Leader of the Dominica Labor Party (DLP), Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that Minister for Health, Dr. Kenneth Darroux has returned as a DLP candidate for the upcoming general elections.
He made the announcement during the launch of the candidate for Roseau North, Joseph Issac which took place at Lindo Park in Goodwill on Sunday, June 21st, 2019.
“I want to announce this evening, the return of Darroux to the fray of candidates in the upcoming general elections. Dr. Darroux had initially expressed a desire to step away from elective politics but the call of the people have been overwhelming.”
Skerrit said that the people of the Petite Savanne constituency have said that they are not ready for Darroux to go.
“We have discussed this with sister Marva Williams and we had agreed that the voice of the people must be respected. Accordingly, sister Marva shall suspend her efforts to be elected at this point and Dr Darroux shall, as of tomorrow, reassume the position of candidate in the Petite Savanne consistency,” he stated.
When word surface a little over a month ago that Williams who had been selected to replace Darroux, was being asked to step down to make way for the doctor’s return, some residents of Pichelin took their village street and vociferously protested that move but in the end, Darroux prevailed.
Skerrit said he believes that his party has already won eighteen seats but insisted that he will continuously review the slate of the 2020 candidates until it is as close to perfect as is humanly possible.
Meantime, DLP Candidate for the Petite Savanne consistency, Dr. Kenneth Darroux said it feels good to be back and expressed his love and gratitude to the audience.
“I love you and I missed you. It feels good to be back and this overwhelming reception is a sure sign that you missed me too and I feel honored to be here today with you to witness a launch of a life-long friend, Joseph ‘Ziko’ Issac,”
The health minister also announced that the first phase of the new Dominica China Friendship Hospital, will be opening in late August.
“The emergence of your brand new state of the art hospital, one which the critics referred to as an election gimmick, one which they said would never happen but this is what we are all about, forever seeking ways to enhance the life of our citizens, working tirelessly to better the standard of living of the ordinary man and woman and our effort to date is commendable,” he said. “Your new Dominica China Friendship Hospital is indeed an example of our verve to bring you a modern, affordable health care product and…it brings me great pleasure to announce that from late August, the doors to phase one will be opened to serve you. ”
He explained what the two phases of the hospital will entail.
“Two spanking new buildings providing accident and emergency services and a radiology department, complete with modern state of the art imaging equipment to include a brand new CT scan, digital ultrasound machines, the much talked about High Intensive Focus Ultrasound (HIFU) which is a cutting edge technology to address minimal invasive surgical issues f tumors and for the first time in Dominica’s history, a brand new MRI machine already installed and almost [ready] for use.”
Darroux reassured the public that the government has invested heavily and will continue to invest towards the development of the country’s health sector.

My people this is serious business. While it is “ALLEGED” that it took a cool 1Million )half million less than was requested but $300,000.00 more than was originally offered, we should all reject the rampant, boldface use of cash money to influence our election process. Enough is enough.
Although I have no doubt that Darroux will lost the election, I can’t help but feel sorry for Miss Williams because of the way she was treated. Skerro found her, friended her, used her and finally disgracefully DISCARDED her. MAGWAYSA! I hope the people of Pichlin NEVER forget how their fellow villager was abused by Skerro and his gang who are obsessed with power. They never gave the young lady a decent chance to prove herself. There lies the confusion with the DLP with their do nothing candidate in the Petite Savanne constituency.
The reason Dr. Daroux was replaced was based on “real change”. These were the words of Roosevelt Skerrit. So, one is left to conclude that the change actually wasn’t real… But just an act of desperation given the fact that they would have lost Piette Savanne.
However it is important to note Skerit’s words.. “Accordingly, sister Marva shall suspend her efforts to be elected at this point”… What does he mean …’at this point’.
I believe that Dr. Daroux is a safer bet to win Petite Savanne than Marva, and should the DLP win, he Doc will resign to create a vacancy so a bi-election will be called, then Marva will run, Doc will get to go back to his practice and everyone will be happy… Or so they think.
The constituency is divided, and given the genuiness of Rosie, she will win. Further Doc and DLP can’t bash his family on the platform as it would detrimental to his chances. The must run a clean campaign.
