The Dominica Media and Communications Association (DMCA) Inc. has congratulated the News Editor of state-owned radio station DBS Radio, Curtis Matthew, for being named The Sun Newspaper’s ‘Person of the Year’.
Matthew, who is one of five Honorary Members of the DMCA, has been applauded for maintaining a formidable work ethic, which the DMCA executive encourages its membership to aspire to.
Matthew has dedicated 32 years of service to media practice, having entered into the profession as sports reporter of DBS Radio. He served as the station’s news editor for 18 years.
At this yearโs Independence Day Parade of Uniformed Groups, Matthew was bestowed a Meritorious Service Award.
The Sun says, its editorial, it has named Matthew as its Person of the Year “to garner greater focus on the value of traditional media, such as radio and newspapers, where reporters are focused [on] professionalism and accuracy, in the age of social media and widespread, worldwide attack on truth and the labelling of the traditional press as fake news led by US President Donald Trump.”
The paper goes on to state, “it is therefore clear that Dominica needs to protect and encourage its fledgling press because without the press, democracy is dead.”
Congratulations for what?? This man is nothing close to being a legitimate journalist. .. the man can’t ask Roosevelt questions…. this man just sitting around stupes ……………………..
They all see that pretender from the north getting richer by the day courtesy of Dominicaโs assets and trample on the constitution of the country on an ongoing basis and they say nothing, they remain quiet even though they moan behind close doors. They donโt want to loose his favour, they are afraid! No civil courage in DA anymore apart from a few good man.
Congratulations Curtis
Congratulations to my countryman from the East on these well deserved accolades. A model of hard work, commitment to work and unassuming posture in your personal and professional journey. Part of a very hard working family with siblings blazing their trail in business and sticking-to-it.
Well done my brother!
Vincent, that journey has not been politically fair within the journalistic boundaries. “A model of hard work, commitment to work and unassuming posture in your personal and professional journey.” Journalist within a states broadcasting medium, or any medium for this matter must be professional enough to practice and deliver news to the public at larger that they are well aware, taught, informed, of all aspects of government works and other matters challenged that my be infiltrating that process. The BBC is the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). In Domininca we have DBS, the BBC is not run by British government. The British, like Dominicans, pay their taxes that these two media houses must be fair, honest, highly professional and seen to be executing much news and other matters of concerns to its people.. In the UK this is how the BBC functions. Prime Minister May has no influence. In Dominica, we know that Skerrit has an influence, and therefore staff are locked into fear.
Great job. Keep developing your skills. I hope this is the year that you have the courage to ask some of those questions that you should be asking. The questions that will benefit the population of Dominica. Itโs time for you to come out from hiding behind politics and serve the people of Dominica with the openness and transparency that journalists are entitled and obliged to provide.
Kudos Mr Matthew. You truly are a great person.
Congratulations Curtis. The best journalist in Dominica in my opinion. The man has zero chills in his career. All politics aside, this man deserved his award
Keep it up, Curtis, you cannot ๐ stop the haters. ๐ ๐โ๐ถ kill them with LOVE ๐
Y9u have to bring in your ridiculous “Haters” at this prestigious movement. Stop yo haters nonsense and be courteous at this time of our Jesus Christ who came to look for the poor and the sinners. By your actions You work in which category you fall in. Merry Christmas, and your new years resolution should be “Stop being a Hater and attempt t rise for what is decency, and where it has or is obviously failing talk about it with a high level of decency and personal attacks. Skerrit is not and has not been my favourite as Prime Minister, he i a failure with Bobol activities surrounding him. That I will address aggressively but I will not go at him personally, because he is a Dominican and need decent , professional role model. You all with your nonsense indecent language has hurt Skerrit and got him more deeper into the political abyss. Hon Linton, also deserves not to have people getting at him personally. Hon Linton has vast experience working within the Caribbean on a Radio/media.
In Skerrit Dominica you receive an award when you keep you mouth shut. Curtis is another example of a Skerrit conformist. I wonder how these guys sleep at night??
At least he sleeps more peaceful than you. His mind is at rest where as yours is tormented thinkling of the next evil thing you want to do to the country and SKERRIT.
If you think for one second I would enter into an exchange with somebody like you… think again!
