Security camera helps nab burglar

Security_cameraOne local business man is urging the business community to invest in surveillance cameras since because of his investment in one, he has solved a crime that would have gone unsolved.

Emile Depooter of Depex Color lab, said his Canefield print factory was burglarized almost one week ago and because of his security camera, determination and an EC$1,000 reward, the culprit is now in police custody.

He said about 3 am on Saturday last week, a young man broke into his factory and made good his escape with equipment and goods totaling over EC $20,000.

“The guy actually stayed inside of the place for just about 2 hours going back and forth and apparently he lives right there in Canefeild, so he was taking stuff going drop them off and coming back, I not sure if he had help or whatever. So to make sure that culprit was apprehended we put out his picture we got our IT people on Facebook and also we blasted it on watsap and right away we started getting information,” he said.

Depooter said as soon as they looked at the surveillance cameras the next morning, one of his staff members identified him, as well as the police who came.

He said the cameras are of high quality with night vision so it was able to get a clear picture of him.

“…but he shifted one camera, when he came inside he saw one so he thought there really had one. But we have about 12 cameras when you walk inside there you on camera, all over the place we have cameras, so every step that he made we were looking at him”.

He said they have retrieved almost everything so far.

We have since retrieved 90% of the stuff that he stole the total was a little over EC$ 20,000 of stuff because is equipment like bush cutters, chainsaws,( his farm equipment for Pond case) the head lamps for my vehicle…he also took some cash. One of the girls forgot her bag there on Friday night so she had cash in her bag, he took that also. He took jerseys we had to print for customers, he took flash drives with all of our work on it…we even got back one of the flash drives and he had already put music on it …,” he stated.

He said because of the wealth of information they received, they gave chase and made a citizen’s arrest at about 10 am this morning in New Town.

Depooter said in addition to the police, a number of persons assisted, including Daryl Lewis of Al motors whose business place was also robbed on Tuesday night.

We need some neighbourhood watch Committees in place in Canefield too. It does not have to be publicised, could be clustered and keep these thieves out.

Emile great job. Your cameras worked for u and not only that the corporation of all concerned helped also. Cameras never sleep that’s why I believe in them and that’s why all should invest in this technology . Someone has to make money we should not worry about who is making it but the long term investment you are making to protect valuables that sometimes take a while to replace or can never be replaced . Also the emotional scaring that takes place during such incidents that involve certain crimes. We need to prioritize on what we spend on. A new phones comes out and we are quick to purchase one but we are never quick to protect our families. Emile great job. This is a example of quick justice and response. Keep the comments positive. Check out a reputable installer for good cameras to suit your specific needs. Not all cameras are alike and work alike. Speak to a professional or professional company. Good job Milo. “Whalos” lol. Keep it real this is not a drill …. This is real world!

Well done brother Millo. I wish more people would appreciate that the relatively small investment in surveillance would reap larger benefits. Peace of mind for one. I however wish someone had filmed the arrest of the alleged perpetrator. From what I understand you could have made a fortune from the comical aspect of it. I hope this encourages you to do a little more exercise so next time you won’t wheeze like a buffalo during a lion chase. lol .

That’s great. Good lesson. We see it on TV every day where criminals are caught because they were seen on camera. All major Govervment Institutions should have security cameras. Even Certain streets in the city should have cameras. Bye the way the Police do a great job and are able to solve many crimes in quick time. Remember not all crimes will be solved. Also, we have to give the Police clues and assistance to make crime solving easier.

Excellent and swift apprehension. Thieves, as Satan their evil influencer do not sleep. I am pleased to know that this thief was caught. Businesses and home owners pay heed, learn this lesson and protect your property. Get the cameras rolling especially when you are not present.

I honestly think if we as citizens meet up with these thieves when they come selling stuff for us,then making an arrest won’t be hard,as for me,i don’t buy things black market,so when these thugs show up to me they must come proper to take me with them,i am totally contented with what i have and have not, these guys will get away with things because some of us are to greedy and like nice and Easy things, work for what you want, and what you cannot have leave it, great job me Depooter.

Finally!! some traction is beginning to take hold its more than past the time when we should make the sacrifice ” YES IT Not cheap” but its a necessity and as I said before ready or not I predict by 2020 we will see a wave of security cameras all over the country. The government should work on adopting and passing Laws to deal with this fast approaching problem.
give our Law enforcers the necessary tools to prosecute would be Voler, and others. Suggestion, every person who invest in using cameras, if its determined that such persons can provide evidence they did in fact purchased security cameras to protect their premises should receive duty free in that regard, it will not only benefit the home owner, or the business person, but all Dominicans. “IF You see something”. Say something”

Great stuff!! I commend you guys for work well done!! More of this equipment needs to be installed inside and outside these premises as that will deter many thieves! They need to be deterred by caught once they decide to act illegally……someone says that it was abusive talking of your citizen’s arrest!!!! boss, he is lucky that he did not get ‘bruck up’! tell him think again!!! • Colourblind
      October 11, 2013

Good job Emile. The citizen abuse is the robberies by the thief and those like him who do not want to work and steal from hard working people. We need to have Zero tolerance for thieves. Think of all the victims he has already stolen from and they did not find him or the items.

He is lucky he does not live in the Middle East. It’s not just the stolen items. Thieves take away your sense of security and traumatize you for a long time. A thief is similar to a murderer, because if he is caught in the act, he could kill you to escape.
It’s a pity he has to stay rent free and get free meals in prison compliments our tax money. As part of his punishment, he should be made to parade around town with a sign saying he is a thief. See this sentenced by a Judge. We need to be tough on crime.

I would like to use some derogatory words to you. You big-time fool. Are you one of those thieves or one of his relatives?
Abuse? You have an ignorant and sick mentality.
This man was influenced by Satan and doing his work. I would throw him in prison/detention with no parole until the case is heard and then imprison him for some years. He is a big-time thief who deserves whatever he gets.
The VII – Seventh – Commandment of God: “Thou shalt not steal.”
Leave people’s property alone! Go and work for your livelihood. Conform to the Most Holy Will of God and practice the faith so that God will heal you, strengthen you in body and spirit to always do good; not evil and to steal. Thieves could go to Hell.

Making the picture public is not enough. When they caught him they should give him licks under his foot. The same way people work hard to have stuff, why don’t they find a way to work in order to buy the things they need.

    • Justice and Truth
      October 11, 2013

You must understand that the police cannot be everywhere. People must secure their businesses and homes as best as they possibly could. This is a good example, one to be adopted and practiced by everyone, to deter criminals and to catch them who are a menace to society.

    • October 11, 2013

Hey, the camera is more effective than police. I say all businesses that can afford the maintenance should INVEST in this type or surveillance.

i am glad u were able to retrieve ur stuff.. all business places must invest in cameras cause this robbing thing is getting out of hand now. even workers are at stake cuz u never know when a robber coming in with a gun. so business people and even homes owners let us b wise and use camera in our places

      October 11, 2013

      People must protect their property.
They should even have such a system that as soon as they break and enter, it should strike them down in their face or body so that they cannot get up to perform their thievery act. This would immediately catch them in the act.
The thought is crossing my mind, “some sort of light” to blind them be it temporarily. This would stop them in their track so that they cannot proceed to commit their crime.
