DLP confident of fourth term

DLP Deputy Leader, Ambrose George
DLP Deputy Leader, Ambrose George

While admitting that the Dominica Labor Party ‘is doing very well’ deputy leader, Ambrose George, has said winning a fourth consecutive term is not going to be an easy task for the party.

However he is confident that the party will be victorious when elections are called.

“We are going to ensure that we remain in office,” Ambrose told Kairi FM’s The Heng on Wednesday.

Despite his optimism, Ambrose believes the party faces an up hill battle in its attempts to continue winning the hearts of voters.

“Going for a fourth term is going to be difficult,” he admitted, pointing out voters might have the tendency of thinking “I am almost tired of seeing you.”

He noted that St. Kitts is the only island in the region where a party has been in office for five terms, which is not easy, according to Ambrose.

That is why, he noted, that the DLP will “leave no stone unturned” as it prepares for general elections.

“We are seasoned campaigners,” he boasted. “We have  the machinery….and the Labor Party is a political machine…I mean when we ring the bell, Laborites will come out of everywhere they are.”

He believes the party has the record to show it deserves a fourth term. “The confidence is there, the support for the party is there and therefore we have no fear,” Ambrose, who is also MP for the Roseau South Constituency, stated. “In fact we are very optimistic that the Dominican people will vote for this government because the records are there in every aspect of the development of this country…”

He said the DLP has “achieved a level of stewardship that has surpassed every other government, every other political party in Dominica…”

“I mean, who else?” he asked. “If not Labor, then who?”

A General election is constitutionally due in 2014.

    I know that Skerrit got alot of influence in the Dominica Police Force(henchmen) so I’m sending a clare warning to them, You took a Orth, to uphold and protect The constitution and people of Dominica, not to help keep couple of currupt politians in power, so remember whos side are you on

    having observed politics in Dominica for the last fifteen years why would some Dominicans insist on looking to politicians to better their lives.

    People wake up. Granted Government has its role to provide the enabling environment and capacity building and so on but its time we stop looking to politicians for our salvation and wellbeing.
    We need to be able to get the best education possible and to chart our own course. let government do what it does best and let us take care of our families. Politicians know that the only way they can survive is to ensure that they make the public subservient and dependent on them. Politicians are really looking out for themselves, to better their lives and that of their children. They looking out for number one, so should we.

    Ambrose can you tell us if plane loads of folks from NJ will be heading to La Plaine to vote? If not, then UWP will take La Plaine for sure.

  5. June 23, 2013

    Why are we Dominicans always willing to forgive currupt politians?
    When people vote for you to be their leader, is one of the greates gift anyone could receive and trust, but when your leader abuse that trust, by being involved in curruption, there should be no mercy whatsoever. We should send a clare signal to the currupt politians.
    Development only comes with politians that a honest, have honour,integrity,respect, moral, descency,trustwerdy,visionary and love for their country
    Believe me people, Skerrit and his government has none of these, so if we want Dominica to develop, they godt to go, because all gifts and grants we receive gonna go straight in their pockets, while the magority will be suffering

    If not Labour then who? Give me a break man. Have you forgotten how many years you all have been ruling this country? Are you trying to compare yourselves with the UWP who served four an a half years in Government and performed damn well in that short space of time. That we all know for sure. Under the Freedom Party Dominica made significant progress? How many jobs have you guys created? Can you tell me. Remember you all told the former Government that we cannot eat concrete? This country is extremely hard and frustrating. Poverty is on the rise SIR.

    Currently the BOYs” are in Paris drinking french champagne and wine, on the heads of poor Dominicans.
    What possibly could they think they can achieve in France that Da would gain out of? I think, “Nothing”
    So with that said and all the ills that this weak Gov’t has put our economic situation in, there is no way I will vote for Labor again.
    And my family members have all said that they will not take DLP tickets to come to Da to vote for them.
    “Bye, Bye DLP , you have done enough harm to us.

    Dominicans this Government have done so many things contrary to the Rule of Law and still are confident in winning another Term..what does that say about the people they govern? As if the deplorable State of our major export industry (Agriculture) isn’t enough to tell Dominicans that this Government have been unfocussed for the better part of the three first terms..as if 3 ripe plantains for $5 and 8 grapefruit for $4 isn’t an indication of hyperinflation and a lack of concern for the quality of Life that it’s citizens experience..so many roads built they boast wht does the cost/benefit analysis show? And why (on our way to see the state palace) are we driving on such terrible roads in the City. Will we have to wait to pay off the 27mil before we can see road condition improvement in the City? Where is our money coming from and why is the government raising social security if there is no tax returns on kids? Who will build this country my ppl? Will we now depend on the unguided influx of Haitians and DRepublicans? For the first time in our lives we see Ministers of Government having such a surplus that they can support promiscuous livestyles with no regard for the “Honorable” title that they bear..? How long will Dominicans remain asleep while this country go down the drain?

    June 22, 2013

    POSSIBLE REASONS FOR THE LACK OF DLP’s CONFIDENCE OF A 4th TERM IN OFFICE

    -Widespread corruption by our political directorate and cronies;
    -Continued violation of our laws and constitution;
    -Death of the productive sectors, struggling local private sector and a sluggish economy;
    -Dwindling exports, increasing imports, resulting in a serious trade imbalance;
    -Increasingly uncontrollable national debt without much to show for it;
    -Suffering agricultural and entrepreneurial sectors;
    -Massive employment and getting worse daily;
    -Gloomy future, lack of hope for young people;
    -Rising poverty and crime;
    – Rising cost of living, high utility bills and high cost of fuel;
    – Rapid brain drain as all educated university graduates are leaving and those who stay behind are frustrated into silence;
    -Devastating impact of the, indiscriminate application and inflexible implementation of the government VAT;
    -Lack of and/or improper, inadequate air access to the Island;
    -Poor health sector (including the health of the minister), lack of equipment and medication at the hospitals;
    -Excessive political appointments and the lack of objective, diverse and progressive thoughts in the management of the country’s affairs;
    -Misuse and abuse of state resources
    -The advancement of narrow partisan political agenda over the national agenda;
    -Above all it is worth repeating that government leadership and ministers are continually embroiled in several unnecessary controversies, scandals, allegations of widespread corruption, Bobol, abuses of state resources and abuse of position of power by officials;

    We could go on and on and on… After three terms of creating employment for Chinese nationals and helping the Chinese economy, lack of openness, transparency and accountability in governance and the death of our democracy, the time ought to be drawing nigh for the DLP.

    Change is no longer an option. It is a must- whoever else but not the DLP.

    Politics is cruel in the way people relate to those who are of a different wave length, so many people just try to bring others down,that does not take anyone of us or DOMINICA to a better place,of improved standard of living,reduction in poverty levels or health improvements. Come on People, be real be true and honest.Dominica has accomplished tremendous improvements under this government Roads,Busing school children,Attending to needs of senior citizens,classes for young people to learn skills so they can become self employed, promises to help them set up businesses on completion so they may create jobs. We as concerned Dominicans should take proper note and GIVE JACK HIS JACKET.

      Macaque roads were built , youth skil training started and blossomed under the Freedom Party and into the UWP, assistance for the needy has been around way before this labor party. Is that all you got after 14 years? You need to get real

  18. June 22, 2013

    Honestly I do believe my fellow Dominicans on the day of elections are going to vote against their conscience , against the well-being of their children who’re starving with little to no food to eat , poor health and also a poor economy , but will vote color and party . They will vote a smile and deception as usual . As it is said that the youth are too busy now in technology so they’re blind to reality and
    knowledge of what is going on in their own environment . Sad but true , labour may just sit in the house a fourth time .

    Look old talk! Self Praise is no praise at all! Country is doing very well:
    – on grants, gifts and downturn in the economy.
    -Much more bush and grass can be found all around Dominica
    – zero employment and industries
    – Lots of crime and criminal activities – due to a very poor state of affairs
    – Roseau looks like a cemetery cause there seem to be no life in the city
    – Tourist don’t even care to visit but they visit St Lucia, Barbados and Antigua,
    – A great influx of Haitians in the Market and other nationals becoming citizens just like that, whereas Dominicans find it almost impossible to become citizens in other countries..
    – Petro Caribe reallly brought down the gas price to an all time Low $15dollars plus.
    – Bus Drivers can’t even get a load of passengers cause the people have to much money to spend…
    – Cost of Living is sooo high its ridiculous not bawl under the pressure….
    – Folks are just walking around like -“what shall I do!”
    – Those who are rich are getting richer- more vehicles, houses, land and money-
    – Poor people getting poorer – its like they marry poverty- for better or for worst until death us do part.
    – More illegal activities and of course the white powder and weed never have a dull moment
    – You walk the streets of Roseau- rarely do u find policemen or women on the beat cause the place is so much under control ….. lol
    – Health sector is way below par
    – construction and local jobs for those with dumper trucks- oh dear!
    Oh the dream is over, the minister is right, things are going on to to fine that’s why nothing is happening. with all due respect for you honourable minister, look around, reallly look around and tell the people in their face that things are going on very well! Its silly season so one do expect such stale and tired political rhetoric, but please, oh please don’t you think, Dominicans, deserve to know the truth… If not labour who else? So you take the people so much for granted to the extent that they have no choice? Tail doh waggle dog, dog waggle tail so the people en stupid. If they give you all a fourth term, well well well, they deserve whatever you guys push down their throats……….. Play yaself ma brother! its silly season…….. Oh Please! Point your finger to the achievements for 15 yrs- minus the grants and gifts ….. its nothing actually……Oh yes, doing very well, doing nothing, dats cute! Maybe somebody pay, the honourable minister to talk nice……

I never once vote for this labour government neither will I ever vote them even if they paid me a $1 000 000. Ambrose doesn’t do nothing for kingshill people. See how many years he promise to fix de kingshill savannah and put light on it. That was since 2000 election, up to now. I doesn’t see mr eh in my community. So many promises and none can come to light. This election is more lies to get vote and them labourites going to say labour labour labour and then go home hungry. I personally will vote anybody workers send up against labour and whoever candidate. Skerrit not god and one day his reign will end. History will tell what pm he was. What nonsense are you stating? Dominica today is much better than it was, let us say, 15 years ago after Independence. Well, maybe 20 years ago before Miss Eugenia Charles was Prime Minister.
      She was a well-qualified person for prime minister. Then the majority of D/cans voted her out. After that, there was a 4-year misery in Dominica. You have a better PM. Note what D/ca is like today compared to those days and you are still not satisfied? Some of you do not recognize a good person/PM.
      My dear mother would call people like you, “ungrateful.” Keep this saying in mind, “Gratitude to people is gratitude to God.” Be careful for people like you could bring down the wrath of God upon this country. You may just get what you want and you will suffer for it. Be satisfied!

    You have to read this report very carefully. Nowhere does Mr. George claim that he is confident he will be re-elected. His messsage is that the DLP will be re-elected and I’m sure he will not be sorry to give up the burdensome job as M.P. for Roseau South. He is very close to Roosevelt Skerrit and he should have no difficulty in securing a position as a consultant/special adviser.It is, of course important that they retain the constituency and I’m sure they have a candidate in place to do just that. In fact, by rejecting Mr. George it is easier for the DLP to garner votes for someone new. It is a phychological ploy that invariably works.

    “I mean, who else?” he asked. “If not Labor, then who?”

    I mean as much as I hate to agree with mister, but he may have some truth there.

    While this present government needs to be given a big blow in the next elections, the oppositions have shown them selves incompetent, misguided, irrational, non flexible and unfocused.

    The size of the government way too big for this little economy here (twenty-one seats for such a small country man?). The politicians are not held up to certain standards, and the opposition has too little say in the running of the country. It is like the opposition getting free money for doing nothing.

    And here is my little conspiracy theory. I have a funny feeling that if Skerrit win a major landslide like the last time around, he going to try and combine the office of the PM and the President into one. I do not believe the boy spent all that money building that palace for another man to enjoy. A country can only have one king. Just my two cents….

    And really Dominicans I was amazed that you guys elected Ambrose George in the last elections, if all you elect him again this round, well all you real addicted to shame. Tell the PM don’t disrespect all you integrity and send somebody better than that, man.

In fact, most people outside of Salibury don’t know who is he. With that said, any good leader must listen to his followers. If Mr. Ambrose failed the people, then, he must be replaced, and that goes for other candidates as well. You must interact with the people, hear their cries, alleviate their plight. • Elector
      June 21, 2013

      Go ahead and vote for your tree. All of your problems will be solved. you fail to agree that the other choice in the 2009 general elction, did not have a program for development. Days before the election, the public was told to go on-line to see the developmentr blue-print. That was a fiasco. This should be easily be accepted as a more than clumsy piece of politics. Just trying to decribe the situation as mildliy as I possible can. No wonder you said you would vote a tree instead of Skerrit. You were not convinced then that the other choice was up to the task. Since that time you and them have not articulated a program of development that is different to Skerrit’s plan except to expose what you think are wrong-doings of the government. Have you heard more than what comes out of the talkshows where every caller is treated as a development specialist. An expert in every subject matter. The people of Dominica want to know what is the alternative development program. That program must take into consideration the present WTO realities as far as trading in bananas and agricultural products is ocncern. thisis not the EU and UK marketsof a bygone era where we sold any and everyting that resemble a banana including KoKoy. That development program must take into ocnsideration as well the existing economic and financial crisis now facing the world, particularly our traditional aid donors. That development option must take into consideration as well the factor of economics of scale and our limited pool of expertise in the various fields of profession. The other side must not simply point out Skerrit’s failures and short comings and shy away from getting into the details of what they could do differentLY and what the results will be. Where willth eresults come form. We are smarter than the 1990’s. The Dominican public can evaluate, the Dominican public can assess, the Dominican public is smart. So go ahead and vote for your tree. I suspect you have found great comfort in simply criticizing and cnnot bring yourself to recognizing that a tree will not BRING TO reality the development you dream about. The fundamental question is. What is it that the other side can do to convince me that they mean business. Unfortunately, you have not advanced your view properly. Interestingly, I will vote for Skerrit next time, even with my issues, and you go ahead and vote for your tree. You will still have Skerrit. By voting for a tree too, you would have told the other side that they are no good, cannot do better than Skerrit – you tree voter.

There are no projections as to the cost savings or the revenues to de derived from this project. Like the famous/infamous petro caribe patrol project all we are told is that cost will be lower but no indication is given as to how that will achieved. Mr elector here are a few questions for you.
        (1) are you better off now that 20 years ago?
        (2) who drives the most expensive SUV on the road?
        (3) how do you think you PM house cost and do you think it is $400,000?
        (4) how many Dominican owns business in Roseau as compared to Chinesse?
        (5) Of all the projects going on,how many Dominicans are employed?
        (6)Can you put an asset value of your ministers?
        Image the west coast project- $100,000,000u.s
        40% is labor and all was provided by the chinesse. so therefore $40,000,000 went back to china. of the 60% which include materials and equipment,say 80% was provided to the chinesse and therefore $48,000,000 again went to china. In total $88,000,000 went to china and $12,000,000 in Dominica. Does that make sense to you?

    If they have a system in place to rig the election try must be confident. What s strange is that you are so confident yet you 1) refuse to appear on a debate and (2) afraid to allow voter ID and (3) depending on imported votes to win an election.

    I am not a party follower by any means. But when you consider the record of things this party has accomplished despite the few negatives then one has no option but to keep them in office. The opposition is stale and wasted. They will reverse the good . They have been there already and what have they achieved? Except sell DOMLEC to pay salaries and which is still a grief. Come on man lets be REAL!!

      @rocky raccoon – If you were not in Dominica during 1995 – 2000, then I forgive the ignorance and silliness of your comment.

      If you were in Dominica during 1995 – 2000 but voted Labour and then have with no shame typed the nonsense you did above, then you are a BOLD-FACED HYPOCRITE.

      And to disguise yourself, you start of by saying you’re not a party follower…..Stupppeessss!!!!!

      Wha happen? Dominica was without form and was void before Labour came into power or whaa?

      Ah if not dem then who else? But what utter rubbish is dis……

      When the UWP was in power from 1995 – 2000, their performance record was fantastic. Everyone knows that…even to the extent that in the 2000 elections, the Labour party said to “forget about the UWP’s performance and instead focus on corruption” – a malicious corruption lie developed by the Labour party just to make the UWP look bad since they could not challenge the UWP on any other front.

      13 years later, here we are with bold-faced unashamed corruption going on in government but y’all now reversing all you 2000 election mantra and choosing rather to now say “Ignore corruption and instead focus on perceived performance” eh.

      …smh……..utter disgrace…..

      Rocky, you have to understand, these people have been there for 3 terms that is 12 years, you cannot make that kind of comparison. The UWP, did a lot in 4.5 years so please make another comparison. We shouted corruption when UWP was in office. We were fooled by certain people and now we are ashame because is now we seeing corruption and its just too shameful to talk about it.
      Right now Rocky, I am keeping my mouth shut because if you are not I am very much ashamed to talk.
      Time will tell.

      Dear ROCKY-RACCOON your name spells who you are.
      the same domlec was being sold a few years ago much cheaper and did’nt your Government buy it back. Please make sense of this. Plz let me educate you.
      Do you know why Governments outsource? that is to provide a much efficient and reliable service while cutting down on their recurrent expenditures. there is so much corruption taking place you sit here and say all is right? Do you think that your PM house cost $400,000? If you think it is more who did he get that money?
      Do you own a house and what is it value?
      Secondly, Check this: Ambrose- Brand new Navara, Reggie- Brand new Toyota hilux, Justina- Brand New Suzuki, Peper- Brand new Nissan x-trail so i continue? What do you drive?

    Oh Yes, really and truly the opposition is weak and they are using a very sill strategy to see if they make their way through in office, they were once there and people saw what they did. debts upon debts, and hey which person would ever want to be in a government position getting a comfortable salary and not build a big house and have a speck ride on the road, so i dont see the point of bashing and talking about that, and that’s the only thing the opposition can talk about.

      If you are dissatisfied with what has been done so far and not done, now is the time to address the issue to the government. Do you not have that privilege and recourse to your PM or his deputy? If you ask, they should answer those questions.
      Do not just sit there and complain. It serves no useful purpose. Get going and be an advocate for good and progress, a vocal one, not one of hatred and violence.

        Answer questions? They won’t even answer questions from the opposition, properly fielded in the House of Assembly. Didn’t you hear Skerrit say to his own fellow Dominicans:”Go to hell!
