DFP STATEMENT: Dominica in the grips of a decades-worst healthcare crisis under current government

Bernard Hurtault, Political Leader, Dominica Freedom Party

The Dominica Freedom Party (DFP), on behalf of the Dominican people, vehemently insists on an immediate and thorough investigation into the deplorable state of healthcare in Dominica. The current administration is systematically depriving Dominicans of their fundamental human right to health through a perilous combination of financial insolvency, arrogance, indifference, and sheer incompetence. The following alarming statistics unequivocally substantiate the severity of the situation:

Infant mortality in Dominica has surged to a fifty-year high, inflicting immeasurable pain and sorrow upon numerous new mothers. All the strides made in reducing infant mortality since the 1970s have been tragically erased under the governance of the current administration. This alarming statistic not only reflects a distressing level of infant mortality but also stands as a damning indictment of the broader state of the primary healthcare system. The lack of effective nutritional programs, sufficient prenatal care, and early identification of pregnancy risk factors highlights the systemic disarray within the primary healthcare infrastructure.

Equally disconcerting is the alarming surge in cancer cases within our population.

Astonishingly, there has been a glaring lack of investigations into potential triggers behind this surge. The government’s apathy towards understanding and addressing the root causes of the escalating cancer crisis, particularly its impact on young women, is both callous and inexplicable. The absence of such a comprehensive health investigation
compounds the suffering caused by cancer, leading to premature deaths.

In recent days, a critical report highlights an unprecedented shortage of medical supplies, reaching an unimaginable new low. Shockingly, even essential items such as anesthesia and surgical needles, crucial for preventing excruciating pain during surgery, are unavailable due to logistical mismanagement, oversight negligence, and financial difficulties.

Furthermore, the government displays a complete lack of interest in measuring and reporting the health outcomes of the national hospital, hindering accountability. Basic information such as mortality rates compared to global best practices or the frequency of preventable medical errors leading to death remains undisclosed. This significant gap raises speculation that this deliberate withholding of data is an attempt to conceal the dismal performance outcomes of Dominica’s healthcare system.

The breakdown in our health system is not an isolated issue; instead, it symbolizes a broader failure in fundamental governance. Our judicial system permits accused murderers to go free due to delayed and ineffective prosecution. The process of obtaining land titles spans years rather than weeks, and our education system falls short in producing the human capital needed for 21st-century jobs. Meanwhile, our food spoils in refrigerators because the government cannot even keep the lights on.

As well, the government neglects its responsibility to cover the tuition of students studying abroad, resulting in stress and dropouts. Even the honor of hosting a World Cup cricket match is brought to ruin due to financial insolvency and organizational incompetence.

It is now alarmingly clear that this government’s singular, self-serving focus on passport money and votes is leading to the literal demise of many of our citizens. Moreover, when those in power become afflicted with illness, they resort to seeking medical care abroad, driven by sheer dread at the prospect of relying on the healthcare system they have constructed for the rest of us. This sort of callous disregard for our well-being and poor governance in all spheres is morally reprehensible and a total dereliction of duty. As a country we can no longer take this abuse. Death in our land is no longer a metaphor – it is very real now.

You do not know about the US.The opportunities are there but the competition is high. You may have a PhD and not be successful because of the competition. In the USA when the economy is not doing well police, teachers, nurses and firemen are sent home.In Dominica the economy can be bad,no government employees are sent home. The problem with people like you is that.you left Dominica BELIEVING the grass is greener in the US.Now you are stuck in the US with nothing to show, and cannot return to Dominica. You should have gone to the US with a plan it’s obvious you did not.In Dominica the majority of Dominicans OWN their home.in the US most Dominicans rent apartments.I know Dominicans who live in section 8,on food stamps and handout from the church.I know a Dominican who died a double amputee,in a rat, cockroach and bedbug infested apartment in the BRONX.In Dominica,Dominicans do not go through the hustle and stress you go through in the US.Dominicans living in Dominica live much better than you.

Bernard, you are talking the same crap as the so called minister health, and investigation.
    What will be the findings?
The investigation will prove that the government treasury is empty, due to a lack of resources of revenue generation.
Countries are run on revenue collected from its citizens, via payroll deduction know as, pay as you earn income tax.
Revenues are collected from custom tarrifts, sale tax, annual property taxes, licensing fees, etc, etc, etc!
People without jobs can’t pay taxes, a non-industrial country cannot provide jobs for its citizens, hence revenue iñ taxes can’t be collected.
Right now Dominica’s economy is based on the sale of the nation passport, ask how many thousand passport can Roosevelt sell per month to get enough money to pay civil servants, and maintain every government institutions?
The majority of passport money in the billions are in foreign banks, and the pocket of Roosevelt friends.
boy, Roosevelt rosters have come home to roost!

Make it be more exciting for the world to read, people are staving and dying on the streets , no water no nothing whatsoever in Dominica, but one thing I am happy for the Rum shops is doing big business when I am around drinking like a fish.” You bloody idiot get out of here ahole “

Mr. Man Dog, since you believe you are talking in a derogatory way about people dying in the streets becareful what you asks for because I must remind you that people do drop dead in the streets of Dominica.
What’s the difference in finding someone dead in an old motor vehicle parked on the side of the street, añd finding a dead body in the middle of street.
people do die in streets, murdered or from natural causes.

that’s rich of the DFP. lest we forget how we found our selves in this precarious situation. the dlp, dfp and Lauren Bannis made this possible. when money and personal ambition drives us to lie, be disloyal and do things not in the interest of our nation then we are doomed.

Haiti a failed state and we aren’t far behind.

Here in lies the problem. Blind allegiance to a political party like it is your favorite basketball team that plays in another man’s country. Labor is hurting the country. We want something else. If that doesnt work we can always go back to labor or someone else. People like you are the reason why Dominica is not prospering. We have been needing change since long before Maria. You must admit that we have done more bad than good this last few years.

  9. Health Care
    January 15, 2024

It is all well and good that this government has given the people more access to health care without burdensome payments, but what good is it when that access still can’t gain you the true help, medicines, and treatments that is necessary. There are some who say that not having to pay for health care is a good thing, and I concur, but what good is it if you can’t get the treatment and care that is needed. This government must increase its commitment to true health care, and not the cosmetic specious drivel that is currently in place. Better to have medicines and supplies, than a pretty building with no medical supplies.

Why don’t you shut up, government give people what health care without what burdensome payments?
Some of are so damn stupid and ignorant if Roosevelt himself were to tell you don’t believe yourself, because you are believing a lie, you will not open your blind eyes!
My 85 year sister was in the hospital in Domiñica, with COVID-19, and kidney failure.
Every medication they administered to her, I had to pay for it okay!
I would send the money to her daughter who lives in Antigua, whom would send the money to Dominica to her friend to buy the medicine for a pharmacy, and take it to the hospital to treat my sister who has died since.
Right now there is someone I know need kidney transplant, needs to go to Antigua, for treatment, another lady needs surgery on her hip, I have sent money to her twice, not enough.
Roosevelt government refused to give any assistance to that man and woman.
So, why not shut to F up?

Bernard i want to see more traction on the ground from the Freedom Party. You cannot expect people to vote for a party we not seeing, hearing or feeling. Is one thing to have the party but you have to start doing and interacting with the people. We dont even know who the representatives for the constituencies are. You all will try to force them down our throats as you scramble to find whatever whoever you all can get when Skerrit call next election. From all now, find suitable candidates for the constituencies. Have them vetted. maybe even trained in public speaking so when they hit to pulpit they can articulate themselves well. Start work in the communities, you can start with Roseau North. Time for Freedom and other parties to step forward and do. Instead of waiting for an election to then step forward and expect people to consider you when you did nothing for the 5 yrs.

When Dominicans are prepared to die on their feet instead of living on their knees begging Roosevelt for what belongs to them, the conditions with the hospital, economy, sports, infrastructure and taxes will continue to deteriorate.

Individually we can make some impact in some sectors of the national economy, but together we can transform the whole country. Time for Roosevelt to exit politics and allow Dominica to rise from the HELL HOLE he has created for present and future generations of Dominicans.

I the Clown have been to a number of hospitals in New York,I once dated a registered nurse. In New York I have seen Dominicans afflicted with diseases,I have never seen in Dominica.I have seen Dominican amputee in New Your, some double, than in Dominica. There are more poor, drug addicts, drunkards and stressed out Dominicans in the USA than in Dominica.Right now there are hundreds of Dominican-American living in Dominica, who refuse to go back to live in the USA.Dominica is the best place to live. Our health system is not perfect but the best.I remember going to one of the hospitals in the BRONK,the first thing I was asked,do you have insurance? Is a good thing I had a health insurance card given to poor people by President Barack Obama. In Dominica no F++++++ body ask you about insurance, but we have some blue prodigal aholes criticizing the health system. As if when they do they will get into power, crooked traitors.Supported in their stupidness by DNO.

Stop the lies. You don’t even have money to buy bread. You’re broke lie a church rat. I was reliably informed that you live the life of a nomad. That is, moving from one abandoned house to an abandoned basement weekly. The jobless does not have health insurance. You have no employable skills.

This guy is a prodigal Jacka. In the USA the type of equipment and instrument is far superior to that in Dominica. But the health system in Dominica is far better that of a lot of countries. In the USA health depends on how much health insurance you have.In Dominica it is not about money. In the USA nurses do not suture(stitch)in Dominica a nurse is as good as a doctor and will not wait to stitch you broken A.More Dominicans die in hospital in the USA than they do in Dominica.I and hundreds of Dominicans received a medical insurance card from Barack Obama, although it was so,the big money health insurance people has to be attended to FIRST.In Dominica there is no discrimination.Mr,EATO in Dominica hospitals and health centers are run by the government,in the USA most hospitals are privately owned. So in the USA you have to pay or die from lack of medical care. The USA is a money making machine.Medicine at the hospital in Dominica is free, you pay when the medicines are not available.LIAR.

You are living up to your name. You are a clown. You want to compare the health system in Dominica with that of USA? I know you are clowning everyone, RIGHT? There is no way I would leave US and make the decision to have surgery done at she China hospital. If someone decides to go to the US and become a drug addict or alcoholic that’s their choice. The majority of Dominicans living in the USA are doing exceptionally well. The majority have taken the advantage afforded them to go to school and get an education. With a good job comes good health benefits. Cannot say the same for Dominica, not everyone can go to Barbados or Martinique for medical treatment.

“There is no way I would leave US and make the decision to have surgery done at the China hospital.” This shows how successful opposition propaganda has been. If you inform yourself you will find that there are already many Dominicans residing in North America who prefer to visit Dominica for certain medical procedures because the costs are lower and the wait times are shorter. We have issues at the Hospital, but there is a lot of disinformation and mischief-making on the subject.
