The Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) has publicly challenged Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit’s assertions that the country’s healthcare system is at its best ever. In a statement responding to Skerrit’s recent comments, the DFP directly refuted those claims, highlighting evidence of significant strides made during the 1980s under the leadership of the party’s founder and then-leader, Prime Minister Dame Mary Eugenia Charles.
The statement claims that Dominica’s healthcare during this period was not only recognized as exemplary in the Caribbean but de-centralized, and essentially free and universally accessible, a stark contrast to what it says are the present circumstances under the Skerrit-led Labour administration.
Several key areas from the 1980s are listed as showcasing the effectiveness of the Freedom Party’s healthcare policies, including a near 100% immunization rate, and the eradication of Malaria on the island. In their view, these indicators serve as lasting evidence of a healthcare system that prioritized the health and well-being of Dominicans.
Most notably, the DFP points to the stark contrast of reportedly increasing rates of infant mortality in recent years as “troubling”; a sign of measurable decline in the healthcare system, and a regression from earlier achievements.
Party spokesman minced no words in summarizing: “Roosevelt Skerrit’s claims about today’s health care being “the best we ever had” must be viewed with derision against this historic record.”

But trust me Dominicans were never afraid of going to hospital before because we knew hospital was to get us well . Fact of the matter is, going back to the mid 70’s, under EO LeBlanc/ Patrick John/OJ down to 2004, under Mamo, Edison, Rosie and Pierro our health care and wellness was much better than what we see under Roosevelt Skerrit since he signed that secret MOU with China. Yes, we might have bigger buildings today and more equipment but truth is, the services of back then were much better and more desirable, and better designed to keep Dominicans healthy. At no time from the 70’s to 2004 were Dominicans afraid to go to the hospitals. in fact we were busy to go there for a headache because we all felt they had our welfare in mind. Here we go a handful of ignorant idiots.People have left Dominica for medical treatment overseas and died.People have left overseas for medical treatment in Dominica and survived.People have returned to Dominica on wheelchairs unable to walk and they they are walking.The type and amount of injuries we are having today we did not have in the days of DFP.The quality of bone prostate and cancer doctors in Dominica today we did not have before.I have seen a number of DA Amputee in the USA,some double,I know of a number of people who were advised to go the Caribbean for medical care including Dominica.I remember in New York a lady collapsed and died in a triage because she had no insurance.So you expect the President,King or Prime Minister not to have medical insurance?you must be a Jacka to believe they would not.Obama care saved my A once.A lot of Dominicas who died in America would have survived had they been in Dominica.Every week one Dominican die in America,lack of medical care.

Also how come the main hospital has no helicopter? The PM should buy one using all the money he has got from the sale of passports and citizenship.
