The Dominica Association of Professional Engineers (D.A.P.E) plans to conduct a series of events in recognition of Engineers’ Week. The organization issued a press release indicating that the celebration is scheduled from March 23 to March 29 and will begin with a mass at St. Martin De Porres Roman Catholic Church in Canefield on Sunday, March 23 at 10:30 AM.
Nicole Laville, the President of D.A.P.E, emphasized the significance of commencing the week with a spirit of gratitude.
“On Sunday, March 23, we will kick off the week with Mass at the St Martin De Porres Chapel in Canefield. And we’re going to take this opportunity to give thanks and offer our organization, our profession and the work of our hands to the Almighty,” she stated.
On Wednesday, March 26, the association will hold a debate involving students from Dominica State College and the AcademiX School of Learning, aimed at engaging the youth. The debate topic has been carefully chosen to resonate with young people. “The topic of this debate is particularly timely and in keeping with what is happening in 2025 and it is ‘The Rapid Advancement of AI is a Threat to Engineering Jobs and Will Soon Lead to a Lack of Innovation in the Field’. And we believe that this discussion will be crucial for the field of engineering…The debate is also an opportunity to encourage young people to do research about the field of engineering and this is one of the aims of our organization-to promote engineering and to gain ground for new engineers in Dominica,” explained LaVille.
The debate is set to take place at the Amphitheatre of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital at 2:30 PM, and the public is invited to attend.
To conclude the week’s activities, an awards ceremony and social event will take place on Saturday, March 29.“To close out the week, we are going to be holding the Engineers’ Award Ceremony and during that ceremony we are going to honour three (3) exceptional engineers for their outstanding contribution and dedicated and long service to the field of engineering in Dominica. This is the first time that this is going to be done for engineers in Dominica so we are definitely looking forward to this event,” she shared.
Laville expressed her hope that the awards ceremony will inspire other engineers to commit to dedicated service in their profession.
