Digicel welcomes Cisco, leaders in Information Technology, to Dominica market

Daryl Thomas says business leaders are being brought together to discuss ways to push technology together in Dominica.

Digicel has welcomed Cisco, world-wide leaders in Information Technology (IT), to the Dominica market.

This follows Digicel Business’ achievement of Cisco Gold certification recently.

As a Cisco Gold Certified Partner, Digicel Business has met the requirements for attaining the broadest range of expertise across multiple technologies by achieving Cisco advanced specialisations in the areas of enterprise networks architecture, security architecture, collaboration architecture, data centre architecture, and service provider architecture.

Digicel officials say that in addition, Digicel Business has integrated Cisco Hybrid IT, the resale of cloud and managed services, into its offerings, which ensures high customer satisfaction in collaboration with Cisco.

Head of Business Solutions of Digicel Dominica, Daryl Thomas who was addressing the media at a reception held at the Fort Young Hotel last week, said various business leaders are being brought together to discuss ways to push technology further in Dominica.

“What we are doing here today is actually bringing together various business leaders and IT (Information Technology) Managers, Head Technicians, Head Administrators from all sectors, from health, from education, from finance, the private sector, government…,” he said. “What we are trying to do is to bring them together in one place and discuss how we can push technology further in Dominica using Cisco, the world’s largest technology producer.”

Thomas believes that now is a good time to move forward and to improve technology, “A good time to look at what we have done in the past, what has worked, what hasn’t worked.”

He said Digicel is looking at a way for all the schools to come together where technology is concerned.

“A student can stay all the way in Soufriere and a teacher can stay all the way in Portsmouth and teach that student or an entire class,” Thomas explained.

He continued, “If you look at what happened during the storm we had students from one end of the island trying to get to a school and at another end of the island and they couldn’t get there. So, if we had these things in place they wouldn’t need to get there; they get to the nearest school and as long as communication is up they can learn. They don’t have to stay two weeks at home and not do anything…”

Biblical prophecy in the book of Daniel, that “…knowledge shall be increased,” continues to fulfill:
“But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased” (Daniel 12:4).
