The Dominica Media and Communications Association (DMCA) has issued a call for political party supporters to respect media professionals on the island.
The DMCA was responding to attacks which it says were made on media personalities via social and other media and which included several derogatory memes and posts and a gay slur being levied at a media host.
The media association has also called on media practitioners to practice discretion and avoid political partisanship on the job as this reflects negatively on the profession.
Below is the full written and audio statement from the DMCA.
“WHO PAYS THE PIPER , usually ” CALLS THE TUNE HE/SHE WANTS PLAYED” what respect these MISCREANTS are seeking ? the last time i checked , Journalism is a science to inform and Educate , Respect comes with it , when impartiality takes hold of the journalist consciousness . Some sit in a News conferences hoping to be identified , only to write favorable comments later on . some time back , it use to be describe as DIS-INFORMATION , today it is termed FAKE NEWS . Don’t get me wrong , there are Journalists who are willing to DIG deep to find whatever they are seeking , in most cases , some are left broken and dis-oriented , because the final publishing is in the hands of the EDITOR , He/She decides what will get printed or not . Speaking TRUTH to Power take a lot of fortitude , it can also cost you your Life .
I heard a recording of the president using language that was very disrespectful, even cursing Matt. Respect is earned. there are no journalist or media professionals In Dominica.
When for Curtis Mathew to ask the real questions to the supremo he soft soft soft but when is Lennox Linton he on fire …pure partisan (vieux labour) no wonder Skerrit had to hand pick him..I dont know since when politicians have to say which journalist can ask them question…boy that country sickening me …
There’s too much diplomacy in confronting the real issues. Take more decisive actions against your members to send a clearer message. Our ‘journalists’ seems too politically involved.
