well as Labassiere in her regional pageants because Dominica can go places. I only heard about Jaycees so I am waiting to hear about the other pageants for the queen.

I just wanted to share my ten cents because it is one thing hearing about something and it is anther thing being there to witness. and I want to tell Dominicans to applaud Miss Labassiere because she was the bomb. Good Luck Miss Labassiere in all your future undertakings.

@ “attended pageant“ thanks for giving everyone a little insight about the show. My congratulations go out to all the contestants I am sure you did your best to represent your country so keep heading for greater things.
@ Earlene Labassiere, my dear cousin I am very proud of you and your entire family feels the same . You know yourself as a person and there are always going to be negative, ignorant people around you trying to bring you down. The key is keep holding your head high and pay no attention to it. Because while their negativity is causing them to stay stagnant, your positive attitude will bring you to higher heights……WE LOVE YOU…….your family

CONGRATULATIONS TO EARLENE!!! We are all proud of you and we are elated that you represented your country at this international pageant. this is a rare opportunity that many Dominican do not get. This is just to show that you were exceptional at the Miss Dominica Pageant. to go out there and compete against the big ones like Lesotho, and Phillipines and Canada and Belgium and the rest, some of whom have represented their countries at the Miss world and Miss Universe pageants is an achievement. It is even a better achievement because you did not just compete among Caribbean countries and as the result say you were crowned Caribbean queen which means if you did represent Dominica at a regional pageant you would have won, unlike some queens who go out there and do not win anything for Dominica in a little regional pageant against six other countries.

Your costume was very beautiful congratulations to Charlene White-Christian and Danley guye Who designed your costume. And Alice George and Malcolm Christian who helped build it. It is really phenomenal. I also want your coach Samantha Letang to train me for queen next year. So I hope I will be as good as you.

Charlene I want to represent Dominica next year, please tell us how to apply.

God Bless you Earlene and please continue to be good to malcolm Stephen they are really the best sponsors.

    Congratulations to Charlene, Danley

You see that is the problem with this country. And that is why this child have so much bad luck. You guys love to put down other countries even your neighbor country. Please all you can talk about is the Costume. That did not give her the crown it just push her up to the top a little. Her swimwear was not call for. That is the major problem and she speak like someone that is not educated. So, beauty is not it only.

I read the bio of miss Lesotho and I must say her victory is one that is very well deserved. This young lady has been doing a number of humane acts in her country. She is using her beauty not to gain popularity and attention, but to gain the financial and human resources to help others who are less fortunate. she is truly a miss Humanity. an other Mother Theresa.
