The Dominica Labour Party (DLP) is planning a walk for “peace, progress and prosperity” this weekend.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit while addressing supporters of his party during a campaign rally held in Cochrane on Sunday.
The walk will begin from the Pottersville Savannah and culminate with a youth rally on the Newtown Savannah.
“Elections are on but they [the opposition] do not want to run, but they want to march,” Skerrit said. “They are marching all for the wrong reasons ladies and gentlemen, they are marching so as to have a picture of 300 people walking around Roseau.”
Prime Minister Skerrit continued, “They want to give the world an insight as to what is happening in Dominica, well I will then do this.”
He added, “They march for confusion, violence and disruption, they will march on Thursday, November 17, nomination day is Friday, November 18, and I am announcing tonight that my candidates and I shall have a peaceful walk for peace, progress and prosperity on Saturday19, November from the Pottersville Savannah to Newtown culminating in a massive youth rally on the Newtown playing field.”
He called on his supporters to get their walking shoes ready and join the candidates and leaders of the DLP, “for the mother of all walks.”
The march is expected to begin at 4:00PM.
The Electoral Reform coalition Group, during a press conference held last week, called for a peaceful protest following the announcement of snap elections scheduled for Tuesday, December 6, 2022.
Prime Minister Skerrit argued that the opposition wants the President to roll back the elections, “they want another two years to ready themselves.”
He made it clear that Dominica cannot wait two years to reignite its economy.
“Dominica cannot wait two years to kick-start its geothermal sector,” Skerrit remarked. “Dominica cannot wait two years to accelerate the building of an international airport, Dominica cannot wait two years to relocate residents of the southeastern districts.
He indicated that these problems are current and they need to be acted upon now.
“The Dominica Labour Party has asked for national reset, we shall hit the road in January 2023, re-energized and ready for the challenges that lay ahead,” he noted.
He told voters they should not be distracted by the shenanigans of the opposition forces.
“They want elections put back because they are not ready…,” Skerrit stressed. “They cannot agree among themselves who should lead them.”
Meantime, Interim Leader of the Opposition United Workers Party (UWP), Francisca Joseph called on the “good-thinking Dominicans” to stand for justice.
“We are telling you to stand with us,” she said. “Not United Workers Party, not Freedom Party, not Labour Party, but all good-thinking Dominicans who want to stand for justice, who want to stand for equality, who want to stand for equity we are asking you to stand with us.”
Joseph added, “..and when we call you out we want you to turn out in massive numbers.”
Dominicans are now living under a dictatorship ruled by a dictator for life. Gone are the days when Dominicans picked their leaders now the dictator and his dictators direct their ruling terms and the peoples control over their own money and way of life.The people have no control over their own welfare and future it is dictated by yours truly the glorious self appointed dear leader and minister of finance for life who is a millionaire at the peoples expense by keeping all the peoples money.

While the United Workers Party and their likes, are trying to discourage Dominicans not to participate in this coming election, PM Skerrit has planned another way to show them that the people are with him, and they will put him right back into his seat, as the Prime Minister of Dominica, on December 06, 2022.

Not for the first time I question your motives Roosevelt. if you really wanted to promote peace, progress and prosperity you could have joined Athie Martin’s initiative, which is non-political but invites all Dominicans of all persuasions to exercise there democratic freedoms guaranteed by our constitution as indeed your supporters do also. However, they are not dressed up in party political colours, which would your procession a party-political demonstration, plain and simple. I trust you have notified our chief of police and obtained his approval, being the law-abiding citizen you are. No doubt we will see you heading the procession in person, secured by armed police, just as citizen Martin is.

It’s obvious, from his words one sees that Roosevelt is mostly concerned about the negative public impact that is created by the marches orchestrated by the opposition. You direct!y quote all the hideous and bogus accusations he spews.
This snap election possibly could trigger an upheaval never witnessed before in the country. It could stir raw, unrestrained passion on both sides. Economic and reputational damage to the country could be irreparable. Present and future generations of Dominicans could languish in misery for eons.

DLP and quasi geothermal expert, Vince Henderson, has been trying to establish a geothermal plant in Dominica for more than 10-years. Over $100 million spent without a single KW of energy being generated. No evidence DLP will be able to harness geothermal in the next 2 or 5 years.
3) The ‘other party’ has tried and failed to build an international airport for many years. Give DLP the opportunity to construct the international airport. False. DLP has had the last 23 years to meet that challenge and failed.

Recall that in a neighboring island not too long ago, a certain comrade PM antagonized the people and then decided to walk through a people’s demonstration, ostensibly on his way to parliament. Well, he ended up with a “cool wosh” on his head. But the saddest part was that after being in office for more than 20 years like someone we know, there was no CT scan on his island to do a basic test so he had to be flown to Barbados. The lesson from this narrative is “do not antagonize the people.”

Engaging in histrionics and theatrics in times like these can never be considered as genuine peace building, progress, and prosperity exercises. An important component of genuine peace making is listening and paying attention to one’s accusers or opponents.
