i think that this is great news . dominica has been placed number nine while other big and more successful caribbean countries were not on the list . most of the other countries on the list have international airports and better air access and even the countries not on the list have better air access and dominica was still able to outshine them …………..hoooray

Why people complaing about Dominica #9 come on people being # 9 is better than not being listed at all.because U.S.V.I , Puerto Rico, Jamacia, Barbados,Aruba, Guadloupe, Grenade, St.Vincent and the list goes on so being #9 on the list is no where bad compare to the other Islands that didnt make the list .Dominica have come a very long way and we will keep on climbling the ladder to development and success. The sky is our limit.

Wishful thinking alone does not help us move forward. DNO published an article 3 days ago titled”Dominica named amongst Must visit Caribbean places in 2015″. That is no surprise really. The Huffington Post of 22 August of last year listed Dominica as number 7 among the least visited countries in the world. Yes people, we have to accept reality, including the Govt. before we can even think of making improvements. Our country deserves better.

Dominicans you all are not easy, don’t get me wrong, being number nine is not the best however did you notice any of the bigger places like trinidad, barbados, jamaica? although we keep crying down our country atleast we are on the list.

Yes Dominica is more beautiful than these islands but the main reason we #9 is because it is easier and cheaper to travel to these places than Dominica. No one wants to waste between 1-2 days of their vacation trying to get to their destination and another 1-2 days trying to get back home. If you look at it it takes almost a week just traveling to and from Dominica. Unless we fix that problem tourist will not come to Dominica.

Unfortunately you are right. A friend sent me an offer from Caribbean Reunion Club in London to fly from London to Antigua for £ 492 (pounds sterling), return for travel through 2015 if you book now. Flights are by no less than British Airways. The best price from London to Dominica (via Antigua, also by BA) is £694 (pounds sterling. That is a staggering £202, or 41% of the 9 hr. flight from London for the 1/2 hr., 100 mile connection to Dominica by LIAT.!!

There’s a song in which the chorus says” 2 out of 3 ain’t bad” 9 out of 10 sure ain’t good enough

Maybe we should ‘wise up’ and consider silence when we have no good to say without thought. The article states “….named among the best romantic Caribbean islands, according to USA TODAY 10 Best”. It is THE 10 BEST! Duh! I believe there are a lot more than 10 Caribbean islands…. and being in the top 10 should be at least heart warming. There must be many factors considered and some may not help us, like easy access, as sensibly mentioned in another comment.

Combine this with Dominica named among “Must Visit Caribbean Places in 2015”. We true Dominicans must be proud! We should surely find some content in ourself if placed 9th in a race of 25 competitors. But alas!! It doesn’t seem so for Like it Is.

Let us truly say it like it is. If we can’t…. Silence Please!

Look at where yall sister island st.lucia is at… #4 and you guys right #9. If you ain’t in the top 5 then normally it doesn’t deserve a mention.

      Trolol and Like it is

Of course #1 would have been the ideal, but I’d rather be #9 of the 10 best in the Caribbean and behind St. Lucia at #4 than not be named at all! It’s about seeing the glass half full rather than half empty! A matter of perspective, so important in both personal and national development!

Trolol, thankfully, it is USA today that determined the standard and decided to give ten a mention.

Some of us are happy with mediocrity, I’m not. I f we have the wisest P.M. in the Caribbean, only first place will suffice.

        January 7, 2015

        PS,
This is not about being happy with mediocrity it is recognising the reality of our topography and natural endowments. We are different. I was actually wondering when someone would name or blame the PM for D/CA not being No. 1. The sun rises and sets by what he does doesn’t it?

I certainly do not want to have such a fixation on any human being for good or for bad! This can’t be healthy!

I’m disappointed that we are ranked behind such soulless places like Curacao and St. Maarten that are built over, have few trees and not enough water. Our island is naturally beautiful so obviously we are doing something wrong and maybe we we should learn from the likes of Gregor Nassief and package and present the whole of Dominica how he does his very romantic and successful Secret Bay. I think there is a lot we can do ourselves to be in first place.

  14. The Facts
    January 5, 2015

This is excellent news. May there not be an influx of those who want to get married outside the Church. God does not recognize such marriages as valid ones. Dominica is still relatively a Christian country. Hopefully when they visit they will have an enjoyable, safe vacation.
