Following a triumphant pageant this year, the Rotaract Club has expressed its satisfaction with the 2024 Carnival Princess Show, hinting that preparation for next year’s edition will commence soon. In January, the annual national pageant premiered an unusual eight–as compared to the normal quota of five to six–contestants, adding merit to an outstanding show.

At the official prize-giving ceremony on Saturday, May 25, member of the Carnival Princess Show Committee within the Rotaract Club, Monique Thomas, highlighted the authenticity of each contestant. She expressed pleasure in witnessing the display of not only beauty but “inner strength and character.”

“They have proven that true beauty encompasses confidence, kindness, and the courage to chase one’s dreams,” Thomas said while congratulating everyone.

Assistant Secretary and Co-Chair of the Carnival Princess Show Committee Chelsea Matthew spoke to DNO about her enthusiasm throughout the preparation for the recent show, despite exceeding the committee’s normal quota. “The girls, their parents, and the committee all came together and made the show what it was. Personally, it was fun working with the girls and committee members and the night of the show was perfect.” However, she discarded the possibility of continuing with an increased number of participants indicating that the committee intends to revert to its regular quota of contestants.

“This year we decided to go the extra mile but that had its challenges so we will be going back to the normal five to six contestants,” Matthew stated.

At the ceremony, awards were given to the 2024 pageant participants in the following areas: Participation, Miss Congeniality, Miss Photogenic, Miss Intelligence, Best Talent, Best Costume, Best in Costume, Best Party Dress, and Best in Party Dress. The prizes featured Bath & Body Works sets, customized tote bags, a boom box speaker, a Polaroid camera, edible treats, gift cards from prominent restaurants and body spas, as well as shopping vouchers and other items donated by sponsors, partners, and members of the Rotaract Club. The awards were presented by 2023 Carnival Princess Najah Georges.

While unforeseen circumstances curtailed the attendance of three participants, the ceremony  hosted Miss Carnival Princess 2024 Mirielle Blanchard, first runner-up Ijnanyah James, second runner-up Deanna Jacob, third runner up Acquiera Benjamin and participant Catalina Bougouneau. In an interview with Dominica News Online, Blanchard revealed her plans to extend her gift of ventriloquism to a ventriloquist club at her school, during her reign.

Regular sponsors and other potential sponsors are encouraged to give support to the 2025 Carnival Princess Show, as preparations to secure sponsorship have started.
