DAIC AGM expected to shape private‑sector positioning ahead of major national developments

The Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) is preparing for an Annual General Meeting expected to help position the private sector to take advantage of emerging national development opportunities, particularly those linked to the construction of Dominica’s international airport. The 2026 AGM will be held on Thursday, April 9, at the Saint Alphonsus Parish Hall beginning at 1:00 p.m.

A central feature of the Open Session will be a keynote address by Samuel Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of the International Airport Development Company (IADC). Johnson will deliver a 45‑minute presentation followed by an interactive question‑and‑answer segment, outlining opportunities for businesses arising from what has been described as the most transformative project in the country’s history.

The session is expected to draw business leaders, policymakers, and other stakeholders seeking insight into how the private sector can contribute to and benefit from Dominica’s broader development agenda. Organizers anticipate that the discussion will support stronger engagement and strategic planning across industries.

Following the Open Session, DAIC members will move into a closed meeting to address statutory matters of the Association.

The DAIC says it looks forward to strong participation from its membership and the wider business community as it continues to serve as the leading voice of the private sector and a key partner in national development.

Founded 50 years ago, the DAIC represents a broad cross‑section of industries. Its offices are located at Unit L3 1&2, Prevost Cinemall, Roseau, and it is a member of the Caribbean Chambers of Commerce (CARICHAM).

International airport development project, marina project, hotels new builds, and more to come.

I hope that the DAIC will elect a strong Executive that has all things passionate about Dominica’s future going forward. Recognizing that Dominica’s future must be a people centered private sector led partnership embraced and propelled by a strong public sector led by strong leadership offered by Prime Minister, Honorable Roosevelt Skerrit…

The Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) should serve as the voice of all private sector stakeholders in industry (agriculture, fisheries, tourism, banking and financial services, medical, telecommunications, information, communication, and technology, manufacturing, construction, transportation – land, sea, air etc) and commerce (retail and wholesale trade, import and export trade)etc.

The DAIC must collaborate with and support the Government’s efforts to grow the economy in order to create a stable, sustainable and resilient climate to benefit It’s membership in particular and the general population at large.

Of critical importance is the continued support for the Citizen By Investment (CBI) program that continues to generate the revenues that has supported major social, economic and infrastructure development projects like the housing revolution, road development and enhancement, agriculture and fisheries, healthcare, education, sports, geothermal energy,

Better late than never. DAIC should have given more support to this project from its inception, rather than when it is more than 50% complete. After all, apart from Dominicans travelling to and through more conveniently, it is the commercial sector who stand to benefit most from this facility especially with regard to tourism, accessibility to international markets and business forums etc. Maybe they should reflect on all the time spent on political platforms deriding the very idea of this project because of their dislike of the person and party delivering it. But (I digress) maybe they can now contribute to it’s completion financially especially to the commercial spaces created for them to utilise at the facility and render more political and emotional support not just to the airport project but other major projects undertaken simultaneously or in the pipeline and stop opposing for opposing sake.
